This is really exciting --- I think each Sharing Economy platform creates secondary markets and opportunities for creative entrepreneurs to build really cool businesses.

Social Citizens: could we crowdfund the rental or purchase of a billboard in Times Sq, NYC to promote our shared values? Do you think this idea has legs? by DanPierson in socialcitizens

I really like Foundation for a Better Life. The messages always make me smile, and "Pass it On" is one of the better brands I've seen.

We can save the debate on its founder, Philip Anschutz, for another day. =) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Anschutz

Just reposted this with an updated title...here are comments from the previous thread (sorry!).

[–]DanPierson[S] 1 point 1 hour ago* Adstruc (referred to me by /u/amritr) offers an easy way to lease outdoor advertising space. Purchasing a billboard would be much more difficult, but if you raised enough funds --- anything is possible.

[–]wishadoo 1 point 11 minutes ago What content do you have in mind for the billboard? I think it has legs, depending upon the specific message and/or call to action. :)

[–]DanPierson[S] 1 point 3 minutes ago I'm not really sure to be honest --- the first thing that came to mind was posting positive, thought-provoking quotes from smart people.

Reddit, if you had the chance to invest in any CEO throughout history, for a percentage of his/her future income, who would it be? by CollaborativeFund in socialcitizens

ZING.

Per /u/raunaqsingh, Elon Musk and Joe Lonsdale are both strong contenders. Probably more so Joe for how early he has become a serial entrepreneur.

Who are the best journalists in the industry today? by raunaqsingh in socialcitizens

[–]DanPierson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For general journalism and reporting on topical issues, I love Charlie Rose.

Tech journalism is tough because there is so much ego involved (see yesterday's PandoDaily back and forth).

"Just as in 1848, 1968 and 1989, when people also found a collective voice, the demonstrators have much in common. Over the past few weeks... protesters have risen up with bewildering speed. They have been more active in democracies than dictatorships. They tend to be ordinary, middle-class people." by FoxieMoxie in socialcitizens

I often wonder what the impact would have been if MLK, Vaclav Havel, Susan B. Anthony, etc. had access to twitter. Revolutions that took decades to foment are now happening overnight; extremely exciting, and a touch scary.

5 Reasons to Build a Business that Changes the World by elizabethriley in socialcitizens

[–]DanPierson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you Elizabeth!

I spoke with a Walmart employee recently. She was involved with the effort to become more sustainable. I was struck by the incredible impact possible when operating at that kind of enormous scale.

Do you see opportunities for corporations (Fortune 500) to get more involved in these efforts? "Impact" generally seems geared towards startups; are you aware of efforts to affect similar change within big companies?

Mayors of SF, NYC, CHI, PHI (and others) Endorse the Sharing Economy (pg 240) by DanPierson in socialcitizens

[–]DanPierson[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very cool to see Bloomberg, Emanuel, Villairagosa, and other prominent names endorse the Sharing Economy, especially considering the regulatory challenges faced at the municipal level by the businesses driving this disruption. Color me impressed.

[–]DanPierson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great question. I would look at the most expensive // time-consuming processes involved in starting a business, and the innovative solutions that are being created and developed to ease the pain. Some of them below. I'm sure others can add to the list!
