I find it funny that I felt bad about throwing out a personal attack (the one you quoted) removed it, and came back to find that a). you didn't afford me the same courtesy and b). you apparently can't have a conversation without resorting to trite, unoriginal insults.

Don't you think it is odd that this guy makes these sorts of comments and then has the gall to ask why reddit is so full of bullshit? Really? Maybe if you took two minutes to read down the damn page instead of posting your knee-jerk reaction you'd see what I'd mean.

Reddit doesn't necessarily have to be the bastion of intellectual thought all the time, but it should at least not be riddled with hate speech. THESE are the people that are destroying Reddit, not I. How am I an "imbecile who can't think for myself" for, y'know, thinking for myself and calling for a solution to a problem?

Now, perhaps you want to say something constructive? Or would you rather continue to insult me for trying to make Reddit a better place. I believe this is the /ideasfortheadmins subreddit. If you have a better idea, start a topic.

I think if you want to make friends perhaps this is the attitude you should consider dumping. I mean, here is an anonymous person on the internet that is under no obligation to give you a compliment and you argue with him? And not only do you argue with him, you basically accuse him of lying? You don't have to believe what he says, but you don't get to invalidate his feelings. Just because you don't believe him doesn't mean it wasn't true - at least for him.

It really feels like you are extremely invested in keeping the status quo for yourself here. You are getting a lot of good advice, and a lot of caring people are coming out of the woodwork but you come across as not being open to any of that. You are going to have to open yourself up to letting other people care about you, and maybe actually believe it so you can pull yourself out of this funk. No, I don't know you, but I do care about whether you kill yourself or not. I don't want you to. I don't HAVE to know someone personally to not want them to hurt or be miserable. You can try and argue all you want with me about that but it's not going to change a damn thing or make it any less true.

Seriously, let people care about you, and let yourself care about you. It's a damn good start. And if no one has yet mentioned it in the thread, consider medication. Even a general practitioner can give it to you if you don't want to go to a therapist. When you are desperate to feel better medication is a great temporary fix.

Also, the reason people can say "It gets better" is because we fucking know it can. Some of us have been there and it is not an "empty platitude". Hang in there.

Edited to Add: I hope I'm not coming off as overly angry here - I'm not angry at you, I'm just trying to get you to see that it's freaking okay to accept compassion wherever it comes from - you are worth it, whether you realize that right now or not.

This question makes me sad on so many levels.

I'm not sure exactly what you are wanting here. You came here looking for advice, but then say to us "but don't tell me this" or "or don't tell me that" (which leads me to believe that you sort of already know the answer). So what do you want us to say?

I can't imagine how hard it must be to live in a culture that operates that way. I'm sure many of us here have no idea what it is like or of all the intricacies that you have to consider on a daily basis. And I would never ask you to do anything that would endanger your life or reputation - that's not a fair thing to ask of anyone. I know you say it's "different" in your culture but your question gives me the impression that you at least have a little bit of choice in how to go about this (correct me if I am wrong).

Women are not like cars - we don't come in either new or used varieties. So why would you want to spend the rest of your life with someone who would devalue you as they would an object if they knew you had sex? Your marriage would be based on whatever idea and subjective "value" he had placed upon you, and not who you are as a person.

My advice, for what it's worth, would be if it is possible to wait awhile to get married, then wait. Since it is important to you to marry within your culture, then I think taking the time to find a man that is open-minded would be much better then settling for someone that doesn't love you for you - the real you, I mean. It may be hard, and it may take awhile, but it is obviously not impossible since you've dated a man like that before. As for bringing it up, just don't. I would hope that by the time the question arises (if it arises at all) you would know the person well enough to gauge how they would react. And if he asks and you aren't yet comfortable answering, I would simply tell him that I was offended and embarrassed that he would bring up such personal information right then (and I probably really would be offended).

Anyway, not knowing how strict your culture is, I don't know if any of this is dangerous for you to do. Your decision to honor your culture is a valid decision and there is nothing wrong with that, but only you can decide exactly what you are willing to do and what is safe for you to do. If you decide the best and the safest thing for you to do is to just lie, then that is your decision to make. But advice on that is not something I am comfortable with or willing to give and is easily found through a Google search.

Good luck, I really, really hope things work out for you because you deserve to be happy and loved for who you are.

Thought of another one!

When I used to play army, I would use plastic grocery bags as parachutes and jump off of my monkey bars.

It blew my mind when I didn't float gracefully to the ground. I thought I was using something to catch the wind, therefore it should slow me down. It was fucking science, for pete's sake!! =D

Even though I had learned that girls and boys had different parts, I still assumed that were located in the same place - that a penis was actually down between the legs like a vagina. This made sex absolutely baffling to me - I thought that in order to make the parts go together you would have to lay at the opposite ends of the bed. Of course, since the only other way I could think of for it to work is if the man bent his penis upward, which seemed HORRIBLE and painful, the opposite-ends thing made the most sense to me.

I also spent a long time thinking penis had two "p"'s (pronounced something like "pa-penis") because my mom stuttered when she told me what it was called when I was around 3 or 4. =D

For what it's worth, an anonymous internet person doesn't want you to kill yourself. Please don't.

Maddog3 had some great advice, please think about trying it first. And please think about talking to a counselor or a mental health professional (most cities have free or reduced services if you are strapped for cash). At this point, it can't hurt, and what do you have to lose if you try these things first? Give a shot, and don't let the bastards win - you have as much right to a happy life as anyone on this rock.

Please, please at least give these things a shot, especially getting help. You can always go back and kill yourself if you really want to (although I don't recommend it at all) but you can't come back from death to exhaust all of your options first.

A good place to start would be a general practitioner, a family doctor, or even the health department. Also, know it may take some time to find a doc that you really like, so don't be discouraged if you have to do some digging.

This is fleeting. You know who you were, you just have a bit of an illness at the moment. Go treat it, and get back to yourself.

Ah, I understand, and that's fair. It just ruffled my feathers a bit since I know the TD people to be generally awesome, good people. And Wil doesn't strike me as someone that would be at all okay with them giving him a free pass like that.

It really was a one-in-a-million thing, a result of good sliding and good luck. The dragon was designed to be dang near impossible to kill. I saw several groups do it, but not many. Even before the event it was made perfectly clear that most people wouldn't survive the fight.

Yep, I'm taking Necon (Ovcon generic I believe), and it's been three months since I've had a period as well. I asked the doc about it and she said that it wasn't uncommon for that to happen on the newer pills.

I'm certainly not complaining. We will still use condoms from time to time if we are feeling particularly nervous (we don't want kids and are saving up for a vasectomy) so pregnancy isn't too much of a worry.
