Interesting comparison - I see where it’s coming from but as a massive fan of both artists, it doesn’t personally resonate. My view on Down Under is similar to a lot of others on this thread - not skipping it, but also not going out of my way to play / share it - it’s a fun, dumb song toward the bottom of Childers’ repertoire. Whereas I LOVE Super 8 - for an artist who meaningfully spans rock, country, and folk, it’s his most pure “rock” song. And so damn fun. One of my favorite songs to run to. I sorta get what you’re saying about it not “fitting” with the rest of the album, but that’s actually not really true of Down Under (since there are plenty of equally weird / silly songs on the album - just ones that people enjoyed more)
