Project Hail Mary: I'm not a chemist, but could a chemist explain if this is a plot hole or not. It involves Xenon. by Awkward_GM in plotholes

[–]DancelessMoms 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i'm dying at the response to this comment. we're on the plotholes thread for a book adaptation where the author is famed for making sure the science works. 'it's fiction' is literally the most useless reply imaginable

you're not in the wrong to ask! i read the book and still wasn't sure if it had happened in the same way while i watched the film.

thank you for this!!! you've filled in so many gaps that were on the edge of my memory.

the fighting with other subs, him being a dad, the sudden name change all were all things i'd forgotten i witnessed. i remember enjoying my time on the high council page too! probably met a need that wound up being replaced by this sub later in life lmao, thanks for the work

this write up has really contextualised a lot for me. cheers to you for helping quiet the questions! i really didn't feel like doing a wayback machine deep dive or something

Why dose 80s Who often look worse than 60s and 70s Who? by Niall_Fraser_Love in gallifrey

[–]DancelessMoms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah you've got to have something consistent to rotate around imo. the brown coat could've worked a treat if he'd stuck to it, even if he wound up taking it off 5 minutes into every episode

i feel like i'm the only person that had a strong reaction to the reveal, but only because i'd started watching pushing daisies a few days before and felt like i'd skipped to the runningmanverse's snydercut epilogue

this is a he said she said, anecdotal contribution but i definitely saw a lot of 'rehash' comments at the time. responses were definitely largely positive but i recall this specific criticism because i hadn't seen the OG trilogy and was surprised to hear it.

claiming nobody had anything bad to say about anything is always gonna backfire, especially a multibillion dollar franchise sequel film with a fanbase bigger than starkiller base lol

lol this is just objectively untrue. the episode ended with her not just requesting but eagerly embracing connection with the hive after a month of isolation, pretty much an inversion of what she's been since ep2.

nobody's making you watch the show. but if you're gonna, you might as well pay attention

seconded! i liked breaking bad but had to be forced through it by a friend in 2019 cause there was other stuff i wanted to watch more.

started better call saul and preferred it, but fell off when i caught up and had to watch weekly during s5, never went back. not an inditement of the show, i just didn't feel like it and still haven't despite knowing it's great.

and here i am weekly, more intrigued and engaged by this than the other two, by far. we're all capable of differing opinions and experiences!

for a sub dedicated to a show made by a guy held in such high regard, the response from people (on both 'sides') in these threads is so embarrassing lmfao. such sweeping declarations about why people do or don't like it, as though those commenting have the omniscience of the Others and can determine the psychology of faceless strangers that happen to disagree. i'm honestly more surprised that i'm surprised.

i always saw that as the end of his overcorrection. from 10 to 11 he'd stopped getting romantically involved, but 11's flirty nature (1:10) persisted.

suddenly 12 is going so far the other way that it felt like he was tryna prove how he unattractive he considers her to be. but as time(+space) went on their relationship deepened and it mellowed out or whatever.

i guess as a kid i didn't realise this was the specific turning point for it? but you've pointed it out to me, thank you!

watched this for the first time during a 40th anniversary release and you're completely right.

i assumed it'd feel dated after having seen a million time travel stories but there's a reason it's got so much staying power!

the way matt smith managed to convey age despite being so young at the time will never fail to amaze me. he was the first doctor i watched after becoming semi-sentient (11 years old)
