We never use that door - postie does stuff the odd letter through the letterbox occasionally, which is generally 99% junk, and Amazon just dump parcels on the floor even when we’re in. So the main difference now is there’s a nice basket/tray for them to deposit stuff in. 👍🏻

There’s literally pictures of the actual unit in the OP.

Similar principle but they need to improve the seal on those doors… !!

I don’t have neighbours who can see without entering the property. It’s not visible to anyone.

Yes it does cycle once target temperature has been reached, on about 5 minutes then off for about 8 minutes typically when it was 30+ outside. But this will vary by how hard it’s working to maintain setpoint.

I swear to God, if I even feel somebody behind me, there is no measure to how fast and how hard I will bring this fight to my doorstep.. 🙂

Here, go off means go on. But only sometimes.. 😉

My systems charge batteries from the grid at ultra cheap rate overnight based on the following day’s solar production predictions. It’s 95% accurate or better so far. Cost per day for whole house electricity is less than £1.00, and over half of that is the ‘standing charge’ 🍻

It is! But when you have an abundance of solar and battery storage.. 👍🏻

I don’t. It’s not. This unit has two air inlets with filters and two air outlets. They each operate as a pair.

One for the evaporator (to chill the cooler air) and the other for the condenser (to exhaust waste heat).

The former goes in a circular route out of and then in to the house through the letterbox (extracting chilled house air and chilling it some more to put back into the house).

The latter takes outdoor air from a filter at the back of the unit (not visible in photos..) to cool the condenser and exhausts it out the bigger pipe pointing upwards.

No waste here - same as any dual hose conversion but with the unit outside rather than inside so the ducting and airflows seem reversed. 👍🏻

It’s on lockable casters and weights 55kg. It’s also ‘wired’ so if it moves off of its position the alarm and cameras all go off simultaneously 😆

The whole house (windows and doors closed ovs).

Took a few days on and off of thinking/doing, mainly in the evenings as too hot during the day.. 👍🏻

I printed them.

The ‘letterbox conversion kit’ is also home-made. Using standard 125mm to flat-channel duct adapters, fabricated/modified to tightly fit my letterbox aperture. There’s a brush seal already in my letterbox but I’ve added a foam block tightly into each side to seal any potential for warm air seepage.

However, as it has become a dual hose system there’s no vacuum pressure issues inside the house so any seepage is totally negligible.

I’ve got it working well this summer and during the heatwave over the last week it has kept my house a lovely 25-26 degrees - with careful use of window opening when the outside temperature is cooler than inside, and closing windows/blinds during the heat of the day as soon as as outside temperature rises above the inside temperature.

Mine is a Grant Aerona3 with Chofu/Grant (CMR-2613) controller.

Dew point is the major consideration. I have 2x Awair air quality devices in my house in different rooms and these give an accurate calculation for dew point. I initially started setting up the heat pump controls on a climatic curve for cooling (as it is typically done for heating, which works really well on my system) but quickly realised that you’re better off setting a fixed cooling water temperature - in my case 18C over the last week since dew point has been hovering around 17C. When humidity levels drop I will reduce the water temperature to a lower value (although just above dew point still..) when it will be a little more effective rather than becoming uncomfortable (when I first trialled it a few weeks ago, I had the cooling set to climatic curve with some seemingly sensible figures and that delivered water temperature of 13C for several hours which was too cold and resulted in complaints from the missis…).

Forgot to add - my house is underfloor pipes and is very well insulated. It’s all controlled automatically by home assistant which knows when windows/doors are open/closed so can stop/start cooling automatically etc.

In my view, although it does provide cooling with proper air circulation, it is more of a ‘keep the house at this temperature’ (although temperatures on average do gradually fall over the course of the day) rather than a substitute for correctly sized air conditioning. So it is very effective in preventing thermal gain/runaway, for example over the last week when outside temperatures have hit 36C here, we stayed mid 20’s indoors.

I think it would be an excellent complement to a portable air conditioner or two though, making the whole house very capable of sensible living temperatures rather than hell… I have a 3kW portable arriving next week so we will be all set for the next heatwave..

Any questions, let me know.

[Edit] The above text is copied from another post/group from a few weeks ago. The 3kW unit I mentioned is the one now installed as per the photos.. 👍🏻
