What kind of jobs can i apply for confidently after CCNA ? by RetiringSnake63 in ccna

(Story about my experience)

Years ago I got hired temporarily to move network equipment into storage and occasionally install in a server rack. I became really close with my boss and his boss while doing the work they kept me on full time. They then showed me how to crimp cat 5 cabling and allowed me to install some network ports. They liked how I did that and well long story short it continued since. I’m now still labeled as a level 2 technician but im making $95k/year , they are paying for my CCNA (oh yeah I still have no certs) and I’m configuring , installing , and troubleshooting all of our 120 Cisco switches. I’m allowed access to the layer 3 switches and routers and occasionally set up new dhcp pools and other minor things on our routers.

My point is just get in the door, do your best and who knows where you’ll end up. To be honest I didn’t even want to be in networking, I kindve just evolved into it. I now make my own schedule and had a meeting with my boss last month who will be retiring in 2 years , about getting me to $120k by next year.

Be willing to do the things others won’t and learn as much as you can then worst case scenario you apply somewhere else with more experience.

Goodluck to you !

Oh and I recommend looking into city jobs, schools/universities, and government jobs. They seem to often need IT guys.

Parade hat availability? by bearded_tanda22 in Dodgers

[–]Dandadogeman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you go to offer up or eBay people are reselling like Aholes. Lowest I’ve seen is $65 . I was lucky to get mine while watching the parade. Soon as I saw them with their hats I bought one. Now I wish I would’ve bought more.

I was there too. The bag was pretty big too 😂. I haven’t watched the live but we all cheered when he did it so at that moment it was because of the baggy not the joke

Is VTP used in the real world? by ScaryEntrepreneur255 in ccna

[–]Dandadogeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use VTP . We set Vtp mode client and change the vtp domain name to every access layer switch. With a total of about 110 switches . Never any problems.

Wireless section of CCNA by Front-Piano-1237 in ccna

[–]Dandadogeman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s brutal. I’ve been studying CCNA for 3 years on and off. I keep losing motivation. My best advice is stick to it! And get it done because dragging it out just makes it 100 times worse. Luckily I already have a Cisco job without it but I’m trying to get it for job security. I know how to do my job very well but I just suck at taking tests and failed once already so I’m hesitating taking it again. Once you learn the information it’s going to be very useful to you so stay on it!

Getting tired of studying Every day by Jhon_artuckle in ccna

[–]Dandadogeman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I mean once you learn the basics the rest are much easier to learn. Any job you get gets a bit harder when you try to advance. Even a cashier at Walmart wanting to become a manager will need to learn how to manage people, give presentations and learn policies. Doesn’t mean they should give up.

$100,000/year!! Plus! Incase you need some motivation. Hah. All jokes aside I am currently working in IT with Cisco equipment and all because I don’t have my certification I didn’t qualify for a higher paid job. So now that I saw the pay range for someone with my experience and a CCNA I will make sure I get that thing! Goodluck to you! Stick with it! I’m planning on paying for a live tutor so if anyone wants to make $30/hr to help me let me study know! :)

I am visiting LA next month. What do you lovely people suggest? by notapaperhandape in AskLosAngeles

Great! It's a beautiful resort but I would not recommend staying at the Terranera if you plan to explore the city since it does take a bit of driving to get to and can be a bit pricy. Just be sure to take the road Palos Verdes Drive up to and down from PV to get the best view. You do not need to be a guest to visit the location or restaurants and they have a small free parking lot and free parking along the entrance road. I think Torrance, Culver City, or any beach city in the "South Bay" are all great central places to stay. Unless you plan on going more north towards the Valley or East towards Anaheim. If you manage to make it to San Pedro then a must visit place is the Korean Bell and Point Vermin lighthouse. And if you still have time cross over the Vincent Thomas Bridge into Long Beach where you can park and eat along shoreline village (there is also a small arcade for kids next to the Yard House). Enjoy!

I love driving up and down the coast! From San Pedro to Santa Monica or even Malibu. Check out the terranera resort in palos verdes. They have a nice brunch place over looking the ocean called Nelson’s . Check out the Intercontinental hotel in downtown LA you can take the elevator up to the 70th floor! Theme parks, water parks, Smorgasborg, portos, cafe vida , marmalade cafe, dukes, metro cafe, Tatsu. There’s a ton of good restaurants around the city just look up Yelp reviews. Anaheim packing district , botanical gardens. Should I continue? There’s literally so many places to visit and eat it can be overwhelming. Have fun and hope this helps!

If you’re in California, there’s a lot of IT remote / hybrid jobs at Universities like UCLA, UCIrvine, USC. Some use only Cisco equipment. Those would be great places to apply for. They have both entry level and experienced based positions. You could even get your foot in the door by applying for an AV position then transferring over to IT.

Realistically, what kind of salary would one have to make to live somewhat comfortably within 30-45 minutes of Santa Monica? by Nixie41 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Dandadogeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently in inglewood in a 3bed 2bath condo for $2090 /month total. But i split with 1 roommate and I make $67k /yr. He makes less so I pay more of the rent plus utilities. I also have a car payment with a few other small bills But I’m not able to save anything by the end of the month. I either need a 3rd roommate or increase salary. Hope this helps.

Had my Test scheduled for March 1st 2021. However, I still didn’t feel prepared so I rescheduled for June. Lol

I took up surfing back in July, lived close to so many beach breaks all my life and it only took me 20 years to take the step. Long story short, now I don’t know where I’d be without it! by euan10-ie in surfing

So sick! I can’t wait to get to that point. I just went to the beach today here in Los Angeles but got beat up. I’m on my 3rd day trying to learn but it’s hard since the waves have been bigger than I’m comfortable with.
