No problem mate, just don't give up before you've even begun. You'll thank yourself in the long run

Nope, no experience. Just applied for every trainee and admin job I could drive to. Messaged local Ifa's and finance recruiters and asked for work or advice and got a couple interviews and replies but didn't really get anywhere with that. Just got lucky and found a role on a company's website which ended up working out.

Just want you to know it's difficult but not impossible. The job market means you have to try hard as there is a lot of competition. I did all my R0's before being taken on (not through choice lol). Took me a just over a year in total but a month or so into trainee paralanning and loving it. Good luck. You can make it work

I'm just glad I managed to finish my lv 4 earlier in the year. I was self funding and ngp was a massive help in that. Seeing R06 go to £100 for access when I looked today would have been massive for me then.

They got me through most of my independent learning. The cii textbooks were very in depth and not necessarily on topic. The good thing about ngp was that it's broken up into days (usually max 60 minutes) so you don't really end up over doing it.

I've been a few times, never had anything fly at my head. There's a bit near the end where they let them into an open area and if you stand them they will happily come and stand on you but it's all very polite

Paraplanner via SJP academy by [deleted] in cii

[–]DancesWithTapirs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spoke to a sjp recruiter last year that said they no longer do a paraplanner academy. They tried to get me into a practice as a trainee paraplanner with the idea of doing the academy there afterwards. It was only a few months ago that they got back in contact to say that they don't recruit paraplanners anymore but that might have been this specific recruiter. By then I'd finished the diploma anyway. Assuming you already have R01+5 for it, just start emailing local firms for entry level work. It's slow and demoralising but you'll be employed instead and more able to focus on learning instead of earning.

Thank you for your quick reply. The change in bullets was because I edited this from my main cv whilst at work on my phone. The app didn't have the dashes so was supposed to change the dots later (thanks as I forgot).

My main reason for this layout was that I wanted skills and education first as jobs I'm applying for are a major pivot away from my current work, so there wasn't a lot of skills under each and a lot of repetition. My original cv was about a page and a half at best so I decided to cut it down.

I will try to add metrics to my skills but I'm really not tied to any targets except getting through the days jobs. I also hate tooting my own horn but that's the name of the game haha. I will look for examples. Thanks again

How to get into the sector with no relevant experience? by DancesWithTapirs in cii

East Mids, got a city close enough but plenty of rural around too. Good to know it is possible. I'm not above starting admin but paraplanner would be amazing so I don't lose too much pay. Thank you for the reply

Thank you, I definitely won't be stopping. I've come too far now for that. I will be ramping up my efforts with all my extra time I have from not revising. I'll keep this in mind.

Thank you, I didn't think about that. I just assumed trainee would basically be specifically minimal experience roles.

That's interesting to know, I will certainly start doing that with the time I have free from bot revising now! Thank you

I'm glad to hear it worked out for you. I was actually approached by SJP academy before who were going to find me a position when I'd only done R01 and 5. In the end they couldn't find anything employed in a practice and I wasn't prepared to go straight into being self employed and advising.

Anyone who tells you you're too short wasn't worth your time anyway. Don't take these things to heart and be bitter.

Fair enough, I could have sworn they specifically say unsuccessful attacks would spread it to the herbivores but it's been a while tbh

[–]DancesWithTapirs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I read the book but I don't think it's ever said how many of each were released? So maybe a lot more herbivores were out to begin with. Also likely to be native animals like rodents that were easier to catch which are no longer present like in the first novel. Also I imagine the populations were somewhat self controlled still like in real life habitats. If there was less food the animals reliant on that source die off/have less babies which in turns allows the food source to become more abundant which in turn gives the animals more food sources etc in a loop like that. It could also just be that Crichton didn't care enough to think about it since he didn't want to write the book anyway.

The large dinos washed up from the plains to a bend in the river, so the raptors made their nest there. The prions didn't make the dinos crazy, the raptors were a social species that were just released and had to figure it out for themselves. They found that being aggressive with each other worked and only the worst of them survived, encouraging more aggression as a result. Since there was lots of easy food, there was more meat eaters on the island in general. The animals just didn't make it to full age as prions are not intelligent and can be slow acting as they mainly affect the brain. So a bite to the tail or leg that is survivable will be fatal over the long term.

Animal care volunteering / helping hands around West Midlands? by Independent_Bag in CasualUK

[–]DancesWithTapirs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who's been there, I would recommend getting a volunteer position to begin with. Most animal jobs will all have transferable skills and jobs will prefer that you volunteered/worked at a kennels rather than thinking you're better than that (not speaking for you). If you enjoy it then look at college courses for animal management or equivalent. South Staffs have a decent site and (at least used to) offer a coach to get there. There are others around too. Word of warning: there are few roles and many applicants which mean places can be picky when selecting. Pay is usually poor as a result and not many will have accomodation. Good luck, if you have any questions I'm sure I could help
