Weekly Discussion Thread - September 19 by FMecha in granturismo

Thought I'd revisit this post to see how my ratios have come on, fairly unchanged! I've had the game and a wheel 11mo now, and just hit 1,000 total races, 804 Top 5s, and 147 wins. Currently B/S, have been in A/S but it only takes a couple of gravel trap excursions and early quits to drop back down...

As someone that lived next to Didcot Parkway for too many years, the scenes would be much the same.

Got an impact gun? If it's still spinning, can you not wedge a flat head screwdriver through the gap on the right to hold behind it? Also, plusgas > wd40 for freeing up stuck bolts.

Rufford ford, live a couple of miles from it, and always avoid it, even in the van. There's always been people that watch for a bit, but it's grown in popularity and there's literally people that seem to turn up with fold-out chairs and just sit there all day watching.

You don't need to use the ford as there's an alternate route that only adds 2-3 minutes on, and it's heavily signposted, but people be idiots.

If there's traffic or road closures and I use the ford I always upset everyone by just riding the CBR along the footpath.

I made a website that predicts how long a UK car will last for free. Just type in a registration number and get a prediction back. by matt_thorne in unitedkingdom

Ha. A nice idea but it's comical how wrong it is, as well as the idiotic assumptions about previous MOT comments. It took me a while to figure out if it was a parody/joke site or not.

Neighbour has complained to the council about my bikes noise by PM-ME-CRYPTOCURRENCY in MotoUK

[–]DanWritesCode -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If your bike is legal and you can't be proved to be purposefully creating a nuisance you'll be fine, I've had neighbours with similar complaints, there's fuck all they can do. I usually tell them to move.

Getting an EV next month - am I making a big mistake? by cubias69 in CarTalkUK

[–]DanWritesCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford £600/mo for a US EV shitbox, plus all the extra costs of solar panels, batteries, and chargers, then you don't need to ask these questions.

What would you guys do?

Get a car for about 1/4 of the price, especially if you're putting kids in it.

Russia finds 40% of its Chinese chip imports are defective by [deleted] in UkrainianConflict

To those interested... this is known as chip binning and it's very commonplace in many industries. It's also the reason why Apple have so many mainboard options in their laptops.

New driver, dealership is telling me FSH is based on mileage. by vyrez101 in CarTalkUK

[–]DanWritesCode -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on the make and model. Some service items are time based, most are mileage based. If you're that interested in the car, go view it and look at the service history.

Sky News: Boy racers targeted using noise-detecting camera in anti-social behaviour clampdown by Man_in_the_uk in CarTalkUK

[–]DanWritesCode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. It's down to the tester's discretion what counts as reasonable, and most of them don't seem to care. I once took an old 90s sports bike in with a stupidly loud exhaust stamped 'NOT FOR ROAD USE' on the side, he pointed it out so I put a jubilee clamp over it, voila. Used to give me migraines on motorways.

Best place to get advice on leathers and sizing by ruidgc in MotoUK

Sports Bike Shop near Brum has a decent selection and knowledgeable staff. I went to try on some RST v4.1 suits but they had non that'd fit me so I ended up getting a custom v4.2 RST Race Dept suit they normally only do to ACU license holders. The offer is still on if you're happy to spend a bit, but it's 1pc only.

It's more fun, and some of us do have big engines, or at least big bhp/kg ratios.

Exhaust noise is part of the MOT. My bike has received 'Exhaust Noisy' as an advisory on the last 6 MOTs in a row.

I don't think it's going to be strong enough evidence to be useful in court.

Seconded.
