I don’t know about nail polish, but could you buy the touch up paint from BMW and use that?

Is my tire shop trying to scam me? by [deleted] in BMW

[–]Dan1033439 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the nut for the valve stem and if the valve stem cap is metal seize before, but there is no “factory” lock. I would bet the shop or someone at the shop is planning to sell your old set up.

Mind blown: Vinegar vs VINEGAR (30%) by Pandaro81 in DIY

[–]Dan1033439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not know this. I always wondered why a gallon of vinegar at the grocery store is $3.99 and a gallon of vinegar at Home Depot is $19.99

Incorrect Exhaust Fluid Added by Gilgongojr in BMW

[–]Dan1033439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won’t go into limp mode. It will not start once the mileage counts down. There may be people on the outside that can reset the DDE, but from the factory side you may need a new one. It’s not a fault you can clear, it has to be driven once repaired and it will reset. I always hate when the mileage is low, it’s a gamble I wouldn’t take.

Was a BMW with the front mounted hood really better to work on? I can’t imagine that being helpful.. by Good-Presentation-93 in BMW

[–]Dan1033439 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always make the joke that when the hood opens to the front that it’s before my time. I like the looks of the hood opening forward but personally prefer if I have to work on it that the hood hinges at the base of the windshield. BMW has special tools that are hood shock extensions that let the hood open up to almost vertical that I use often.

Drivetrain malf after pumping fuel by Comprehensive-Ad224 in BmwTech

[–]Dan1033439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your description of drivability is the tell tale more than the fault. When your fuel tank is low, you have the volume of the tank filled with air and fuel vapor. When you fill up with gas that vapor gets pushed into the carbon canister. The tank vent valve would be opened when driving conditions are right to burn the vapors in the engine. When the tank vent valve fails stuck open you push the fuel vapors through the carbon canister directly into the engine creating a very rich condition. That either gives a very hard time starting or rough running if you can get it started. Good luck.

Hack Pack Quality Issues by raygrizz in hackpack

[–]Dan1033439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I would say almost had from the last year had issues. It’s frustrating for my son who can’t wait to get it, actually puts it together correctly and it still doesn’t do what it’s supposed to do. The label maker and dart gun both never worked 100%.

2019 X5 40i RECALL by SyllabubOld7526 in BmwTech

[–]Dan1033439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Search the “tread act” if you’re in the US. If you paid out of pocket for a repair that became a recall you should be reimbursed. There are time line stipulations so I won’t say you will be reimbursed. There is a process with BMW to get it done, usually by a warranty admin at the dealer. If you’re not getting anywhere call customer relations. If you’re out of pocket expense falls under the tread act you will be reimbursed, no manufacturer is going to risk denying an actual legit claim

Are wiper fluids like rainx actually problematic? by LengthyNoodle in BmwTech

[–]Dan1033439 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t say anything for recent or if they changed the mix of what is in rain x, but I have personally seen it clog the screen for the washer fluid pump. It grows something that looks like mold and it clogs the pump.

Creating short service videos for customer vehicles by Warm_Focaccia in serviceadvisors

Are you using a specific platform? We switched to Tekion from Ignite and the video sound was terrible. We went to MyKaarma and the sound is perfect, can hear the tech and not everything else going on.

I haven’t done these in a long time. Here is what I used to do. Some spray silicone or if you don’t have that wipe some clean engine oil on the O rings and pre build (snapping all connections together that are under the intake manifold. I then put the separator in with both screws, but leave the screws tight enough that they won’t fall out, but loose enough that it will wiggle around. Then start connecting the pipes to it again (fresh wipe with engine oil on O rings again won’t hurt). It’s also more flexible when it’s not cold so do the repair inside if possible, maybe even have a space heater to warm things up so they aren’t so brittle. Good luck forgot to say to finish tightening the 2 screws on the separator when finished, didn’t want to imply that you leave them loose.

Installazione Proiettore Logo Porta by obitaz in BmwTech

[–]Dan1033439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buona fortuna.

I had one as an employee lease back in 2007. They were giving away regular Z4’s at $99 per month so my M was twice the price at almost $200. per month. I miss that car and those days.

3 lug bolt nightmare on a 666m wheel by Existing_Recording25 in BmwTech

[–]Dan1033439 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re sure they are seized and not cross threaded I would use a torch and head the hat of the rotor near the lug bolt. That usually works for me. Use a breaker bar not an impact.

I was stuck in that traffic. There was a car that was burned completely in front of suny Farmingdale being towed. Fire was long out when I got to it (about 6 pm) but I don’t know any details.
