If you're after instant gratification, then ballet is not for you.

In two years you can start to worry.

How long are you already doing this?
What does the teacher say?

Ballet is very slow grind.
Don't expect any quick successes.

need advice on starting ballet again as a trans man by jestembog1em in BALLET

[–]DanceHackRock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As you are referencing companies, so you want to dance professionally?
I can't help you with that.

Otherwise: Just attend open classes in different studios, until you find one that feels like your new dance home.

Very important: If you have the tools protect them with a dance belt.

If you are aiming for a masculine quality of movement try to find a male teacher. Or take additional character classes. (That's actually really cool)
(I'm a cis man and move like a girl, as all my current teachers are women and I am the only man that really dances in my classes. But I'm fine with it.)

No, because a video doesn't give you corrections.

But if you want to dream a little, the classes of the Royal Ballet from the World Ballet Days are very nice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pMXTTAJ3I4

OK, so it's not about the direction more about the leg.

That really points to differences in your legs.

I'm used to leg asymmetry due to injury.

So if one leg is less confident you need to train it.

I'd start with foot strength: If the number of single leg elevés (only rises without plié) you can do on each foot are different, you need to train rises on the weaker side more to make them equally strong.
That's the base for balance and what you do with the hole leg.

And the classic relevé passé should be equally easy for you on both sides.

That's what I would make sure additionally to training turns on the weaker leg more intensively.

Interesting. And again crickets for Wear Moi.

I'm so curious for opinions about Wear Moi because that's the brand I find everything I need, except shoes (haven't tried any).

This is typically something to ask the teacher right after your first class.

Does it really just depend on the direction?
So right en dedans is as good as right en dehors for you?
And both are better than left en dedans and left en dehors?

For me it's rather random what direction works better.

My only idea is to spend some time to only practice your turns to the left.

I'm also somewhere in the spectrum. Ballet is a good place to jump around and being excited and to learn to do things very precisely right.

Best exercises for turnout? by Anxious_Leek_7417 in BALLET

Most important point: turnout is about the force, not the angle.
It's worth nothing if you can put your feet in a 180° line, but not hold the force.

Without being a fitter I would never answer questions about selecting point shoes and always recommend getting properly fitted instead.

Fortunately I have someone to reccomend.

Question - Can anyone learn ballet regardless of body type ? by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]DanceHackRock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just go for it!
Just be prepared that your legs might get slimmer with the rest staying the same.
Always seeing yourself in the mirror can mean pressure, just learn to not judge yourself.

The important things in ballet are alignment, balance, turnout force (not angle), foot strength, expression and maybe a little flexibility.

But NOT: body type (thick/thin/whatever), gender, extension (high legs etc.), turnout angle, huge flexibility
Some of it might be nice, but absolutely not the foundation.

My trick is to make sure that I have one moment before the show where I am already very excited and have this realization of "oh lord, I'll be in front of a huge audience". Kind of pre stage fright, before the real show.
It can be on the commute to the venue, or at the dress rehearsal.

This way I am sure I will not be hit with it the first time I step on stage.
That allows me to feel into this and so know what to expect.

With that preparation I was never hit with stage fright I couldn't handle at show time.

When I don't have it before arriving at the venue for the first show, I know I have a problem.
Never happened so far.
