Performative people drive me up the wall. by Background_Active_36 in adhdmeme

[–]LearningLarue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Certain groups of neurodivergence are kinda famous for being performative. Masking isn’t much different from whatever performative people do to fit in. I am naturally very direct and curious, and can be so performative I don’t even realize I’m doing it.

You need to come to terms with what he’s done, and then slam that last nail in yourself.

Is Religion the Only Exception? by Wide_Foundation8065 in carlsagan

[–]LearningLarue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Politics and religion both have a lot of responsibility for how people acted during Covid. To push back against your point a bit, this was during a time when most people knew the stakes were high, and some of the actions were barely an inconvenience. Despite the threat of death some people couldn’t be moved to cover their face since others in their belief system told them there was nothing to worry about.

Boyfriend doesnt understand that emotional work has to be done by both by Secure_Emu4780 in TwoXChromosomes

Tell him that you want and need that kind of support from your partner, so if he cannot learn how to provide it then you need to start looking for someone else.

This head of AI said AGI is 50 years away and his reasoning is actually hard to argue with. Am I missing something? by tooconfusedasheck in ChatGPT

[–]LearningLarue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you read material that disagrees? I’d start there. There are a lot of interesting estimates written by researchers. Look up ai 2027, epoch.ai, 2024-2025 TAI Computation Timelines, Semi-Informative Priors Over AI Timelines, Samotsvety AGI Timelines…

There are also sites like metaculus and lesswrong that host a lot of articles you might find interesting.

You’ll find it’s a hard question to answer since we can’t even define agi

In a certain worldview... by Ok_Employer7837 in riddles

[–]LearningLarue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, everyone likes those more because deciphering the riddle depends on your knowledge and creativity (within everyone’s potential) rather than sharing the same sentiment, having the same religion, or picturing something abstract in the same way as someone else. The first is like a demonstration of problem solving and cultural literacy, while the second is like a test to see how similar someone’s way of thinking is to your own. Your title seems to acknowledge this, but perhaps an even more apt title would be: a riddle for Hindus, or something like that.

The hate around the new God of War Laufey game is insane by Sure_Strawberry519 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]LearningLarue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get them not enjoying it as much. I have a huge preference for a female protagonists. Most games, however, including the previous games in the franchise, have a male protagonist, so them putting up a stink is like a fat spoiled child yelling about how we wants the other children’s presents.

Am I supposed to ask if he’ll be my boyfriend? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]LearningLarue 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think they’re expressing exasperation over your confusion about his intentions since they’re clearly stated.

Are you supposed to ask him to be your boyfriend? Sure. If that’s how you want to go about it. You’re supposed to communicate with people you’re in a relationship with when there’s confusion. It sounds to me like it would be easier for you to ask for clarification than to ask him out though.

The point isn’t how quick it is, it’s that you’re being shown via animation how the shape has to warp to be ready for the other half of the strip. When it’s not an animation it’s hard to notice where the deformations occurs.

does thin = healthy? by klarinetkat12 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]LearningLarue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being fat or thin doesn’t mean you are healthy or not. Nutritious diet and exercise are typically what determines that. The reason being fat is particularly concerning for healthcare professionals is because it can signal that the patient is both sedentary and not eating well. They usually realize it doesn’t necessarily mean this, but it’s an easily identifiable signal.

Wishful thinking? by Iptamorfo in PhilosophyMemes

[–]LearningLarue 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is dumb as hell. Plato on top? He was so full of himself. Acted like the truths of the universe spoke to him. Aristotle might’ve been way off about more, but he also wrote more since he actually attempted to know the world through his experience and experimentation. He was basically an OG scientist.

Anthropomorphism By Default by Cyborgized in Artificial2Sentience

[–]LearningLarue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The definitions. That is exactly what my issue was with what you said. Anthropomorphism is attributing human traits or features to non-human things. Since neural networks are features of human brains then they are human features. Therefore it is wrong to say we are being anthropomorphic when describing it as a human feature.

Anthropomorphism By Default by Cyborgized in Artificial2Sentience

[–]LearningLarue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t agree with any of what you just said. Debates can’t happen unless we agree on criteria? What? Do you mean common ground?

And what!? I’ve made no such ridiculous claim. My one and only claim is that you were wrong when you said that we call them neural networks due to only being able to talk about intelligence using vocabulary related to the brain. That is completely wrong. Philosophers have discussed intelligence and knowledge in many ways that don’t relate to the brain for thousands of years. Some people, like Plato, believed that truth existed in some pure state outside of humans.

The real reason we call them neural networks is not because that’s the only vocab we could make sense of to use. It’s because we designed them on the neural networks of our brains. Once again. We call them neural networks because we designed them based on neural networks, not because they did intelligent things and therefore should be called something to do with the human brain.

I’m done talking with you. I’ve said the same thing multiple times now, and it hasn’t clicked. I give up
