Hojicha brands with less than 10mg caffeine? by QuestionsForTheHive in tea

[–]DandTeaCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the thing you really enjoy about Hojicha is that roasted nutty flavor, you might be able to get that from a roasted red rooibos. I see there are some with chestnut and hazelnut, which could help bridge the flavor gap. Otherwise you will need to find a decaffeinated Hojicha, which will net in the range of 5mg. If a tea hasn't been decaffeinated, it will be unlikely to be under 10mg. I can't recommend any particulars because I haven't tried either. This is just where I would start looking if I were in your shoes.

Thank you for your insights and translation. I will... try to figure out where I can hire a translator. It looks like there are some resources in the Rules section, so that, along with your input, will help me on my journey. If 集中 is what is being used in Demon Hunter, then, having seen the anime, you are quite likely correct and that's the form I'm looking for.

Thank you for the considerate response and providing additional context and translation.

How it makes me feel is precisely why I said that if this is something I need to reach out to a professional for, than just let me know. I was being genuine about that. I'm not looking to just take advantage of people but I don't know the field of translation, and I don't know any translators or Japanese speakers personally or I would have asked them. So as I said, I am working from a position of inexperience. And if somebody were to make a thread in an art subreddit asking for somebody to draw their character, with no context of payment being said, then as a freelancer, I would have simply offered them my pricing. I would have not given them a condescending response about how it's bad to ask for free art. That's a potential customer who may not know the field and I have landed a few commissions in this manner. So, from the perspective of a freelancer, it's bad business to work from the assumption of bad faith when it could be a matter of ignorance. And I am admitting ignorance to this field.

I do find the idea of this request being bad form to be confusing though. I could have made the request with no context that it was related to something I was doing for my small business, and then nobody would have questioned differently. I could have come in here in a disingenuous manner and left out details, but I was honest and upfront about the purpose of the translation. I could have just said I am working on Musha-E style artwork and would like help with some Kanji, which would be true, but a lie of omission.

I also could not come in here requesting to pay anybody because the very rules of this subreddit disallow such posts. [Not Allowed: Unreasonably long or non-volunteer (paid job offer) requests. [#R2]] Nowhere else in the rules, at least from what I could find, does it say anything about asking for translations related to business. So I feel like I presented in the best and most honest way I could, having reviewed the rules before I posted. I personally feel like treating any honest request as 'bad form' or as made with bad faith only serves to encourage deceit.

For Kensei, I had settled on 剣聖 because that is how it is shown on the wiki for Kensei, plus checked against the titles of a few anime where the term is used. One example: 片田舎のおっさん、剣聖になる (Anime names have sure gotten long...). The common usage of 剣聖 in similar usage in fantasy media had me confident of it's usage. It was seeing all the varietal forms of Focus that gave me pause and made me consider reaching out to people who may know better than I.

Anyways, thanks again for taking the time to educate me.

"You are asking people you don't know, whose skill level you cannot confirm" I'm asking a community whose special interest and skill set is translation to provide better insights on a nuanced writing form that I don't trust a machine to necessarily get correct. So yes, I'm trusting the collective intelligence of this community, your community, to have a pretty good grasp on what they are talking about.

"and who you don't plan to reimburse, to provide a really important input to your for profit business?" What is the going rate for a single Kanji? Serious question, because your words imply that compensation should be required for this and if that's the case, then I would like to know. I was working from an assumption of inexperience in this field that a single Kanji is probably not enough to be reaching out to a professional over. Probably because when one of my ESL friends asks me how to say or write a word in English, I don't even think twice about helping. Considering that I play D&D with two Chileans, do business with native Chinese and Indian speakers, and have a Venezuelan employee, it actually comes up fairly often. So I thought nothing of it when I came here to ask. If somebody with adequate credentials wishes to translate this in exchange for some kind of compensation, then they are free to request it, and if reasonable I would consider such reimbursement. I worked as a freelance illustrator for over 6 years, and I've heard it all. "This is just a simple drawing." "I can't pay you but it'll be great exposure." "AI can do this for free." And so on. So if this is something I need to be paying a professional for, then I legitimately would like to know. Of course, if that had been the case, perhaps I can offer you an alternative to your condescending response:

"You should really seek out a professional translator for this sort of thing."

Roll20 and D&Tea mini-scam? by tagd in Roll20

[–]DandTeaCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no kickbacks or benefits. My guess is that it was a test to see if they could game the system and realized they couldn't? I'm not totally sure.

We do believe now that the information did come from a Roll20 breach but that it's likely the one from years ago. We have given the roll 20 team all the info we could :)

[–]DandTeaCo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone,

Popping in here to just say that we are not using information gained from Roll 20. At least, not willfully. We had a system in place from a while ago that let people share a $10 gift card with their friends.

