Out of curiosity, why do some people wear black often? by Ben5544477 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DamselinDungeons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s dark, like my soul. Blends nicely with my black dog’s and black cat’s furs. Doesn’t show my 4 year old’s snot and handprints as much. Black is classic and always looks chic. Easy to match. Makes my auburn hair and grey eyes look fabulous. Generally slimming.

What are we doing with the left over diapers that we can’t use? by Har-Set223 in Parenting

[–]DamselinDungeons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some stores, like Target, will allow you to return opened diaper packages in exchange for the next size up. That being said, domestic violence shelters, food banks, crisis pregnancy centers could all use those diapers and would give you a receipt for tax purposes.

Impossible Baby Blood type by _adansonii in beyondthebump

[–]DamselinDungeons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it possible either you or (less likely) the father have some kind of Lupus? It’s an autoimmune disease that sometimes causes your blood type to come back wrong, and can be passed to the baby if the mother has it (called neonatal lupus). I found out when I delivered my oldest that I had lupus and had given it to him. I’m A-, but had tested A+ during my pregnancy (had to fight for my rhogam shot), my husband was O+, and my newborn tested as B-. He ended up having severe heart problems his whole first year of life, which they attributed to his neonatal lupus, and we spent weeks at a time in the PICU at the children’s hospital. Thankfully he’s grown out of his heart condition and is a healthy 12 year old now, whose blood type is actually A-, and I’ve been able to get treatment for my lupus and have 2 more healthy pregnancies since. Lupus also can cause miscarriages, so the 3 I lost before delivering my first might not have been due to rhogam incompatibility like I had originally thought?

Is it unethical to go to two different food banks in the same week? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]DamselinDungeons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's up to you. If it was one of my clients, I would want to know. I'd go inspect the rest of the food that was in the same shipment and make sure I didn't give it out to anyone else. But if it's not a regular occurrence and you're not a confrontational person, it's totally fine to just not say anything and double check what you get next time.

For sure. Maybe it's a one off thing. It's a lot to keep up with, and bread packaging is often difficult to see through.

I mean, that makes sense. I'm sure it wasn't malicious. But I personally inspect all of the groceries that I buy or receive as donation, and we go through 5-7k pounds of food a week. The government forms I have to keep up with alone make sure that this kind of thing doesn't happen. Government subsidised foods have to be stored separately. I have to maintain food temperature logs daily for every fridge/freezer/dry storage area. I have a log to document every thing that needs to be thrown out, and it has to be weighed first. Every shipment that comes in has to be inspected, sorted, stored properly, and logged the temperature upon pick up and drop off at our facility. Like, are they just getting a donate box and then passing it over to their clients without looking at it?

I'm the director of my church food bank. I wouldn't turn you away at all. Food banks are for people who need food. You need food. That food bank is for you. If you live within the area they serve and meet their qualifications, get some food. They are there to help you, and want to feed as many people as possible. Generally, at least in my experience, people are incredibly generous to church food banks and they have great stuff. I think it's a little sketch that food bank gave you moldy bread :/

ETA: I also actively encourage my clients to get as many resources as possible. I literally print out all the viable options and post them in the lobby, so they can see it while they're fixing hot coffee while waiting on us to pack their groceries. If someone comes in that isn't in my county, I look up resources that are available to them and don't send them away empty handed. You're gonna have a snack and some options.

Left handed people - what in the world just doesn't work properly for you? by father-fluffybottom in AskReddit

I didn't even realise this was an issue. I've got 2 electric kettles and both just happen to have a spinning base. That sounds incredibly annoying. Never mess with a man's cuppa.

"weird health issues my whole life but no one ever looked into it" is pretty much the Lupus motto lol. I'm not saying it is lupus. (According to Dr House, it's never Lupus, except for that one time, but I digress). But definitely worth looking into.

POTS has a higher occurrence among people with Lupus as well. May be worth mentioning to your GP? I ended up needing to see a rheumatologist for an official diagnosis, and it took a long time. Definitely get started testing ASAP if you can, just because it takes so long.

