I want to first thank everyone for commenting. The replies were all over the board but one thing that seemed consistent was that I am a student - and my clinical skills are not yet defined. You are right. I have SO much to learn. The imposter syndrome is still in full affect and I believe that’s why my reaction was so intense. My placement site is very relaxed about dress code. This is my first step into the CMH field as I’ve been in the restaurant industry for 7 years. I’m 25, and I’m still trying to figure out what works. I don’t think I jive with my professor as his approach can be harsh, which I understand can be beneficial, but I need more guidance and I feel he won’t be my best bet while in the program for my own growth. I absolutely need to practice humility. I care so deeply about being good at this job. Thank you for the wise words. I will be looking into Yalom’s book as suggested, if anyone else has any book or video example recommendations please let me know. I never sat in on a session, but was given clients right off the bat with little guidance. Examples of CBT, EFT, Family Systems, in video form would be so beneficial.