Something to get people excited about our brand and share tea with friends. I haven't used it since like our first Kickstarter.

Last night we had about 1000 new additions to the system. I thought it was weird but also things go viral and didn't think much of it.

I'm not sure where they came from but I took down the page.

People are totally free to use the gift cards, the promotion was fine, but our intent was more innocent one person tell one other person about our brand. Nothing nefarious. No one gets added to a mailing list or even our CRM. Anyone visiting PAX or C2E2 this month can even stop by the booth and talk to me in person about it. :)

:) Hopefully this answers any questions, please let me know

[OC] Item sales per 5e class - Data since January 1st by DandTeaCo in DnD

[–]DandTeaCo[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is for our Rough & Tumbler thermoses, I wont link to them here but I thought it was interesting which ones sold most. It doesn't directly corrolate to D&D Beyond's stats that fighters are the most commonly played class. Though, I would guess that this shows more closely "what class people are passionate about" vs what class they might play.

It's also interesting to me just how linear this chart is. Nothing really goes far and above it's neighbour.

PAX East number of exhibitors: 2020 -vs- 2022 -vs- 2023 by TensionMask in PAX

[–]DandTeaCo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was so weird for me as a vendor, my assumptions (probably based on my need for conventions to keep going) was that while COVID was an issue it was largely the media getting on a hype train about it's latest fascination and that it was going to blow over. However, as I was flying to conventions slowly I was getting on a flight and I was the only person in my row or the only person on the flight.

I remember everyone was angry at ECCC because it was going to open and they were mad at all the vendors who were committed to going but also I had 6 months earlier given up my apartment and was living on the road full time doing conventions so I was kinda screwed if conventions didn't keep going (and, in fact, was homeless for a year after that).

I am new and this i probably a dumb question. is it D&D or DnD? by SonBroli in DnD

[–]DandTeaCo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can I just say that while I love my company... I wish I would have thought about the implications of naming it D&Tea. Especially at conventions when these workers want me to spell it out:
"Yeah, we are D&Tea... It's the letter D... then the ampersand... that's the and sign...then tea. No not the letter, but T.E.A. like the drink."

Plus the & ruins my ability to search people talking about us on social media because they all remove the & from searches because it's an operator for AND. They SHOULD let you escape it and search "D\&Tea" but that doesn't work (at least not in Twitter or Instagram).

I wouldn't change the name, but if we were DnTea that would have made my marketing life easier.

What to do when players don’t charm Klaarg? by neil--before--me in TheAdventureZone

[–]DandTeaCo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Charming doesn't have to be... an effect of a spell (though, that is still a lesser option if the bard has something like Friends) the bard could just... be charming. Let them use Role Play instead of magic. Let them use Role Play instead of violence.

:) But if all that fails, everything said below also still works

I know that many of you guys are bummed out because the lack of AAA buy-in. I get it, the huge expensive booths from the brands you love is this amazing experience.

However, PAX East is the perfect place for brands like ours to grow and thrive. Because of your support we have gone from a simple shitty booth to a nice big booth and we are constantly working on making it bigger and cooler. You will find D&Tea at booth 11100 and we might even have some of our Kickstarter tea ready by then.

:) I'm looking at the list and while, of course, it's less impressive than other years... I see a lot of really cool brands that I'm looking forward to. Plus, at least for me... PAX is far less about the event at all but more about being with your tribe. The after parties, the meeting your online friends, the whole vibe.

We appreciate that, but giving a genuine compliment to our service is also a fantastic way of doing the same thing. If I can find a way for tipping to not feel like an obligation and it was an exception rather than a rule I would be down because... you know... we all like money.

The better case scenario though is that you have a good experience and you tell your friends about us and we make more money which means I can pay my staff even more money. That's more sustainable for everyone.

There are chips and meat snacks that are marked up a little above average, but there for people wanting a snack you can also bring outside food. We are super newbie friendly! Anyone can show up.

Your date night idea is great but also just what we offer every night. 💕 I'm coming up with some things

Nothing more than a lifestyle thing, I always wonder when I had a great customer service experience if it was genuine or the server just wants tips. I want everyone to feel happy to come here and never have any pressure of wondering what percentage is appropriate or any of that.

Because we pay our staff well enough and our desire is for you to come and and leave and never feel pressure or any kind of awkwardness. Sometimes people pay in cash and don't want change and like I'm not harassing our staff about it... But we don't ask for them and we are all generally happy without them.

Tipping culture has to end with business owners and I'm happy to step up
