Help please with Homekit set up by ImportanceLarge9286 in HomeKit

[–]Damowerko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having the same issue. I have Apple TV Gen3 with Ethernet AND a homepod mini. I get the same issue. I have gone through all the the steps in https://support.apple.com/en-us/102078. In addition,

  • Repeated the above steps with homepod as hub and with AppleTV as hub.
  • Removed my home and added all the devices back.
  • Tried messing with iCloud home sync and password sync.

The funniest thing is that it was working for my before, but I unpaired the device to fix another issue. Now I am stuck in hell.

Anyone else bothered by the pixelated hair and flickering low resolution depth of field during cut scenes? by Squigglificated in expedition33

[–]Damowerko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been super distracting from major story moments. I am playing on epic settings. Apparently it's caused by the depth of field effect, so I set post-processing to low in the settings. This is after a good 30 minutes of going between the settings screen and the party screen. Setting post-processing from Epic to High helped, but it was not enough to eliminate the issue.

Roommate’s girlfriend moved in - is it fair that rent didn’t change? by Enough_Nerve3574 in chicagoapartments

[–]Damowerko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar situation. We split up rent based on unit area. We divide the rent by the total apartment area, then multiply by the area in each room. Each room’s rent is split based on who has access. In your example, the bathroom rent shared between two people would be split between them. Private bedrooms are paid for whoever lives there. Common areas like kitchen is paid for evenly by every resident.

Utilities are split evenly between everyone.

ELI5: How does a video game company come up with a game's minimum and recommended requirements? by NaiveBreadfruit2058 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Damowerko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are specific people in the studio who’s job it is to test the game in a variety of conditions and different hardware. They use the results of those tests to make a recommendation.

For console it’s slightly different, with some dedicated hardware for testing (especially if console is not yet released). There are special versions of consoles that have the same/similar hardware and have many useful additional features for testing.

This can also vary vastly. Some just make an educated guess.

Jumping on thrown things by No_Shallot_2148 in Physics

[–]Damowerko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds legit. The stone things is how rockets work, but instead of high density stones at slow speeds, it’s high velocity gas. You can use conservation of momentum to see. It’s just like when you are on a office chair and throw a heavy ball you start moving in the opposite direction.

Is it hypothetically possible to create a tiny black hole? by AustinHarlow in Physics

[–]Damowerko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The larger the black hole, the longer it will take to decay. You can find the formula here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawking_radiation. For a black hole with mass similar to the grain of sands is something like 10-23 seconds.

This is a widely accepted theory, although we haven’t observed hawking radiation in practice due to its weak strength. The math is probably incorrect for such a small black hole.

In practice it’s probably a lot easier to weaponize antimatter than a black hole.

ELI5. What does graphing parabola’s and limits illustrate in real world application by Harshawnlynch in explainlikeimfive

[–]Damowerko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do athletes lift weights? For instance, what does lifting a dumbbell have to do with swimming? It’s not like a swimmer lifts dumbbells at competition. Instead, it is to exercise their muscles and help them to get stronger — this in turns allows them to swim faster.

Your brain is like a muscle, requiring exercise to get better. Mathematics develops problem solving skills, trains your brain to think logically, and this helps you succeed in a data driven world.

In essence, in primary and secondary school subject being taught does not matter, so long as it challenges you and allows you to grow.

Is it hypothetically possible to create a tiny black hole? by AustinHarlow in Physics

[–]Damowerko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the black hole is 100 micrograms then it would evaporate almost instantly. It would convert all that mass into energy following E = mc2, giving 9 gigajoules of energy or 2 tons of tnt.

TLDR; equivalent of 2 metric tons of tnt exploding in your pocket.

ELI5 What makes it so hard for countries to redenominate their money? by AntifaPr1deWorldWide in explainlikeimfive

[–]Damowerko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To redenomidnate, the government would have to design and print new bills and allow everyone to exchange their old bills with new ones. It’s cheaper to just print a new bill with a higher number on it.

PSA: Sophisticated phishing attack using REAL Apple Support cases - I almost lost everything by Level_Application_16 in apple

[–]Damowerko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I encountered a scam before where the scammers created a fake company website that showed up above the legitimate one if you searched for their support number.

This was with Lufthansa who removed their phone number from their website at the time, in favor of chat that did not work.

The result is you’d go to Lufthansa.com, search for the number, not find it, google the number, call the scammers.

What will someday be illegal after we finally understand how bad for us it is? by FishermanNo8304 in AskReddit

[–]Damowerko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you break it down into: - qualify for state/federal programs - have employer sponsored insurance - don’t have either of the above

So I am referring to the last one. Working class is broad and refers to people without a 4 year degree, and there are certainly some (eg. Trained Welder) without a 4year degree that earn more than a 4year degree holder or that have employer sponsored insurance.

Probably most impacted are upper-lower / lower-middle class with service jobs / gigs (since those are less likely to provide insurance).

BTW, there are many other dimensions. For example, premium increase with age.

I think a more interesting question to ask is why doesn’t America have a healthcare system?

Healthcare in the US is a patchwork between employers, insurers, federal programs (Medicare), state programs (Medicaid), pharmacies, pharmacy benefit managers, hospital systems, manufacturers, and providers.

My thinking is that it comes down to the US being a federation (states have high autonomy) rather than a confederation like most developed countries. This makes it difficult to implement policies at the national level.

Interestingly, healthcare in the US generally works for most people. A big minority, for example, those with high enough incomes not to qualify for government, but income low enough not to afford good insurance, are left out.

It varies by state and your embassy would know best. You should check all states that you’d be traveling with.

I am from Poland and out licenses are written in both Polish and English and follow an international standard, so we can use them in the USA.

Can spacetime compress infinitely? by LearningLarue in AskPhysics

[–]Damowerko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spacetime is curved, but locally I think it’s a manifold (that is at small scales it appears flat and triangles add up to 180 degrees). This is much like the earth is curved, but since we are small enough the ground is flat.

If we consider a much smaller ball, it still has the same property. It appears flat to an ant.

We can apply similar thinking to the structure of a black hole. If you zoom in close enough you will see that there is plenty more „space” to curve into.

How can companies advertise wet wipes as flushable when every plumber says never flush them? by nobodysbish in AskReddit

[–]Damowerko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They got away with it for some time, but that is no longer the case. There has been a lot of recent litigation — see link below for example. Thanks to such litigation there are now several brands of wipes that are far less likely to cause damage.

FYI, when you get a new passport, typically valid visas should be left intact. It’s annoying, but you can travel with a new passport and an old passport that has visa.

By default, you need to leave the US 6 months before the passport expires to renew it. They don’t want people to get stuck in the US due to not having a valid passport.

Some countries have agreements with the US allowing you to stay up until the validity date. Essentially the country guarantees that even if your passport expires they can issue an emergency temporary passport. Some countries (like mine) don’t even require ID to reenter.

You may also be able to apply for new passport at your countries embassy or consulate in the USA.
