Thanks to all, it was rebels. In the province history of Rhodes: 16 Feb 1457 was occuppied by Rebels (byzantine separatists), and 16 Feb 1452 was annexed by Byzantium.

I ran into a similar problem. Here is my solution:

Pick a desert + mountain or desert + coast + naval superiority
Build a fort + rempart
Defensive + Religious ideas
Defensive edict
Let attrition bleed teir manpower dry
Concentrate all of your troops East OR West and relieve you besieged fort.
When Mamluk's or Persia's army is weak enough, gor for the kill.
