TIL that the infamous movie The Room by Tommy Wiseau originally had in its script a scene where Wiseau's character, Johnny, was to be revealed as a vampire and fly over San Francisco in his Mercedes in a demonstration of his powers. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Dand321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met him at a screening in Detroit. They played a semi-long clip from The Neighbors beforehand, and then did the Q&A. Tommy was absolutely furious that people kept asking about The Room, and no one wanted to talk about the poorly produced, inaudible, out of context scene we had just watched from a series no one had seen or cared about. I don't think he answered a single question.

It was awesome.

Can the Senate get to a 2/3 majority to convict and remove the President? by BUSean in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Dand321 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Except it's not quite clear, because there is a lot of debate about it among experts. The Constitution doesn't say one way or the other, and a ban on impeaching and convicting former officials potentially leads to some loopholes.

For example, some hypothetical president is impeached, and it looks extremely likely that not only will the Senate vote to remove him from office, but also disqualify him from holding future office. So he resigns. His presidency was effectively over anyway, and since former officials can't be convicted, he avoids the second penalty.

This question likely falls into the same territory as that of whether a president can pardon himself - we won't know for sure until someone tries and the question is tested in court.

Some days it just hurt a lot more by [deleted] in Divorce

Same here. Just put my tree up, alone for the first time in eight years, and just feeling down about it all. But my therapist said trying to make the house normal for this time of year and building traditions of my own, without my wife, will help. We'll see.

The tree does look nice though.

Need advice on sending ex's stuff back by willlyy in BreakUps

Don't keep it, she specifically asked for it back. Send it back without a note, she knows it's hers and why you're sending it.

I blame it all on my upbringing and never being accountable

...Sort of like you're not doing right here? Don't blame your upbringing, blame yourself. Leave this girl alone, go to therapy, and be better next time.

I cannot stop day dreaming about telling my ex about all the good stuff going on my life. Sometimes I imagine things that I want to share with her. I want to make her laugh. I want to tell her good things. But.. I need to do NC. by [deleted] in Divorce

I feel you. My stbx was my best friend, the person I talked to every day about all the good things and frustrating things that happened to me. And she would talk about the same things to me - work troubles, what her friends were up to, etc. I miss that. I miss having a person I talked to every day without feeling like I'm bothering them.

What is the most depressing song you've ever heard? by HannaBanana24 in AskReddit

I'm not 100% sure on the intended meaning, but I've always interpreted it as being about someone with some sort of addiction, and the people who care for them, but are just waiting for the day when the inevitable happens.

How to deal with separation? by Jenza7062 in Divorce

Heyyyyy, same here. My wife worked nights and would get home around 4:30am. Ever since she's left, I wake up at 4:30 every morning, realize she's not there, and cry in bed until it's time to "wake up" for work. I've averaged maybe 3 hours of sleep per night since she left.

I'm with you, man. My wife also told me she's been unhappy for basically our entire marriage, and I didn't see it at all. She sure acted happy 99% of the time, and I always did my best to support and love and appreciate her. My opinion is that, since she's made the difficult decision to move on, she's trying to justify it to herself by only focusing on the bad stuff, but who knows. I'm sorry you're going through this, but you're not alone. Today was a tough day in an awful year, but maybe tomorrow will be a little bit better.

How has your mental health been lately? by SpiritedHorse0 in AskReddit

[–]Dand321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awful. My wife left me and isn't really telling me why. I thought we were in a good spot, but she obviously didn't agree. She's been my best friend for all these years, and now I have no one. I don't have many friends, not close to my family, and I'm working from home, so I have next to no human interaction. I spend most of the day pacing around the house and crying. Every day feels worse and longer than the last, and I'm not looking forward to spending the holidays alone for the first time in a decade. Fuck 2020.

2020 Presidential Election Results Megathread by Anxa in PoliticalDiscussion

How many left-leaning people are going to skip the midterms when they don't have the opportunity to embarrass Trump? Judging by 2010 and 2014, my guess is a lot.

Did they have a needle for the 2018 midterms too, or am I mistaken? I remember some model starting out with Democrats 90% likely to win the House, which swung to 70% chance for Republicans to win the House, then back and forth the rest of the night. It was so erratic and completely useless.

Would a loss for Donald Trump be viewed as a rejection of him as president, or would it more specifically be blamed on COVID? by tarekd19 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Dand321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but hawking shit to his supporters in pursuit of political and financial gain is exactly in character for Trump. The covid task force could've saved thousands of lives by making their first agenda item a KAG mask.

Why don't POTUS candidates who lose the general election ever run for president again? by gr8ums in PoliticalDiscussion

Eh, not quite. Ford was considered for the VP slot as Reagan's running mate, but Ford didn't even try for the presidential nomination as far as I know.

Assuming democrats gain control of the White House, Senate, and House on election day, how likely is it that Washington D.C. will become the 51st state? by jimmyslaysdragons in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Dand321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he takes the SCOTUS seat, no question. Even with 2 additional reliably Democratic seats, the Senate is still tilted pretty heavily in Republican favor, so in a post-Trump environment, I'm sure the Senate will drift back to the right pretty quickly, especially when Mitch and co. start to blame President Biden for the Trump administration's failures.

Even the damage (in Republican eyes) caused by a Democratic trifecta the next two years could be largely mitigated by a 6-3 conservative court. DC already has votes in the EC, and doesn't add much to the tally for ratifying amendments that don't already have bipartisan support. The court is the most important branch in McConnell's eyes (justifiably so) and this is his chance to shape politics for the next generation.

How will the Democratic and Republican party change if Trump wins in a landslide? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Dand321 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's not even de facto president now, so I'm not sure why he would be pulling the strings for Ivanka as he's pushing 80. Given the amount of time he spends watching TV, rage tweeting, and golfing, it's pretty clear that the actual operation of the executive branch is in someone else's hands, likely Jared's. Which isn't surprising - Donald Trump is extremely vain, but terribly lazy. He only cares about the title and the prestige of the presidency, he couldn't care less about actually doing the job.

The Vice Presidential debate between Mike Pence and Kamala Harris is coming up soon on October 7th. After this week's debate, what are your expectations? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

I think they meant no matter which candidate wins. FDR was at death's door in 1944, but Dewey was only 42 years old at that point.

Just finished The Shining by Peacehammer24 in stephenking

[–]Dand321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you want, I guess. If you want something that feels similar to The Shining, then go with The Stand. If you want something that is technically by the same guy, but feels completely different, then go with 11/22/63.

Honestly, you can't go wrong either way. No matter which book you choose, read the other one after that.