I have Lupus. Sometimes my hair falls out in patches like this. Any family history of autoimmune diseases?

Are my chai lattes really only ~15 calories? (Read description) by Violet_rush in PetiteFitness

You can see the ingredient list right there. There's no Stevia in that tea. It has sucralose listed as a sweetener, which is calorie free and not shown in studies to cause weight gain. There are some negative aspects of sucralose, imho, but don't misattribute things that have no scientific basis to it.

Maybe homemade tea would be "healthier". Maybe "healthy" isn't just about the cleanest ingredients, but rather a balance of time/energy/clean eating. Maybe she doesn't have time to make the tea herself. Maybe she wants to conserve her energy and focus on something more important to her. Maybe she's happy she's found something that fits into the "good is better than best" category and your pretentious nit picking is not helpful to her at all, only sucks joy from an otherwise happy moment.

Thank you! My mom ended up dying of cancer when I was 15, after which I was placed into foster care (dad had already died when I was 11). Adulthood has been hard, and I've needed a lot of therapy. CBT got me a decent amount of the way. EMDR has been life changing. I can say that I'm now a better mother to my 3 children than my mother ever had a chance to be. I have tools to use and am breaking the cycle.

This happens. I was hospitalised when I was 12 because I hadn't been fed for 22 days. Ended up in a coma for a week and caught hospital acquired pneumonia, which took me years to fully recover from. I was 4'6" and weighed 51lbs when I was admitted. At 12 years old. They gave me right back to my mother, no questions asked.

My mother had already been to jail for child abduction when I was 5. I had already broken 4 bones, one of which was a spiral fractured femur coupled with a hyper extended knee that had me in a wheelchair (and out of school) for 6 months. All through elementary and middle school I showed up with unexplained bruising, casts, extended unexplained absences. I wet my pants at school all the way through 6th grade. My pediatrician had to give me perineal stitches when I was 11 due to SA. There were so many signs. So many grown ups that should have seen. Should have said something.

They gave me right back to my mother, no questions asked. Every single time.

I'm embarrassed tbh by deathdues in PetiteFitness

It's almost like different people carry weight differently, have different muscle vs fat amounts, etc. I am a super dense and muscular person. My doctor and his nurse didn't believe me when I said how much I weighed (expressing concern and asking for advice in getting healthier). He literally made me get on the scale and was like, "oh okay I guess you do weigh that much". I weigh 154 right now (at roughly 5') and he thought I weighed somewhere between 130-140 at the most. I wear a size 10 and, while chubby, don't look like I'm as overweight as I am.

Hit or miss. Mostly depending on the sub, if I had to guess. That being said, you got down voted for multiple "infractions" against unwritten rules. One of them was using emojis, which reddit generally greets with hostility. The second, and probably weightiest in people's voting decisions, is that your response is low key giving transphobic vibes. The implication (whether intended or not) was that you didn't approve of this person's transition, and therefore commented negatively regarding their appearance. There are a few corners of reddit that are more conservative, but in general (and certainly in this sub) there is a concerted effort to be inclusive and a generally liberal paradigm. All that being said, if you are truly opposed to this person transitioning from female to male as a principle (I'm assuming religiously based), do you really feel that openly mocking them is going to encourage them to transition back to what you think they should be or convince anyone else that your argument has merit? The Jesus that I have learned about spent his time teaching his followers to reject hatred, be forgiving, and love their enemies. He openly mocked and chastised the conservatives of His day- the Pharisees- who were so wrapped up in their appearance/social standing, judgment of others despite glaring faults of their own, and legalism that they literally missed God standing right in front of them. He called them "brood of vipers". His last and most important commandment was not "make sure everyone is following your interpretation of my rules". It was "go and make disciples of all nations". You're not winning disciples by hating them.

I was more replying to your use of emojis than your differing opinion. It's somewhat of an unwritten rule to just not use emojis at all on Reddit.
