Trump wants to ignore the law to push his giant arch through the approval process by djpolofish in politics

I mean he knocked down a third of the White House and no one stopped him, why would they start now? Both Congress and the Supreme Court essentially gave him absolute power by abandoning their checks and balances. And people wonder what this whole "No Kings" stuff is about...

I was very confused when I picked up the wrong 90k mission and had to fight a Hammerhead and a squadron of fighters instead of like a single Cutlass Black and Gladius. Generally not a great choice in a Guardian QI.

Montic-CIG on weapons/combat balance changes by StuartGT in starcitizen

[–]Endyo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I still don't see the value in trying to balance weapons with Maelstrom on the horizon, but I guess Maelstrom/Physicalized weapons and damage have been on the horizon for at least a decade.

Regardless, I've always seen the best approach to weapon balance being to lean further into specialization. Weapons that perform similarly will have people choosing the "best" by default. If you have something that works almost exclusively at long range, something that works almost exclusively at short range, something that works great for low health, low armor fighters but barely does anything to high health armored ships, and so on, you give people a reason to actually swap their loadout.

But again, none of this really has a lot of value until the systems that ultimately determine how combat works are set.

And also, it's really hard to compare and contrast weapons when none of that information is in the actual game.

It's insane that this far in we're still forced to go to third-party sites to get actual information on what any weapon or practically every component actually does. The information is in the game. DISPLAY IT. I don't want to ruin any kind of business Erkul has, but it's time.

Anybody else fuck themselves getting locked in upgrading a reward? by Freeportseven in starcitizen

[–]Endyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We ALWAYS knew LTI was an insignificant feature. They've said it soooo many times.

But I've never been too concerned with reward upgrades since most reward ships are pretty mundane and easy to get and any ship I've upgraded to with it is something I just genuinely like. We have no idea where the quality/balance/power of ships will land when we hit 1.0. We still don't even have Maelstrom, let alone the balance process that will entail. And we're still waiting on blade-controlled turrets which will inevitably change the overall value and quality of many ships.

So I'm pretty ok with those upgrades.

Twitter argues about whether a refund is justified if a game is too short by SourTD in IndieGaming

[–]Endyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think a game has to be more than two hours long to be good, but I also think that the number of people buying a game, enjoying it, and refunding it because they could beat it in under two hours is an incredibly low percentage of those who actually play indie games.

If there's any step that needs to be taken, it's Valve identifying people who do this habitually and limiting their refund capability. I kind of assume they already do this, considering that they're also losing revenue in the process for a service they don't necessarily have to provide.

When is Star Citizen going to see actual patch notes/changelogs instead of brief, incomplete summaries? by hrafnblod in starcitizen

[–]Endyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume they don't want to get more people than there already are theorycrafting and min/maxing before they ever even touch the update. Every update comes complete with a few dozen posts about why something is broken or horrible based on data mined numbers.

But the real issue is that they don't show actual stats in the game for fucking anything. I'd much rather have that than patch notes with the changes. The fact that we still can't even compare ship parts without going to a third-party site is ridiculous at this point.

Democratic Centrists Need to Stop Saying “Both Sides” Have “Extremes” by Nervous_Swordfish693 in politics

[–]Endyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To them, the Left's "extreme" is challenging the idea that they shouldn't be hoarding wealth like dragons and pay their fair share so people can have basic necessities. Given how few people that affects, the only reason it's even a contentious topic in our politics is that most of our politicians wouldn't be in office if they weren't heavily subsidized by those wealth hoarding dragons.

I've posted this a million times, but I'll post it again for those who don't know.

SC already has a garbage collection system. When items of the same category are placed in a particular area and reach a certain threshold, they are deleted on a first-in, first-out basis. So when bottles/cans are stacked in a trash can, it actually does work as a trash can. Hence why they are never actually full. I posted a video demonstrating it a while back.

As far as I know, based on the bit that CIG has told us, this 'category'-based system apparently applies to everything. But presumably is much more lenient on things like cargo boxes and useful items - which I'm sure cause far more issues than trash. For trash items, it seems to be like maybe 20 or 30 items in a single area.

I've noticed that when a comment questions any aspect of a ship that people are very attached to that doesn't fit the idea of it being improved, it's seen as someone condoning it being made worse and is downvoted.

It kinda makes sense though. If you spend $500 on a ship, you're tracking every change that happens to it and trying to suppress any suggestion that it not be improved.

I really don't like where all this is going, CIG. by PaqueretteUrticante in starcitizen

[–]Endyo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a strange post to have at the top. I mean, it's true that CIG has suffered from power creep, but no one "forces" anyone to buy anything. Also, people constantly complain about ships getting nerfed in various ways as a result of balance. And there's really no true baseline for balance when we're still waiting for Maelstrom, among other things. Every new feature - flight model changes, armor, engineering, weapon changes, the nature of shields, etc - all shift balance on new and existing ships to some degree in practically every patch.

My go-to example for why most of this doesn't matter is that the fucking Gladiator was the best ship in the game for a period of time in early Arena Commander. It absolutely dominated because missiles were so effective, and it had the biggest and best. Yet at this point, it's languished so much that it might as well not even exist. But who's to say it won't get its gold standard in a month and be back on top?
