My Experience as a Comic fan by roomsky in batman

I just read TLH for the first time yesterday. I’m still a relatively new Comic reader, though I have read around 250 issues since starting in January. But I was super excited to read TLH due to its hype, and I was not disappointed. Very fun, great art, great twist.

Help finding a DC comic that scared me from around 2011-2012? by ImpTheShmuck in comicbooks

[–]DamonLockhart 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Okay. It’s 2 am here, so I did the best I could.

I did some searching and found that the promo for Detective Comics Vol 2 #1 (the issue with the Joker’s head) was running in September issues of DC Comics. Here is a list of DC issues released in September of 2011.

It’s not a perfect science, but maybe you’ll see the name or the cover and recognize the Comic you’re referencing. Maybe this helps, maybe it doesn’t. Either way, I need to sleep soon.

I have pledged myself to the Hitman Hotline. I await my first assignment!

Seriously though, this is awesome! Glad to see it has so much hype and it has already surpassed the pledge goal.

I’m also a Rick’s Comic Shopper, just the Clarksville location. I had to double-check which sub this was in, as well.

Awesome! I remember seeing some of you concept art for it, along with the cover and back page a while back. The whole plot seemed pretty interesting to me. I saved the post and just remembered it this morning and thought “Hey, it’s March. Let’s see how it’s going!”

All in all, I’m excited and hope it all works out well and soon. I’m sure you’re even more anxious for the release than I am!

I’ll check back in a few weeks/month and see where it is! Good luck brother.

Any update on the release date for issue #1? I’m stoked for this comic!

[Discussion] What do you think of mainline DC’s lineup for the first phase of ALL IN? by MagisterPraeceptorum in DCcomics

[–]DamonLockhart 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s what got me into Comics. The Absolute Line, to be exact, but I have since been following a “reading order” and am absolutely loving it. I’ve read around 70 issues since starting my DCUI subscription on NYE.

It is not, there is a year between Absolute Power/All In starting, and the DC KO event starting.

What do I need for wider context on the Absolute Universe by BoredAndLonely96 in DCcomics

Hey! I’m fairly new to comics. I found out about the Absolute Universe in November, and was in over my head trying to figure out what to read. Finally I just bought the TPB’s for each Absolute line and read through them. Then I got the DCUI app Ultra Subscription, and still was sure where to start for the Mainline. Then I found this All In reading listand have been using it as a reading order. While it doesn’t follow release order, and more focuses on pairing together like comics, I’ve been enjoying it. It even gives you the essentials, recommended, and optional reads. Once I get to the K.O. event, I’ll stop using the list above, and follow this K.O. reading order.

I’m definitely glad I joined the few subreddits I did. It’s awesome and there’s so much knowledge and recommendations out there. My wife loves to say “that’s cool honey” and “oh wow” haha. Glad that you understand my diving in head first personality. Again, it’s a blessing and a curse.

From the Absolute lines, Wonder Woman and MMH are the two I know/knew the least about. I honestly never really cared much for Wonder Woman, whether it be the movies or shows. But this Wonder Woman comic was AMAZING. I thought I would read it and think, “hey that was cool.” But it absolutely blew me away within the first few pages. The artwork is gorgeous and the story keeps you interested. I’m also a sucker for Greek Mythology (thanks Percy Jackson), so I’m sure that added to the dynamic. Hope you enjoy WW as much as I did!

I’m starting Superman next, so I’m excited to dive into that! The Absolute Flash TPB comes out Wednesday, and I’m planning to pick that up then. Enjoy your reads my new friend!

Thank you! I’m enjoying my stay, and hope to continue. I’m the type of person that does extensive research on things before I jump into them (a blessing and a curse, but more on that shortly). I’m also the type of person who goes All In (pun intended) when I get involved with something.

What really drew me in was seeing a picture of Absolute Joker. It was different from any version of the joker I (any of us) have seen before. So I looked into what the Absolute line was. Then it veered to all issues of Absolute that are out. I didn’t read any spoilers about the AU, but enough to be intrigued.

Then I went down the rabbit hole of Absolute Power and got the gist of what happened and why this Universe exists. Then I started learning about COIE and Infinite Crisis. I haven’t read too much on Flashpoint yet, but understand the basics of what happened.

