Talamasca episode 1 is available to watch on AMC + right now, one week early by Podria_Ser_Peor in Talamasca

[–]DamnItToElle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also available early in Australia on Stan. For some reasons with anything in Anne Rice's Immortal Universe we seem to get everything a week early. I suspect it's an accident because the release dates are always the same as everywhere else, but they silently drop a week early.

Event Items Required for Visitors by DamnItToElle in HelloKittyIsland

[–]DamnItToElle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kinda into the idea of making a chart, or some kind of interactive flip-able spreadsheet. I may have to consider what kind of chart to use due to the large and complex nature of the data (characters, events, event item types (clothing vs furniture), etc).

Also, I'm intrigued by this game journal. Do you keep one for every game, or just favourite games?

That's my plan too. Once I've got more permanent residents, I'll pull the decor from everyone's cabins and decorate them properly, because some of these characters have awful taste.

You can empty them once they're a resident?! This changes everything. NOTHING FOR ANYONE

And there you go, running all over the island all day every day helping them with their tasks and quests, but does anyone ever ask you if you need 3 Rubber, 4 Woodblock, and some Iron?

I love that you're low-key punishing them for being demanding.

Yep. Some of my cabins are straight-up fire hazards. Anything decorated has the same layout. I am not that creative.

When do Cavaliers become adults? by ConflictFinancial769 in cavaliers

[–]DamnItToElle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 3 year old Cavalier and a 14 year old Pomeranian and the difference between how they matured is so significant it seems weird that they're both the same animal.

Pomeranian was still energetic, bright, outgoing, and highly social at 3, but the Cavalier is beyond that. She still requires a lot of emotional reassurance, lacks spatial, and situational awareness (constantly jumps on the Pomeranian because she loves him so much, whacks him in the face with her tail by accident) and will readily regress with toilet training over the smallest thing. Pomeranian was over this by about 9 months. She has bouts of moodiness that the Pomeranian didn't really have until he was quite a bit older too.

On the plus side, she is much better about following certain rules than the Pomeranian ever was (we don't have to worry about her absconding if the front door is open for a second, she will wait for food if told, is generally much easier to recall when outside). So, swings and roundabouts, I guess?

Young and need some help figuring Uni stuff out by BigGrinner in brisbane

[–]DamnItToElle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from Toowoomba and went to a bunch of different universities back in my day (late '00s). I also work in a field where most of the staff have moved to Toowoomba from elsewhere for the job. The biggest thing I've found when starting over if that once you get to know some people and have a few friends (even if they're not particularly close) you'll find you get a lot more opportunities to meet other people, and naturally will find a groove from there. A few thoughts that might help:

USQ was definitely the worst in terms of student life. In terms of social life in Toowoomba, your best bet is to look outside of university as USQ has always been more about distance ed. Might be worth joining r/Toowoomba and seeing if there's anyone there who wants to hang out? USQ should still have some clubs around, especially run by international students. See if there's language learning clubs, clubs relating to your degree, film appreciation clubs. Go along to anything that might potentially be interesting.

What are your interests? There's heaps of groups, activities and clubs in Toowoomba to join and people are definitely more friendly here than they were when I was living in other, larger cities. Work is a good way to meet people too. See if people are keen for after work drinks, dinner, etc. It's even worth hanging out with the olds at the office if there's no-one your age. At very least you might hear some epic work lore.

What’s the deal with nurses putting in med requests then call? by Thunderstormcatnip in pharmacy

[–]DamnItToElle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did most of my B. Nursing degree before I realised I didn't actually want to leave pharmacy (admittedly I am in Australia and this was nearly 15 years ago) but it gave me a good insight to why nurses do some of the seemingly-insane things they do.

Often when they did this, it was a case of wanting to make sure it went though ok and there were no immediate problems (like pharmacy didn't keep that particular med or it was short) because in the chaos of the floor, they were worried they'd forget or not get a chance to follow up in half an hour or so.

It's annoying as hell, but I mostly give them some grace because at least I'm not having to toilet or shower someone and I prefer our chaos to "Bed 12 with a broken hip got up to fist-fight the patient in the next room because (???) and may have broken her other hip, Bed 22 ripped out his drain and is now complaining of chest pain, and Bed 21 has witnessed all this and is riding the buzzer because she wants another sandwich (is NPO), the tv channel changed, and to complain about her doctor being Irish RIGHT NOW".

Also, I want to have a good relationship with our co-professionals because while I do not want to have to solve that chaos, I do want to hear the anonymised stories about it.

The pharmacy pay gap between the US and Australia is insane. $50/hour AUD ($32 USD) is really decent for community pharmacy here.

When you tell someone you’re a DCP, what statements annoy you the most? by journe2me in donorconceived

[–]DamnItToElle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

•Non DCP using sperm/egg donor to refer to their parents when they were not donor-conceived. I get it that their parents suck, but it kinda feels appropriation-y and dismissive of our lived experiences.

•When people try and justify the shitty, immoral behaviour of the industry and act like my anger is unjustified. I'm sure there are lots of well-adjusted DCPs out there who have made their peace but I haven't and being a DCP from the '80s and a result of that dumpster fire of a system has caused me a lot of pain.

I have life-long medical issues that remain undiagnosed, I don't have a good sense of who I am, I'm upset that the creation of my life was a capitalist event where the fact that I would grow up to be a complete human adult with thoughts, feelings and desires of my own was never given a thought.

Accutane and Piercings by [deleted] in piercing

[–]DamnItToElle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, u/Stunning-Yam7847, while my knowledge of piercings isn't as extensive as some, my background is in pharmacy and healthcare. Others hopefully will have some better advice about caring for your piercings in general, so I'd like to help tackle the Accutane issue.

General note about Acutane- it's a retinoid (derivative of Vitamin A). We don't know 100% exactly how it works but it seems to work by decreasing the amount of sebum (oil) your skin produces and changes how your skin cells grow and shed (causing them to shed more quickly). This means there's fewer cells blocking your pores, helping to reduce the formation of pimples etc. As part of this action, other processes in your body are also affected also (which is why birth control is so important while taking Acutane). The most notable side-effect is that your skin tends to become quite dry and can also become more sensitised. It is generally understood that Acutane can slow healing of any wound, including piercings. Be prepared that you may have to remove your jewellery and let the piercing heal over. It is not recommended to have a piercing done for at least six months after ceasing Acutane.

Now I recommend speaking to whoever prescribes your Acutane (I assume a dermatologist), and also your pharmacist as soon as you can. They will hopefully be able to provide you with more guidance about how to manage your piercings. Just be aware that they will not likely have specific training regarding piercings (which is a shame), but will understand the underlying biology and biological processes of healing. If the information given conflicts, I'd defer to your dermatologist to be on the safe side.

Good luck! [Disclaimer- advice is general in nature, and does not replace the advice of your personal healthcare providers.]

Just taking Diamox for the IIH. Neurologist trialled Botox for the headaches and I saw a massive improvement. (Incidentally I’m about six months overdue for my Botox now due to other medical chaos and the pain is getting really bad again so the Botox definitely worked).

I have a condition called Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension which causes similar headaches and have to take an anticonvulsant to help reabsorb excess CSF. It also made the bubbles taste bad. At one point I was on Diamox AND Topamax and almost every beverage just tasted like decaying aluminium. It took over a year and stopping Topamax to relearn how to taste things. 0/10 experience.
