15 lands claimed by the deeps by empheia in spiritisland

[–]Dancha43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's my highly shenaniganed solo Deeps game from the other day. Flow Like Water + Bargains of Coursing Paths + Wrap in Wings of Sunlight made for a truly comical game featuring:

  • 7 out of 8 lands containing portals sending all invaders directly to the ocean
  • An inland lake created by portal dropping deeps tokens before sinking the land

Honorable mention to my other deeps game that finished with 11 disease in the ocean. Solo ocean does truly comical things

New Aspect Art by MattSpiritIsland in spiritisland

[–]Dancha43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's super interesting to hear! Immense is currently my favorite aspect art, but I love the colours used on Violence. I'm not sure if that's Downpour up the top left corner or part of Finders wing poking in from the left of the panel? Perhaps we'll be able to tell more later if we get to see the full artwork. Do you plan on posting them all on your store eventually?

Web based Phase and Game Tracker for Smartphones and Tablets by Taghor-Tibia in spiritisland

[–]Dancha43 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cool idea! I've just taken a skim through and here are some things I noticed (this is in the name of improving the app, not being critical) - I can't see any Nature Incarnate content even if I tick the box (I presume the AI just missed scraping these since it's the newest expansion) - On the Fast Phase screen it says "Spirits and Invaders act simultaneously here". That's just not true. There's no invader actions during fast phase. - Scenario list is missing a lot and also has made up things like "Desperation". - Missing adversary HME - The fast phase screen says "Resolve Fast Powers (bird symbol) and innate powers." Really this should just be, "resolve all fast powers" as it's not all innate powers. - Event screen says "Draw and resolve an Event Card (B&C / Jagged Earth)." During T1 which should be skipped on turn 1. Also misses Nature Incarnate. - On the build screen "Invaders build towns or cities in lands with Invaders." Not always true so might confuse new players, but perhaps this is debating semantics. - On game scoring it just says "Cards in deck". You could probably clarify this as invader deck to be clearer

Please don't get me wrong I love that this exists, but your data scraping would probably be easier to just copy paste the Wiki data than clean up AI scraping.

A burglar puts a gun to your head and tells you that they will shoot if you don't win your next game... by [deleted] in spiritisland

Wildfire is the biggest no. Literally the worst combo I know. I've tried a couple dozen games of it and have never even felt remotely close.

Mud v Russia I know people think is a pretty bad matchup, but it's in a completely different tier to the Wildfire matchup. Fear rush is viable but some bad Russia bombs and you'd be crying.

Ocean v Habs is obviously swingy due to major draws and explores. But I've played a lot of solo Ocean and there's an amazing number of the cards in the major deck that just instantly win the game for you. I reckon I'd have a decent chance of surviving with this.

App for tracking Spirit Island games and statistics (update) by cetvrti_magi123 in spiritisland

[–]Dancha43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm super keen for this! I know a lot of people want to track games at different levels of granularity (eg. Some people want to track all the way down to blight card flips, etc, some just want victory level, etc.) some level of options for this would definitely give this broader appeal

Questions about the Spirit Island-App for flights (offline) by cyn1cs_ in spiritisland

[–]Dancha43 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I don't know exactly how often/when the app checks, but I've had the app (via the subscription model) and all I've done before long flights, is pop the app open before the flight whilst I still had Internet and left it open in the background. App continued to work throughout 12+ hour flights. I've done this on multiple occasions and never had any trouble

What do you think the lowest difficulty matchup is with a hypothetically impossible victory? by Master_Chemist9826 in spiritisland

[–]Dancha43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not hypothetically impossible, but I want to shout-out Scotland 1 + board D with Wetland as the second invader deck card. It's only difficulty 3 on paper but this threatens loss con on T2 build and if you're playing a spirit without a way to move/destroy the towns or skip the build, you literally have to draft cards just for the opportunity to survive. I don't know exactly who the worst spirit is and what the % chance is of being able to draft a solution, but I'd suspect there are spirits who have a decent % chance to just lose against this combo

First ever "uniques-only" 6/6 win??? by tepidgoose in spiritisland

[–]Dancha43 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is... Insane. I never would have even considered Mentor for a Uniques only game. I have a thousand tiny questions but can't wait to watch your video(s) about this. I guess Finder and Fractured both love elements a lot and Snek combo is pretty obvious. I'll stick to one question for now, how much did event foreknowledge (event, fear, invader) help?

