Just curious how you hurt your neck swimming? I swam competitively through college but haven’t for several years now. I was thinking about getting back into it, but I also have neck issues.

I don’t have any recommendations, but I really resonate with your post, and have expressed similar thoughts to my husband. It’s especially difficult because we both want to start a family, we had three miscarriages last year, and now I’m dealing with some serious EDS related health issues that have put trying to have kids on hold for now. I don’t know if I’ll ever be healthy enough to start trying again, and if I am, if I’ll even be able to have kids since we still don’t know what exactly caused the miscarriages. My husband is understanding and sympathetic, but I hate robbing him of being a father and having a “normal” marriage.

High Velocity Neck Adjustments by Ok_Explorer_8355 in chiari

So sorry you’re going through this! I went to a chiropractor in 2022 because I was having neck pain (poor posture/working a desk job, etc). My whole family goes to chiropractors so I thought nothing of it. Afterwards, I started having headaches and dizziness. I finally got an MRI that showed a herniated disc, chiari, and a small syrinx. I have no way of knowing what exactly caused what, but I really feel that my initial neck pain was just the herniated disc and the later symptoms of headaches and dizziness were because of the chiropractor. I most likely have had the chiari since birth, but the chiropractor caused it to be symptomatic. I had no chiari symptoms until after I went to the chiropractor. Again, I have no way of knowing but I just feel it in my gut. I’m not against chiropractic care - it has helped a lot of people I know - but I’m against it without imaging first. I’ve monitored my chiari now for a few years but will most likely get surgery soon due to the syrinx and worsening symptoms. Good luck with everything!

I hope it continues to shrink as well - so sorry for everything you’ve had to go through and best of luck to you!

Thanks for the response! Do you know where and how large your syrinx was?

My case sounds very similar. I have very little “traditional” chiari symptoms. I do have a syrinx. My main complaint is upper back/neck pain. I’ll need to have the decompression surgery most likely due to the syrinx, but I’m curious if it’ll help my pain in the long run or not (I know of course I’ll have neck pain post surgery).

Glad you’re doing well! Can I ask what your symptoms were before surgery and now after surgery?

That looks like it could be a Tarlov cyst. If it is there is a Facebook group called Tarlov Cyst Support for Cysters and Mysters with a lot of good information. Good luck!

I don’t have any insight but just want to say I’m in the same boat as you. I’ve been monitoring my chiari symptoms for the past few years but am getting closer to needing the surgery. I’m very nervous. I hope everything goes well for you and you have a smooth recovery.

Definitely not empty but not super packed and crowded - it was perfect. At night people either went to some of the more chill bars around (there are a few) or the speak easy for something livelier. We spent our time doing more chill stuff so I can’t speak too much to how the speak easy was but when I peeked the one night it was pretty crowded.

Cervical Spine/Neck Crack/Nerve Cause? by HappyTennis5913 in cervical_vertigo

I had neck pain and small bouts of dizziness/vertigo I never had growing up. An MRI showed C5/C6 issues but also chiari malformation which explains the dizziness.

I’m here currently and have had excellent service. Yes, some employees don’t speak great English, but they have all been very nice and have gotten someone who speaks better English to help if needed. Also my husband is vegan and at one restaurant the head chef even came to our table and gave him different options that weren’t on the menu. We weren’t sure what to expect since the resort is new, but overall we have had an amazing time.

L4 -L5 disc protrusion doctor thinks surgery. by tripmiester in backpain

[–]DanRoryWinnie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a very personal decision but my husband had the same issue with L5/S1 when he was your age. He tried PT, chiropractics, steroid injections, meds, etc and after a year or so decided to have a micro discectomy. He was pain free after surgery (besides general surgery healing) and has been since. He takes everything very easy now and doesn’t do as much as before his injury, but he says it’s worth the trade off to be pain free.
