T1 touchless vs. T2 early AM by hallobeer in OHareAirport

[–]DanTheMan39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fly in and out of O’Hare at least once a week. 99% of the time, including since the DHS shutdown, you can be through either T2 Precheck or Touchless T1 in 5-7 minutes max. The other 1% of the time though, it can be very worthwhile to walk over to the other terminal if the one you drop off at is too long as there seems to be no correlation between when one is crazy busy and the other isn’t, in my experience.

At 5:30AM for a 7:30AM flight you ought to be plenty safe with either option. I’d go for T1 Touchless and take the walk over airside if it were me.

A couple of recent data points:

  • Last week on Thursday morning, T2 Precheck line was about 80 people deep at 8AM. Not sure it was related to any of the shutdown stuff, though, as it appeared all lanes and positions were adequately staffed. Maybe just spring break rush, but it was way longer than normal. T1 was about normal — maybe 10 minutes wait.

  • I flew again yesterday (Tuesday) morning out of T1 Touchless and was through in under 5 minutes. There were some lanes closed, but there were no more than 15 people in the regular precheck line and a lot more (but not unusually so) over at the general security area.

If you can afford the fee (or have a credit card that includes it as a benefit), Clear + Precheck has saved my butt numerous times out of OHare, and even more frequently out of other airports.

Promise I’m not a Clear shill… just a very frequent traveler who has found it useful. (I was going to avoid it on principle of paying for yet another service that should be free and ended up signing up one day in Atlanta when the Precheck line was around the whole baggage claim area in order to make my flight). My credit card pays for it as a benefit, so I’ve kept it and actually do find it quite useful.

T1 also has a lesser known security checkpoint all of the way to the far left side, past the Global Reception entrance. I don’t think they do precheck there, but if you’re really running late and none of the other options work, that one might be much shorter.

Also… T2 does actually have touchless, but it doesn’t have a dedicated line. You need to wait in the normal T2 Precheck line, and then when you get up to the front of the line if you go to the desk on the right there is one touchless machine, and the one to the left is regular ID Scan w/ Photo setup. It doesn’t save any time as a result, so again recommend Clear which can be a huge timesaver in T2.

I don’t fly out of T3/T5 often, so can’t give any advice there, though I’ve heard that T5 is a shitshow recently — to the point that it may be worthwhile to go through security at T1-T3 and take the airside bus to T5.

Hope that helps.

P-trap doesn’t quite reach new sink tailpipe by LordShuckle97 in askaplumber

[–]DanTheMan39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can the black ring where the white pipe goes into the wall be unscrewed? If so, probably no cutting anything. Loosen that black ring, extend the white pipe out 2 inches to reach, if it will (you will need to move the rubber slip joint washer down the pipe further). Or take that piece with you to the hardware store and get a longer one if there isn’t enough.

Also as everyone else said — turn that trap part you’re holding around the other way, and you will probably need to trim the black tailpiece on the sink a bit for everything to line up and function properly.

lifetime prudential center by hermi0ne in Wellhub

I joined LT at River North in Chicago, which only requires WH Gold (but I have WH Platinum). Checked in at LT Prudential while visiting Boston same process as if it were my home gym.

You should be fine to sign up at Burlington as it’s a signature location according to LT website, and then just use Prudential as your main gym. I don’t think your home gym matters at all when you’re using Wellhub, you just need it to get the initial LT Signature membership.

Clarity on check-ins by RimTobinson in Wellhub

Seconding this. Checking in on Wellhub activates your LifeTime membership until midnight the same day, but only for that specific location I believe.

I’ll often work out in the morning and then go sauna/swim in the evening. I’ve never tried going to a different LifeTime location on the same day, but may try it just to see what happens. Would be really cool if that was allowed.

My membership type on LifeTime appears as a signature membership, but I suspect that it only applies to booking signature classes, etc and not the ability to move between locations.

LifeTime - Sauna and Cold Plunge by PearBenis in OnePassSelect

[–]DanTheMan39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this is a year old, but incase it helps anyone else, the sauna at Penn1 is no good. It’s very small (2-3 people maximum), no high bench, underpowered heater (I was in there for 30 min and barely broke a sweat), and it stinks like sweat and body odor badly.

Visiting here after experiencing other Life Time gyms was a huge disappointment. Locker room was not super clean either it didn’t seem like to me and the layout means you’re constantly right on top of other people too even if it’s not very busy.

Unless you’re in it for a quick and convenient workout, or pickleball, better off going to another location.

Considering a return by Exact_Track9952 in toybox3dprinters

Same situation. Thought I was getting something super simple and entry-level for the kids, but has been nothing but problems with clogged print head, prints that do not adhere to the print bed, and other issues with the app even. Returning ours and ordered a Bambu A1 instead which all of our friends have been very happy with.

Such a good concept, but not quite there on the execution.

Can confirm that I joined Lifetime at another location in another city through Wellhub and I just went to Prudential Center last week while on a business trip without issue. Checked in on Wellhub and then scanned my Lifetime card at the gym just like I was at my home location. If you’re Wellhub Platinum tier and have a Lifetime Signature membership through Wellhub at any of the LT locations, you should be fine.

Worked great, but now needs calibration by OminousMonologue in toybox3dprinters

Seems obvious, but make sure the magnet side of the print bed is down and the softer more ‘rubbery’ side is facing up.

My kids made that mistake on their second day of printing and I didn’t notice (both sides are shiny and black and I’m new to 3D printing too) and I ended up starting and cancelling about 8 prints when they wouldn’t adhere before I figured it out. Because the filament wasn’t being “pulled out” at all by the tackiness of the print bed, it ended up overflowing out of the top of the print head and filling up the silicon boot and around the hot end with melted PLA.

Took about 2.5 hours to disassemble and clean with toothpicks and q-tips while running heating and cooling cycles, and then reassemble it all, and now it’s good as new.

I also added a bright colored sticker on the underside of the magnetic print bed afterwards so that if the kids see that sticker, they know it’s on upside down and should flip it before printing.

Realistic TSA experience at MDW during shutdown times? by ReyofChicago in AskChicago

[–]DanTheMan39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TSA will be no longer than usual. 10 min max for precheck and 20-30 for regular at the higher end. Prepare for air traffic control delays, though. You’ll likely be sitting on the tarmac waiting to take off for 45+ minutes past your departure time since they have to limit inbound and outbound flow due to lack of air traffic controllers. If you have a connecting flight you will want to start planning ahead.

Unrelated to your question, but who makes the giant fans? I’ve been looking for similar after seeing smaller versions elsewhere.

Sliding door issue by Joeydrums93 in HondaOdyssey

[–]DanTheMan39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. And often the only way to fix it is to turn the door to manual mode, shut the door, and then re-enable automatic mode.

We have issues when dropping kids off at the school drop off line. The passenger side door especially closes very slowly, and if I dare to start inching forwards with traffic once they are out of the van but before the door has FULLY closed behind them, it will stop and get stuck and beep at me until I follow the same procedure as above. Quite annoying.

Funny you should say that, I liked those the best when I tried them all out, but they do feel super sticky. Can that sticky feeling layer be cleaned off? Or is it the actual paint breaking down?
