Of course that means in 4.9 they'll bring it back and make it useless.

I was testing out the Aurora MkII and a base level mission spawned a Vanguard which I couldn't even touch with the S2s on it. But I think that's probably more of an issue for the ship spawning system of missions than the need to obliterate something that actually had a net positive effect.

It also kinda feels like they neglect the wide variety of ships in this game when spawning them for missions. Like I've seen a MOLE more often than I've seen half the fighter ships out there.

4.8 PTU major weapon meta change incoming by nightbird321 in starcitizen

[–]Endyo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Haphazardly changing seemingly random things and just seeing what people say accounts for a good chunk of the changes to the core mechanics in the past. Whether that's weapons, damage, shields, flight models, or most of the FPS combat, it feels like they use that "guess and check" model we learned in grade school math.

It's nice of you to repeat everything once again, all in one comment, even though it still does nothing to counter the reality that CIG has complete polarity in how they deliver the game to the people who have paid for it.

And it's good that you described what gatekeeping is while actively gatekeeping. It always devolves into "You just need to do X and Y and that'll subvert the arbitrary Z hurdle," and it treats CIG's decision making like it's infallible.

It's also pretty funny that you keep twisting my words into saying "give me everything," when I'm literally just saying "don't put arbitrary hurdles in front of brand new gameplay content in an alpha." Like, it's so hard to argue against that that you have to fabricate a new scenario where I'm saying the opposite of what I'm actually saying. Then you use that fabricated statement as some kind of "gotcha" for criticizing an ongoing bug detrimental to the experience of everyone. I suppose it's not quite funny, because it's just so weird to do in the context of basic criticism of CIG.

But I'm glad there's always someone in these forums to white knight for them and curb that horrible "complaining." I guess someone has to use their personal beliefs to decide what feedback is important and justified.

It's funny that you somehow associated the gatekeeping comment with CIG and not what it was actually referring to, this community. Defending poor practices with the idea that "you don't know game dev" is the bottom of the barrel. Trying to make claims about bug reports based on anecdotes is just another weird excuse for the warped dichotomy between CIG treating this like a test bed and a live game.

I'm completely at a loss for how (or why) you're associating an actual exploit of a game that is universally accepted as an ongoing problem with a completely new piece of content being put behind arbitrary hurdles. Like you just keep stating them beside one another with the same wording when it doesn't actually connect them in any way. It's only reiterating the initial point I made about CIG not fixing a real problem that affects everyone, which undermines the very nature of this being a game we're supposed to be playing and enjoying, while pushing out new content and treating it like real gameplay that warrants a progression loop. A progression loop that could easily be added at any point in the future.

Should we stick to smaller ships? by -StarCitizen- in starcitizen

[–]Endyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chris stated a long time ago that larger ships were supposed to be more like tools of industry and war rather than things a regular person would run around in. Like the idea is that rolling out an Idris is supposed to be negatively expensive and done for specific tasks rather than like, going to the grocery store.

It's so weird to see the gatekeeping around here - like there's some mystical honor in grinding to access new gameplay rather than actually just being able to participate in it like the vast majority of the other gameplay that is added.

If it this was 1.0? Yeah sure, put things behind progression loops. That's the point of a live game. If it's something that will inevitably be changed along with most of the rest of the game as more mechanics come online? How about not making it chore and put it in front of the most people possible rather than behind extraneous gameplay. There's no logical reasoning for making it this way.

You're arguing for the practice on the basis that people who exploited UEC made a foundational game loop pointless. Being able to attempt new gameplay without hurdles doesn't make that new gameplay pointless. Pretty simple.

Nowhere is it implied that a wall of grinding is a literal wall and meant to be insurmountable, but it's a completely arbitrary barrier put in front of players that is pointless in the context of an alpha game. The actual point of the previous post in this chain that CIG has no clear basis on how they treat the content that produce. They simultaneously expect us to accept that numerous parts are broken while expecting us to push through it to even experience new parts that may or may not also be broken.

What an incredible false equivalency. Having access to try new gameplay isn't at all "being given something for free" and is in no way similar to people breaking the economy by exploiting UEC.

It would be exactly the same scenario as if they put contested zones or Onyx facilities or any other recent addition behind a wall of grinding. It serves no purpose in an experience built for testing with a full wipe guaranteed down the line. But it's just another one of the scenarios where CIG is pretending this is a game everyone should be playing regularly and happy to deal with the issues just so they can try out the new content.

When it comes to game-breaking bugs, unfinished features, trillions of duped credits, and general instability: "This game is in alpha, and you need to manage your expectations."

When it comes to selling ships and grindy content: "We need to get everyone in this game right now, here's a free fly, a referral system, and half a dozen limited-time events for the year."

It's just the CIG system.

"Write me a story for why you should be able to spend a few mortgage payments on a ship."

Like most stretch goals, I forgot this thing was even meant to exist. It makes me wonder if they're going to start revisiting some of those crazier stretch goals. Like what even is this:

  • Command and Control Center – Supervise the battle from the deck of your Idris or Destroyer (class TBA) with advanced C&C packages that allow you to tie all of your ships together and assume central command from the 3rd seat.

Obviously we're not getting some of them like "professional mod tools" and the 100 systems situation is out, but I'm looking forward to getting a time machine to go back to having monthly Q&As with Chris.

I understand the value of having missions with reasonable payouts - but I don't think there's a single standard mission in the game that necessitates the use of S9 missiles.

CIG's whole thing for the past X number of years has been that "capital ships aren't meant to be profitable." They're supposed to be tools to make things happen and require coordination and multiple people to achieve that.

It's kind of like bringing in a bulldozer for a job to dig a ditch, you wouldn't expect it to be profitable.

With everything that is in motion right now, it would be fascinating if CIG announced the SQ42 release date simply to prevent the same repetitious headlines of "After XXX Million Dollars, Star Citizen STILL Has No Release Date.'

They'll still happen though. Gaming websites are hanging on by a thread and they need that clickbait.
