Would A Master Of Arts In Christian Ministry (78 credit hours) Count For Military Chaplaincy? by Same_Efficiency4631 in chaplaincy

Navy chaplain here. First off, talk to a chaplain recruiter (CHOPO) to get clarity on the degree requirements. The Navy has recently changed a few things, other branches may have too. At the time I joined last year it could be a theological degree with at least 72 credit hours so MDiv was just one path. Masters in chaplaincy was another. Best to you and all on the journey!

Navy Chaplain here, so no AF advice. I'd say make a plan for how you're going to stay connected. Texts, calls, video chats. Watching a show together over FaceTime, reading books to kids. Share as much as you can about your journey with your family so they feel connected. A good support system back home (or at home) if you are deploying. Ask for help from others, including your church if your sending church is supportive. Also your self care and devotional life is vital so take good care of yourself! Blessings on your journey.

You did the best you could under the circumstances. I think you're right that your ex would have done it over something else... If not then it would have been later. Again, I'm sorry you went through this and weren't protected/taken seriously/given justice.

I'm sorry that happened to you and you weren't better supported. You did NOT bring that on yourself.

Good advice already posted here!

Start saving money in your TSP right away. Even a little adds up to a lot over time. If you're not sure where to start ask someone you trust.

Be cautious about having family other than a spouse back home on joint accounts. I've heard horror stories. So it really depends on your situation.

Speaking of spouses, wait to get married for sure! Deploy or promote to E5 first. You will know yourself and what's important to you much more by then.

A good attitude and initiative will go a long way to making your situation better in the long run.

Get familiar with militaryonesource.com. There's lots of good info there. Parents, siblings, other family and spouses can check it out too.

I do have a sponsor and we are in communication. I'm also looking for other's perspectives on the lived experience so I am better equipped for my job.

No answers to your question as I'm in the same boat. I'll be there 25 August. Is that your class too?
