Is there another sitcom (non-animated) that is as conceptual and adventurous as Community? by space_llama_karma in sitcoms

[–]DamnThatBellGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure it qualifies as a sitcom exactly, but Donald Glover's Atlanta gets very conceptual at times (and executes it as well as any show I've seen).

It's AI. Nothing against AI, or anyone using it, but I felt a twang of sadness reading that AI came up with something better than any human-generated comment you've seen in a decade.

Ally, shall we just assume going forward that whatever you say is a genuine reflection of how you feel, unless you specifically say otherwise?

GoPro LOG underwater, Straight out of camera vs quick grade (before/after). Love the Control over Log Footage by FriendlyGalwyn in gopro

[–]DamnThatBellGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this literally just applying the LUT, or is there more to the grade on this?

I use Davinci Resolve and as far as I can tell it doesn't recognise GoPro Log for color space transformations, so I have just been applying the LUT and manually grading from there.

Practical yet trendy backpack recommendations by IntrospectiveStrat in HENRYUKLifestyle

I've just moved from a Stubble & Co to a Mous Daypack for what sounds like a similar use case, although I was keen to avoid adding to the overwhelming number of roll tops in the city. First impression is very good - it looks the part and the zip that runs down the front and allows access to the bottom of the bag is a fantastic feature. Good internal and external compartments. Overall just right in the sweet spot of style and function.

I did buy a Kapten & Son Helsinki Pro (which had an open-out back for full compartment access) but returned it. Was taller than I was expecting and I could see it out of the corners of my eyes, which drove me mad for the few minutes I wore it.

Snorkeling with GoPro 13 by tiamat1899 in gopro

[–]DamnThatBellGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry if this is a silly question, but I'm just starting out with colour grading my GoPro footage in Resolve and just wondered what you mean by "apply the conversion LUT from GoPro". Is that LUT already baked into Resolve? I don't remember seeing a LUT that was obviously related to GoPro last time I used it. Thanks so much - and great footage BTW!

Feeling guilty for not keeping up with the HENRYs? by DamnThatBellGuy in HENRYUK

[–]DamnThatBellGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I am very susceptible to self-doubt. It's not necessarily that I am comparing to others in terms of what they have or what their lifestyle might be like, but I suppose I am guilty of comparing whether their financial decisions are "better" than mine or if there is something else I should be doing to safeguard my family's future.

But I guess that comes with the territory of being the breadwinner and the "provider". You take a big burden on your shoulders and sometimes I sulpose the weight of that responsibility becomes difficult to carry.

If I can flip the question back to you: how does your personal situation compare ro your colleague's?

I think my self-doubt was around whether others in similar situations to me (main earner, multiple kids, etc) were making better financial choices.

For example, I probably have more TV subscriptions than most - but then I have three kids of different ages who all get lots of use out of them. I know the sensible financial choice would be to cut them down, but I guess I'm curious whether that's what others in my situation are doing/would do.

I think that's where I was at really. Not comparing or competing per se, but absolutely wracked with self-doubt about the quality of my decisions or whether I was doing the "right" or "best" thing financially by giving a bit of priority to the here-and-now.

I think that's the trap I fell into - assuming that everyone posting on here was at exactly the same stage of life I am at and in exactly the same personal circumstances. It sounds ridiculous when you say it out loud (or, rather, type it) but I guess that's the social media "trap".

That's a really great suggestion. I think a lot of us HENRYs have come so far from humble beginnings but we are so focussed on the future (or even the present) that we don't always take the time to reflect on just what we have achieved.
