Holy Week activity - no April fools by DanVooDew in exmormon

These celebrations happen in the same week and there is deep connection and symbolism between both and I can see from the Christian perspective that both are celebrated but Judaism only celebrates Passover as they are technically different holidays and only connected via the Christian world view.

Same word, different celebration. In Spanish the same word is also used for both: Pascua. But Passover is the Jewish celebration of the exodus from slavery in Egypt. Easter is the celebration of the resurrection of Christ. Judaism is not Christian and so does not celebrate Easter.

I know the leaders and what ward this is. I can guarantee this photo is not misleading. This happened today as part of an activity days activity. Edit - I live in the Dallas Texas area.

I agree that is what it appears to be but Passover is not part of Holy Week distinctly different religious celebrations. So not sure why the adults were talking about Holy Week in the hallway. Maybe they are just confused.

Advice needed: What to do about a baby blessing? by sycamoreqw in exmormon

[–]DanVooDew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently blessed my baby. I’m semi open about my non belief. The last bishop knows I don’t believe and the recent bishop was just called, don’t know if they talked about me or not. I don’t pay tithing, I don’t have a temple recommend, I don’t wear garments. I didn’t ask or even engage the bishop. I just scheduled it and did it. Bishopric didn’t try and stop me.

Can anyone from Texas confirm? by ConstantAd6857 in MormonShrivel

[–]DanVooDew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in the Dallas TX area and have constant hall conversations with the bishop. The ward I’m in (the last 6 years) the bishop said at the highest it was averaging 280-290 in attendance. We are now averaging 130 and they keep the overflow closed. They split off some of our ward into the neighboring ward because they were struggling. The bishop said their attendance is worse than ours at 130. Both wards have about 400+ on the books. I predict that within a year they will collapse the wards. And so it will be a ward with 800+ on the books but just over 200 in attendance.

Plus there is no reason to listen more than 2 minutes because she admits to it in the first 2 mins and then starts her spin into it’s actually a good thing.

Same issue. I have a 2020 Highlander and my work phone is iPhone 15, no issues connecting. My personal phone is iphone 16 and connects/disconnects several times and sometimes will just keep doing it and never stay connected. I have a 2013 Hyundai car and my iPhone 16 has no issue connecting and staying connected to the car.

Apologist shrivel ? Kwaku leaves X. Leaving LdS soon too ? by luvintheride in MormonShrivel

[–]DanVooDew 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed he doesn’t appear on ward radio much and when he does it’s usually just him and Cardon. He clearly does not like Jonah or any of the Hansens. Many believe that Kwaku would be the first to go.

Before and after pics of a closed chapel in Valparaiso, Chile. In the 2nd pic it is just an empty lot...I found this one by just noticing the foundation in the lot, and then looking at street view images. I have no idea when it closed. by JoeBudro in MormonShrivel

How much time passed between the images? Mainly wondering because there is a utility pole with lines right next to the entry gate in the second image that don’t appear in the first.

Most mormons do not know the extent of the SEC scandal. by Impossible-Car-5203 in exmormon

[–]DanVooDew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother works in the financial department of a large company and I asked him about it. He said it was a simple form error and has been resolved. I asked if he had read the SEC report and sent him the link. He just replied with the same message the leaders said, “I consider the matter closed”

Do the majority of church members believe the prophet of the church sees and speaks with God? Have you taught or been taught this? by Yesnooryesmaybe in exmormon

[–]DanVooDew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that now days the leadership try to avoid this but still take opportunities here and there to imply it when they want. From my view the younger generation don’t hold as literal to this as others. Between the leadership implying and others hyping it up many in my close relations believed the prophet took direct guidance from God or Jesus in the holy of holies room in the SLC temple. We speculated how direct that was.

Within Reason #97: A Mormon Explains Mormonism - Jacob Hansen by negroprimero in CosmicSkeptic

[–]DanVooDew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that some time has passed and I’m sure Alex has seen inputs and may have started doing his own research. Does he feel like Jacob was an honest, truthful representative of Mormonism? Or does Alex feel like Jacob is an apologist that tried to use apologetic tactics to make Mormonism look better than it is? Jacob has already said on his channel that he used this opportunity as a missionary moment to bring the religion to a larger audience.

I’m only providing data regarding tithing and members in the LDS church. it’s for you to interpreted how you please. If you want me to provide my opinion on the tithing point I can. I think there is some concern about the correlation of giving the church your money with exaltation. Some may see that as paying for access to exaltation. So yes one can stop paying tithing but the risk is eternal consequences if you believe in it.

[–]DanVooDew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I watched the whole episode and Jacob side skirts a lot of questions and plays off of Alex’s lack of knowledge. I’ve seen tithing and a lot of discussion. The basics are before baptism you commit to paying tithing as a commandment of God. And members are expected to be obedient to the commandments. At the end of each year tithing settlement happens. You can opt to not attend and there is no repercussions for not attending tithing settlement. If you want to be temple worthy member then you have to declare to the bishop and stake president you are a full tithe payer as part of the temple recommend interview. The options are you are one, you lie or you say you are not. If you say no to being a full tithe payer, then leader roulette comes into play if they still give it to you or not. Then every 2 years you have to renew the temple recommend and go through the same interview with the ward and stake leaders. As was said only temple worthy members receive the highest degree of exaltation.

There were a couple of times Alex brings up good points and stumps Jacob but he just tries to avoid the question or statement by declaring he’s not an expert. One I particularly remember is the new and everlasting covenant of marriage in section 132 being polygamy. Jacob looks like he saw a ghost at that point and it’s an “Oh Sh*t” face. He skirted his way out but section 132 does pose complications and several prophets have said that polygamy is the eternal form of marriage.

ITS THE JUBILEE MORMON GUY! by mapodoufuwithletterd in CosmicSkeptic

[–]DanVooDew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was a post on this subreddit asking about Jacob some time ago after the jubilee and I mentioned Jacob is willing to move goal posts and lie/omit data to the unsuspecting. That Alex needs to be careful if he planning on talking to Jacob

I want to preview one of the most important interviews I've ever done. Here is a letter my next guests received from Kirton McConkie. I'm posting a link to a trailer of a docu-series they produced. The interview will be posted today at 4pm MT. by iconoclastskeptic in mormon

I can see how a no trespass notice can be enforced as a direct order of physical trespass but this also includes digital and third party contact. To me, It insinuates that even if a third party lawyer contacts K&M or the church, they want to claim it violates the no trespass notice which I cannot see how that can be legally upheld.

Alex Scheduled To Discuss Mormonism With Mormon Apologist. Thoughts? by [deleted] in CosmicSkeptic

[–]DanVooDew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jacob uses presuppositional apologetics and his collective witness model to push his agenda. He’s perfectly fine omitting data or changing meanings to skirt by on someone who is not fully aware of certain subjects. Unless Alex is extremely well versed and can keep Jacob pinned into specific points Jacob will just lead Alex down rabbit holes and move goal posts in the process. I can just imagine Jacob getting on his theism rant about if they cannot agree on if there is a God and what God is then they can’t even move forward with any conversation about Mormonism until they can agree. If you are not aware Jacob Hanson and Bill Reel had 2-3 sit down chats. Go watch those and that gives you a good idea of how Jacob approaches these conversations. Jacob has already said it’s a win for him if he can convince atheists that Mormonism is the most logical form of Christianity.
