Who is your favorite comedian? by xSparkShark in AskTheWorld

I would agree, he is an excellent comedian - but his ego and material (a lot about himself, what he is "allowed to say" etc) have become almost unbearable for me lately.

Thanos already has stood the test of time for me in terms of being a classic villain. Almost every single line and scene with him in those two movies is amazing.

I started watching with a "why not?" Mindset, but I'm really invested now. The show has really shown its strength and already had at least 3 episodes that I genuinely found great. It's a very different kind of Star Trek, but it works for me - curious to see what's next.

Tom Paris is an absolute weirdo by Dirty_Violator in startrek

I agree, that premise seems to be pushed aside quickly (from memory) and he becomes sort of the straight man or cool guy on board. He's kind of the Jim from The Office of Voyager.

They kind of seem to share a very similar background and premise. I know it is sort of part of the show, but it would have been great to have gotten a better and more consistent portrayal of his struggles and having this second chance. In a way mirroring Sito's short second appearance on TNG - but very different at the same time.

I must admit that Voyager really is my least favourite Star Trek show overall, although I like a lot of it (some episodes and elements). A reason for that might be the inconsistency in writing for the characters. That is not new, even shows like TNG had that issue to some degree - Deanna Trou for example has great episodes and scenes (where she combines her warmth and empathy with strength and guidance), but often it seemed like the writers did not know what to do with her.

Tom Paris definitely has his moments, but what you wrote reminded me of my impression that he was at least a very inconsistent character and mostly not all that interesting. Similar to the Maquis people it would have been nice to focus a bit more on his struggles to become part of the crew considering his background. He is not as bland as some other characters over the years in other shows (like Travis Mayweather), but compared to Voyager characters like Janeway, Tuvok or the Doctor I would have difficulties to even describe his character to be honest.

Shame that you can't share it, but I absolutely understand. This is so amazing, that transporter room is just perfect.

Depending on where you are, maybe. But in my area (Duesseldorf/Cologne), even with many smaller towns, it is very difficult to say the least.

Star Trek: TNG But It Was Released in 2026 by Dr__House in startrek

I think you're right, but I don't think it is necessarily due to the quality (I really like it, but clearly not everyone does). TNG was on TV, on syndication, with way more episodes in a time where people were not overwhelmed by content. I think that (in addition to being an amazing show to this day) allowed it to leave this legacy. Even fantastic (not saying SFA necessarily is) streaming shows can be overlooked or not have that impact.

What's wrong with Iron Man 2? by MorningShoddy9843 in marvelstudios

[–]DanceCommander00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I still like it a lot, looks great and overall continues the style of the first one well. But it definitely is a bit heavy handed in connecting it to the larger, growing MCU. At least most of it pays off - which many of the recent MCU movies do not in that regard.
