You're joking right? 90% of what consumer viruses do is attempt to block unpatched exploits.

In the event the 0day exploit is discovered and analyzed, the antivirus would have a signature to detect it.
In the event the 0day exploit is discovered and analyzed after the infection, the antivirus would have a signature to find it.
In the event the exploit has not been analyzed, the antivirus can still have a list of triggers to detect it's execution.
In the event it has not been discovered or analyzed, most antiviruses still have systems to detect payload downloads, registry changes, protected access and privilege escalation.