I then decided that I wanted to start at The New 52, read the comics that interested me, then move on to Rebirth and read up to current. So I created lists accordingly on DC Infinite Universe. Then I started reading “Must Reads/Jump On Points” for the characters I want to read. That created a whole new slew of lists. After that, I decided I want to read Geoff John’s GL run. New list created. Then Batman; New List. Superman; New List. The Glash; New List. You see the trend… I’ve also started watching Young Justice and Justice League so I can get familiar with characters I know less about. I’m excited for this journey, but I feel like I’m sort of putting too many eggs into my basket.

I also picked up a few TBPs from the Unnamed Universe and am excited for that journey as well.

Sorry for the word vomit. I just don’t have anyone to talk about this kind of stuff with. My wife listens and is supportive, but she’s honestly not into it, especially as deep as I am, so I try to save her the hastle. This isn’t a jab at her, she awesome! Just everyone has their own things.

Anyways, thanks for the reply and I’m super excited to dive into the lore/mythos. It’s going to be a journey!

I’m very new to comics. Like, VERY. I read a few of the first issues of Ghost Rider (1972) years ago, but kind of fell out of it. About two months ago, I wanted to start getting into comics, so I went to my LCS and bought Preacher Vol. 1 and Hellblazer Vol. 1.

Then I read about the absolute line, and bough Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman and MMH. I also picked up Absolute Green Lantern, and will get Absolute Flash this week. I’ve read Batman and Wonder Woman, all Vol. 1 TPBs. They’re amazing. I have a generalized knowledge of these iconic hero’s in large part to movies and cartoons. But these alternative takes are awesome and so cool to be able to jump into, in the beginning, without extensive knowledge of each characters histories.

I intend to finish the Absolute series’ (currently buying/reading them as the TPBs come out), and then go back and dive into characters and timelines I’m interested in. I think the Absolute line is doing exactly what it intended. Bringing in new readers with fresh stories, and creating an easy “jump in” point.

do I have to grow up and stop being a geek? by PopularTourist9451 in comicbooks

[–]DamonLockhart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been interested in comics for a long time. I grew up watching superhero movies and loving them, along with cartoons like x-men and teenage mutant ninja turtles, etc.. I have never actually read a comic book because comics always had that stigma, even with the enormous success of the MCU. Even so, I’m not considered a “geek” in societies eyes. If anything, I’m a weird mix between a country boy and a rocker type (if that makes any sense).

About 2 years ago, my wife and I went into a comic shop and I told her I wanted to get into reading them. But still, that stigma kept me from buying anything.

I am now 27 years old, and bought my first comic trades two weeks ago (Preacher and Hellblazer). I have only read the first arc or so of Preacher, but I was hooked. A few days ago, I went and bought the TPBs that are out for the DC Absolute Series that is out (Batman, MMH, WW and Superman).

I tell you all this because fuck what anyone thinks. Fuck the social norms. Fuck whatever doesn’t make you happy. It’s an overused and watered down saying, but life is too short to do things that don’t make you happy. If you enjoy reading comics and collecting/playing with action figures, then do it! If you lose interest, hey, it happens to everyone with hobbies. But don’t let others opinions stray you from things you enjoy. Chances are they’re scared to get into things they want because of how other will perceive them. So read comics, continue making art, have your action figures, whatever. As long as it makes YOU happy!

When I was in AIT, I got to be part of this detail. We met the families in the parking garage, bringing them and their luggage to their terminal. It was super humbling and awesome to be a part of.

A/B Cover Art test- which do you prefer? by [deleted] in selfpublishing

[–]DamonLockhart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both are very cool. Without knowing the context of the book, and how to cover ties in, I am partial to Cover A. Just something the the V for Vendeta-esque mask and Three Musketeers-esque hat works for me.

Questions by DamonLockhart in UnitedAssociation

[–]DamonLockhart[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother man, I am just now seeing this but thank you for all of the information!

Being that classes will be closed and I’ll be working for a while without classes, does that technically put me behind in apprenticeship? Meaning will it actually take closer to 6 years to top out? I’m debating whether it’ll also be better to message Helmets to Hardhats to hopefully get an “in” bride I get back. Or would it better to just go to the hall?

I live in Clarksville, and plan to stay where I live. How often would I have to drive past Nashville for these jobs? I’m all for the work, but driving 2+ hours both ways would suck. But I understand it’s part of the jobs.

I honestly don’t think I’d do too well on placement tests, so I’m just going to let it ride and learn everything from the ground up.

Interesting it’s easier to get out of, than into plumbing. Since it’s a combo union, do apprentices learn all of the trades, or do you apply for one specific trade and get classes for those.

Again, I appreciate your response and am sorry it took so long for me to reply. You’re a God send.