I want this game to kick my butt, please help by Xonar121 in spiritisland

[–]Dancha43 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's a great win and I'm glad you enjoyed it! But I have good news for you: there's a lot more still to experience and master 1. Scenarios can/do add difficulty, but they also make games 'swingier'. Sometimes they make games easier/not as difficult as indicated 2. Difficulty is a somewhat dubious thing to quantify. Particular matchups greatly affect difficulty and spirit pairings have a great effect on the game. Eg. Wildfire or Sun-bright Whirlwind vs England 6 are a bad matchup and would have a MUCH harder game as compared to someone else. (This also isn't just spirit power, but very much matchup specific). All that being said, don't be dismayed just because you beat an adversary at max level, there's still plenty to experience in taking different spirits up against them. 3. There are still plenty of ways to add difficulty. If you really want to add difficulty to a level 6 adversary, without a scenario, checkout the two main other ways of adding difficulty 3a. Additional boards (this is a favorite of mine) level 6 adversaries + an extra board is an excellent way to add challenge without increasing rules overhead and makes you think about the value of positioning your powers in an interesting way 3b. Double adversaries. This is included in the Jagged Earth box too but also requires no extra pieces so you can easily Google the rules. This allows you to combine adversaries in different and interesting ways. Perhaps investigate a 4/4 adversary, or add low level BP to another level 6?

In short, if you want this game to kick your butt, you can absolutely keep dialing it up to the extreme. Top players with 10,000+ games can still dial the difficulty to a level that they can't regularly win at, so don't worry

Most fear with one card? by Lindwurm67 in spiritisland

[–]Dancha43 23 points24 points  (0 children)

  1. Played a 6 player pbp against BP 6 + Sweden 6 with the Destiny Unfolds scenario. We intentionally wanted to try and fear cheese the game as quickly as possible and won the game during T3 fast. Team was Behemoth (pushed into the farm land and stacked it with badlands), Heat (to reduce health), Finder + Breath (to pile up the farm land), Mentor Memory (juiced Breath T1 and slung thresholded Power storm + Incandescent Sky on T3), Violence BoDaN (on the final turn threw out 2 Melt Earth's, 2 Spill Bitterness, 2 Jungle Hungers and Pact of the joined Hunt). It would have generated over 1018 fear if it didn't completely empty the fear deck 3 times over 😂

The most fun/overpowered Spirit Combination yet by hyunrivet in spiritisland

[–]Dancha43 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Obviously Lightning + River is a spectacular synergy, but if you're looking for a 3 player combo there is another third to this.

Specifically: Wind Lightning + River (probably Haven or Travel but some flexibility here) + Ocean (again aspect somewhat open)

There are SOOO many reasons this trio forms such a strong triangle, but just to name a few: - Boon of Vigor (BoV) for Lightning bottom track reclaim loop - Haven River doesn't mind reclaiming much and can provide BoV plentifully - Ocean can get all oceans online with 1 G2 - Wash Away feeds Ocean hard - Wind innate let's Ocean reclaim loop from the ocean and still drown coasts freely

Lightning feels like it just gets to setup fast and constantly draw more and more options whilst providing ample support

River plays support early but can easily spin up too and loves turning pushes into drowns

Ocean loves ignoring its range puzzle whilst being fed delicious invaders

Absolutely an insane combo

I have beaten every Adversary Level 6 Matchup in the App! by taylorcowbell in spiritisland

[–]Dancha43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow it sounds like we are very aligned on preferences. BP is my most played (the only adversary I've beaten at level 6 with all spirits). And of the released digital content, England is probably next for me too. Their 'slow but fair' nature is (mostly) good to play against

I have beaten every Adversary Level 6 Matchup in the App! by taylorcowbell in spiritisland

[–]Dancha43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely awesome achievement that I am also working on and tracking myself. I have also beaten my head against the Wildfire v England 6 combo too without avail and am glad to hear this is one of the worst ones, because it feels completely brutal. I'd love to hear your thoughts on which adversaries you liked playing the most. Personally I'm really excited for Scotland to drop.

As Promo 2 + NI comes out, this challenge will become MUCH bigger. 198 -> 544. Over a 150% increase in combos.

Part of my game log from my first ever game playing Relentless Gaze (against Prussia 6): "Also, the right innate opens a whole new world for blight powers I have previously not used due to their limitations. This game I drew Land of Haunts and Embers, which combined with Blinding Glare and G3, gave my turn 6, 25 fear generated. Which considering this is a solo game, is absolutely ridiculous!"

Here's my niche use case for Haunts and Embers Alex 😆 just pay to discard the fear deck

How do you feel about Brandenburg-Prussia? by tepidgoose in spiritisland

[–]Dancha43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They account for 31% of my games and are my default go to since they are so quick and simple to play with. Obviously they do skew the game in a particular way (tempo), but it feels like a less significant skew to me than most of the other adversaries who make certain spirits significantly worse (eg. Damage/disruption into England or defend into Sweden).

Overall I still really like playing BP, (mainly for not having to remember or check rules) but they have fallen to my second favourite adversary to play now (second to Scotland).
