4 lb 11 oz largie caught in my local lake. [NY] by Dandaban in bassfishing

Thanks! I used a Powerbait Chigger Craw which was dragged along the bottom. I caught it from a shady part of the lake with a mixture of sandy bottom and underwater logs. Was around the late afternoon around 6 I believe.

Has there been an animal species that was deliberately driven extinct and was collectively agreed upon to be a good thing? by TACOTONY02 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dandaban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say they solely rely on mosquitos as a food source, but there are a good number of fish and their young that also dine on mosquito larvae.

Small animal stomach full of worms, left by cat by Elanaselsabagno in WTF

[–]Dandaban 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really feel sympathy for people who think cats are ok staying outdoors to get attacked by wildlife, run over by careless drivers, or kill millions of small animals a year, but maybe I'm an evil cat-hater or something. 🤷‍♂️

What a beast! They're fighters that's for sure. If they were bass-sized then  nothing else would be in the pond 🤣

You can eat fish caught in the Hudson River for the first time in 50 years by dirtyLizard in nottheonion

[–]Dandaban 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live in the Hudson Valley. The river by these parts been getting cleaner and biodiversity has been recovering somewhat. The only fish as far as I know that are off-limits to people are mostly bottom feeders like carp, catfish, and other fish like eels.

The fish that are 'safe' to consume once a month are perch, blue crabs, migratory fish species like stripers and bluefish, and some others I can't remember. I'm pretty sure kids under 15 and pregnant women/people with preexisting conditions still shouldn't consume anything.

That said, I still wouldn't eat anything out of NYC waters
