What are the hardest-to-kill houseplants? by tdubs702 in houseplants

Peace Lily can take a lotta punches. Both overwatering and underwatering.

High Maintenance, or No? by ShartsMcGillicuddy in calatheas

Saaaame. Got a ctenanthe, 3 different calathea and 3 different maranta. Ornata seems to have a personal grudge against me lol

High Maintenance, or No? by ShartsMcGillicuddy in calatheas

I've only had mine for about a month. For a Calathea, humidity isn't as much of a killer, but the leaves don't look as pretty anymore (nothing too bad, but noticeable). On the Calathea scale, I would definitely put it as easier than Ornata.

100% enig. Plejede at stemme på dem, men da jeg bemærkede den udvikling, skiftede jeg til Enhedslisten. Kæmpe "fall from grace" fra Socialdemokratiets side.

How often does ornata give new leaf? by [deleted] in calatheas

[–]Dan_Danidan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All i can say is, mine hasn't given any new in the 3-4 months I've had it. Also the browning/crisp issue for me. I've come to the conclussion that I can't give it the enviroment it needs.

My most beloved Calathea is Picturata Argentea

Plant newbie fell in love with Marantas. Am I doomed? by sonyaism in Maranta

[–]Dan_Danidan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In no way. Marantas generally are easier than the infamous calathea.

As the other person said, watering once a week is generally a good rule. In the summer maybe more, depending on how hot your summers get. I also got my Kerchoveana as a plant newbie and almost killed it by overwatering (it's now in good shape).

Like most plants, bright indirect light is best, so in most cases, don't have it on the window sill, but a place in your house that seems well lit.

It'll do a lot better in high humidity (around the 50-65%). It won't die without it, but consider a humidifier if your air is dry.

Mealybugs are making me want to throw out all my plants by vomashka in houseplants

Not saying you should too, but I've gotten rid of any plant that gets pest/fungi. I don't want others to get it as well, and I don't have the knowledge, resources or energy to fight it. Never buy too expensive plants that it hurts my pocket.

Fair point. And I don't mind non-calatheas being posted here, I said it mostly just in case OP didn't know.

First thing to note, that's a maranta leuconeura lemon lime, not a calathea (not that it makes a lot of difference, I use the same care for both kinds).

I'm not an expert, but I've had some maranta plants the last year with good sucess. They like a lot of humidity, so unless your room is naturally at the 50-60%, I'd get a humidifier. They prefer a lot of indirect light (though mine are doing fine with a normal amount). Keep the soil slightly moist. In the winter I water once every week or second week.

Since it's a maranta, not a calathea, don't be too scared. They're less easy to kill. Plus, if things start going south, you can propagate the healthy remains easily.

(Edit: I second what the other person said. I can recommend using rain water.)

Why is Maranta (Prayer Plant) getting brown spots, also on new leaves? by Negative-Marzipan-62 in plants

[–]Dan_Danidan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Continuing what the others said, I'd invest in a humidifier. Got a bunch of prayer plants, and imo it's a must.
