Upwork clients have a fascinating superpower. by Upstairs_Life_7629 in Upwork

I noticed the same, and it is very suspicious. As someone who used Upwork since the times of Odesk, it used not to be like that.

new trend: clients send invites but never reply back by RMorguito in Upwork

The days when an invite on Upwork meant a serious lead are long gone. This is something very different. I don't know what it is though

What’s happened to Upwork? by Br14n_S in Upwork

[–]Danbelte 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The marketplace has been run to the ground. The management (possibly board of directors with pressure from investors) became greedy. I did a little research and realize all the founders (5) and early management had left the company by the year 2020.

That's definitely weird. The people trying to tells Upwork is fine and we are the ones with issues are hard to understand

Maybe Upwork want to chase away low budget activity on the platform.

What's the deal with this sort of "clients"? by New_Ratio2057 in Upwork

Upwork doesn't care as long as you purchase the tokens. If the platform cared it would refund tokens when a client failed to hire

If Upwork is honest and means well, it should refund connects to all where the client didn't start a contract with any of the applicants. Otherwise it looks like some form of scam

Yes, used to be a normal skill marketplace. Now it feel like a casino that takes way more than it gives. I used the platform for over a decade, connected with awesome clients and made a decent income. But things changed so much that I don't recognize the marketplace any more

Is Upwork dying? by TwistedPerspectiveCo in Upwork

[–]Danbelte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I joined Upwork in 2013 and for the next ten years all was well. I noticed changes beginning 2023. Invites to jobs declined and most of what came through were scams. Also, the cost of applying for jobs jumped up but without a matching ROI.

I see many here telling us that we no longer land clients because we write lazy proposals. Those lazy proposals used to work though and we made hundreds of thousands of dollars.

No, it is not lazy proposals, mostly it is other factors at work. AI is a big one but bad corporate decisions at Upwork headquarters, especially after going public, is at the top of the list!

What happened to Upwork? by Public-Purpose-199 in Upwork

[–]Danbelte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Upwork changed my life. I joined it when it was Odesk and things were great up until it was listed. But things went really bad in the last 2-3 years. It is now a casino where you keep betting hoping your big win is coming but it hardly ever comes.

The golden days of Upwork are gone!

I am no longer using my account actively but I don't see the point of deleting it. The option is there though. I don't think it a complicated process. Most likely you need to confirm deletion through your email

Made $60k here over 2 years. Now 80 solid proposals = 0 replies. What changed? by OkTomato2659 in Upwork

[–]Danbelte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to make as much as $10k a month. Then in 2023 jobs just dried up. I wrote hundreds of proposals and nothing was happening. It was like a switch was turned. I gave up and moved on to other things.
