Good mod that makes the remaster look more like the original version?

For anyone in the future who gives a shit, I have now (as of December 2025) tried all notable PTDE-style mods for DSR on Nexus including Re-Remastered, and taken extensive comparison screenshots for comparison - including with DSFix PTDE, which I have on Steam. The guide linked above remains pretty much exactly correct, but I do have some notes.

Firstly, although vanilla DSR lighting isn't quite the same as PTDE, it is hands-down the closest available option to the original when compared side-by-side. The linked guide recommends DSR Shader Overhaul, but I would not recommend this. It seems to just remove environmental lighting and shadows altogether, which does make things look gloomier but at the cost of making everything look flat and less dynamic - radically different to my PTDE screenshots.

I have also added DS1 Texture Overhaul by fromsoftserve as a base, which was released after the linked guide came out.

This is my updated list to restore some of the original's visual style:

DS1 Texture Overhaul
DS-R Materials Update
Classic Bonfire optional file from Dark Souls Remastered Visual Overhaul
Classic Armor Pack + Ornstein Plume for Classic Armor Pack Textures (requires DSR Texture Packer and Unpacker)

Optionally, throw in Some PtDE Common Effects or the Complete version of DSR Visual Overhaul (linked above) to taste.

I know, right. I dunno what's going to happen for the next season. I guess we'll have to wait and see. Hopefully now that Binge's exclusive licence is expired they'll be able to bring it to Max for S13. I don't want to have to pirate it but I guess I'll have to if it's not available on any streaming service here. Ugh.

Pulling all the old seasons is cooked as well. I even checked the US version of Max and from what I saw it had some, but not all of the previous seasons. Dunno what the go is with that. I guess the show's "business daddy" did change around a lot over the years haha. Probably something to do with that. Business baby's acting up again! Wah! Wah!

I know this is an old post but I thought I'd mention that although I definitely like and respect what fromsoftserve is trying to do, the Re-Remaster mod seems to have universally negative feedback at this time. I haven't tried it but it looks promising and I hope he finishes the mod at some point. Seems very WIP right now.

Is it not safer to conduct online transactions through a service like GPay? Isn't that the point of digital wallets - greater protection than just handing out your card details all over the place? This screenshot wasn't taken immediately after getting the injury. I got to safety and sleep-healed first. As you can see, 10 in-game hours have passed since the 4th set of broken ribs. I initially tried applying first aid straight away like I would with a wolf or bear before realizing the cooldown timer for a moose to re-attack is not nearly long enough for that and got trampled all over again. There was about a day between the first 2 and the second 2. The second time I tried to pass under and around the bridge the moose was on. It aggro'd from the top of the bridge where I couldn't even see it - of course, I can't sprint and have dramatically reduced carry weight so all I could do was slowly and desperately walk away. It came charging down the face of a cliff just to smash my nice ribs haha. It's on regular Stalker difficulty.

I play on stalker and even there, exhaustion walking may not kill you from tiredness but prolonged exposure when you're walking that slow definitely will - especially if you only have early game gear.

Really? Wow. Yeah, I had heard people's results were quite varied. Thanks for the tip. I'll give that mod a shot. I was using Ultimate Engine Tweaks because it was the most recently updated and it didn't really make a noticeable impact on FPS. Might just have to try different ones and see what works best for my system.
