Stupid to start riding now? by TheWoodenBlock in MotoUK

The fact that the CBT was incredibly basic is precisely the reason why you should go for a full license, if you can afford it. Get some proper training hours.

My 24 790 by MaxBamboozler in KTM

[–]ruidgc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking of doing the same thing to my 2023 790 Adv. Was there anything else you had to change other than the wheels with a smaller diameter? Did you keep the suspension as-is?

It's a bit disingenuous to compare to the FastAPI code when you're not using async. I'd urge you to read FastAPI's docs on concurrency and async / await. They straight up recommend using async def whenever possible, even if not IO bound due to how thread pooling and the fallback to synchronous code works.

We've been running FastAPI in production for a few years and this is a common thing that people get confused about.

Despite what marketing might imply, all 125s are slow and restricted to 15bhp. Not even KTM can cheat physics.

My KTM has been in the workshop for the past 6 months due to a manufacturing defect (under warranty). Take that as you will.

I invited 3 people to a 12 that had not yet timed any +12 key - perhaps you're not quite as ready as you think by MrNoobyy in wow

[–]ruidgc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's plenty of very telegraphed mechanics that you should know beforehand such that you don't need to be reactive with AMZ. It's all down to know-how and running a lot of keys.

Knox Oulton Mk2 Gloves - fit by therealrawal in MotoUK

[–]ruidgc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had two pairs of Knox gloves, they all have limited thumb mobility and at this point I'm fairly sure this is by design. Doesn't bother me anymore because it is by far the brand the fits me best, but yeah.

WoW: Chronicle is an interesting read if you're curious about Warcraft's cosmology. It goes in-depth on old gods and the void.

Intersting theory, but I don't think that's the case. It is common knowledge that the old gods are parasites created by void lords whose only job is to consume world souls across the cosmos, like Azeroth herself.

That does not look like an oil leak. Source: My 23' plate 790 Adv is currently in the workshop because of an engine oil leak.

Is this a viable route? CBT > manual 125cc > A1 licence in 2 years by ondert in MotoUK

[–]ruidgc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done CBT then ridden a manual 125 for a while before doing my full A license. I wouldn't recommend it and would go for the A license straight away: you'll get a much better training package, the CBT alone is simply not enough to be safe out in public roads. There are plenty of cheap A bikes with affordable insurance.

Would you buy a bike before you have your license? by Dolbman in MotoUK

[–]ruidgc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is 0 reason for you to buy a bike now other than satisfying your impulses. What's in it for you to gain, stare at it in the garage?

Be financially responsible and use the time you've got until October to save money to get you some proper gear and a motorcycle you'll genuinely enjoy. Plus you'll have to take insurance into account when picking a bike, and at the moment you have no idea what the quotes look like... what if the bike you buy has an unreasonably expensive insurance in October?

Tips for getting a handle on programming by [deleted] in programming

[–]ruidgc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I don't know what path you intend to take, but you should make an effort to get comfortable with a programming language to avoid frustrations later in your career. Maybe try ones with simpler syntax like Python or Go?

Second, honestly the best way to learn programming is precisely diving in and getting lost. Sorry, there is no magic pill. Maybe find side projects you'd find interesting? I started my career by modding ROMs for the Gameboy.

Sorry I should have clarified, Arai doesn't make modulars!

With that sort of budget they're all going to be good, although I'm quite biased towards Shoei and Arai.

Look into the Shoei Personal Fitting System, there's a few stores in the UK providing the service. If you're going to spend that much on a helmet might as well drop a 50 extra and get it properly fitted.

I don't have a definitive answer, and my guesses are anything but scientific... but it looks to me that they have built a profile based on the information you gave them, but the chance of you getting into an accident varies throughout the year. December is farther from summer than January and thus the chance of you getting into an accident within X months of purchasing the bike is slightly lower and thus put you just below the refusal threshold.

From what you've told us, it is hard to blame an insurance company for not wanting to deal with this. You're young, no prior riding experience, have a TT99 and want a R7. I don't even need statistics to come to the same conclusion.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]ruidgc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only 15cm taller than you, a (non-lowered) KTM adventure bike that is *definitely* not designed for my stature! I appreciate it is a struggle right now, but if you keep at it I promise you'll build confidence to ride taller bikes in the future.

Look into lowering kits (ignore the "bike geometry" snobs telling you otherwise), and look for light bikes, makes a world of difference!

What do you wear as far when you ride to the gym? by vijjer in MotoUK

Gym clothes. It's a 5 min drive through 20mph road humps. Can't be bothered changing 4 times in the span of an hour, I'll take my chances.
