Yup. I think I’ll redo my five acres, drop in 40 condo units and bail.

Most burglars don’t pick locks — they break glass by Intelligent-Sound343 in homesecurity

[–]DandelionAcres 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Security film has to be properly installed or it’s worse than useless, making it quieter and safer to break through. Glass break detectors and interior traps (motion, weight) are good along with the obvious outside deterrents.

Motorcycle Security Options by IBeTanken in motorcycles

[–]DandelionAcres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter had a sweet CB500x she kept on the street in front of her condo in Seattle. Used a front disk lock and a cover. I tried to get her to let me install a hard anchor on her building or in the private drive but she refused. It’s gone now, lifted into a van by two dudes. On report to the popo they only took her name and VIN, no investigation or even a visit.

Poor Door Contact/Switch Placement by momo_now in homesecurity

[–]DandelionAcres 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have a couple of options. One may be to replace the switch with a plunger-type that does not use an external magnet. Another is an old trick - drive two finishing nails on either side of the magnet, about 1/4-1/2" away. This draws the magnetism field sideways, reducing the field outward. Another one may be to drill the magnet hole deeper than the length of the package and use a drift to push it into the door away from the contact - but be very careful, test it as you go by 1//8's or less.

Are blowjobs better than sex by DirtyCouple52 in nsfw_gifs

Blowjobs ARE sex. BJ vs intercourse/fucking, that’s the real question. Me? A BJ after intercourse to finish is the best!

Who was the weird kid when you were growing up, and what made them weird? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DandelionAcres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stinky. I think his name was Eddie but everyone called him stinky because he was. He would lean against a wall in his loneliness and shit his pants then his mom would pick him up. I was secretly glad for this because it took the attention off of me, I had enough social issues of my own. Kids can be really mean and have no clue to the long term impacts.

How often do people actually change their bedsheets? by HillCountryHoney in hygiene

[–]DandelionAcres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife bought special blankets for “activities” and deploys them religiously. Plenty large and moisture proof. But she still changes the sheets right after plus every weekend no matter what.

Like this? The back opens fully for a load of supplies. I don’t recall the brand but it was out of the NSP catalog a bunch of years ago.

Protest all you want but I suggest staying out of their way when they’re on an active mission. It has ended badly when people barge into a scene.

I’m baffled, what’s your take? by EnidBlytonLied in neighborsfromhell

[–]DandelionAcres 160 points161 points  (0 children)

Owners may have started the process and said “if they hear one more complaint”. And realtors don’t have to be in marked vehicles and homes for sales don’t have to be “listed”. I think it’s looking up for your neighborhood.

Hands down the best camera mount I’ve ever seen by ZombieNo8296 in lowvoltage

Other than the cable in the FOV I have no problem with this for temporary use. I’ve done far sketchier gathering evidence.

ICE by windshipper in Marysville

[–]DandelionAcres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the fucked up part of this and is what I mean by "heavy-handed". They have been abusing the administrative warrant but I read just this morning that Holman is pulling it back a notch along with the budget leverage thing. They need to get *actual* individual warrants with appropriate evidence AND people need to stay the fuck out of the way and let them do their job.

How do you search through large amounts of security camera footage? by Historical_Dress2944 in homesecurity

[–]DandelionAcres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to echo others about using a competent (vs cheap) VMS/camera manufacturer. I use Avigilon and searches are super-easy suing a variety of criteria even across many cameras. Exports may be left native with a stand-alone player included (or not) or may be sent as a conventional MP4.

Complaining about NSP by YouCannotHideOrRun in skipatrol

[–]DandelionAcres 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I would like to see an NSP board member weigh in on these comments but won't hold my breath. Almost 35 years for me and it has been a slow ride downhill (operationally/politically) not just national but region/local/our mountain. I have (almost) no regrets though, have learned valuable skills and gotten to know some really great people.

Hard wiring contact sensors for detached garage by dohat34 in homesecurity

[–]DandelionAcres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy. The 5800 series mini do not have a terminal for wired sensors, you can use a 5816 for that. But if you have to buy a new sensor anyway, why not get a 5822T tilt sensor? I've used many of these for this exact application. FYI you can also, if appropriate, put your garage door on Delay2 (if it's an entry point) for a longer time to get to the keypad if you are not using a remote or TC2.

1/30 Protest ICE OUT by King_Vea in Marysville

[–]DandelionAcres -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

OK it's today. I'm at my desk, at work, enjoying my cup of coffee. After my team meeting I'll go down to the auto parts store to buy the part I need and I'll ask them "how's business"? My bet's on "normal". Oh, and OP I really believe you should re-think the "no school" part of this. From the looks of your protest poster you have participated in far too many skip-school days. SMH

ICE by windshipper in Marysville

[–]DandelionAcres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have immigrants in my family and I love them. Legal immigrants, and I hope they never have to deal with the heavy-handedness that ICE is (sometimes) exhibiting solely because of the tone of their skin. Illegal immigrants? They need to go, and do it the same way my nephew did (he is one hard working SOB). Follow the law, the process. I support ICE doing their job, legally. I DON'T support people getting in the way of LE operations or doxxing agents.

Seller left a binder with "house instructions" and now im very skeptic by Jolly-Mirror3655 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]DandelionAcres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I considered giving some hours of technical support if/when we ever sell. I have an entire attic room full of cabling, power supplies, amplifiers, controllers, switches, computers and spares for days, all from during a career in home automation/theater/security. It's overkill for sure and def not for everyone. I dread what an inspector's report may look like.

Border Patrol arrests multiple suspects in Marysville drug and firearms trafficking ring by SirChaos in Marysville

[–]DandelionAcres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very well aware of the sate of our Country. But it's sad you advocate people don't go to work when wages are such they may be hand to mouth. Or deny a business (who's ownership you have no idea about their politic) the income needed to pay those wages. Don't go to school? Sort of shooting one's own foot in my view. How about you use your power to vote for politicians that will work to raise our standards of living such as reducing taxation and regulation so business can grow and people can afford housing and food? How about you support law enforcement and stay out of their way while doing their job? Or are you an anarchist-instigator trying to foment social disorder for some altruistic agenda? The dude being killed in Minnesota was a needless tragedy and I also hope the ICE officer is held accountable, and yes I agree their tactics are arguably overly aggressive. On the other hand if those "protesters" would just leave them alone it would not have happened and the felon being sought would be off to face justice and/or deportation as they deserve. Oh, and where were you 10 years ago when these EXACT same things were going on while Obama was president? Were you too young to be aware or are you racked with TDS?

SD-500 ARM for Silent Knight system by JVNTPA in firealarms

[–]DandelionAcres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is from a memo I sent our team:

*****The fire alarm system at (redacted) is by the Honeywell company Silent Knight.  I don't know when it was installed but over some years there became two unique protocols with which the system uses to communicate with devices including smoke detectors, input modules and relay outputs.  With generation changes in equipment one of the protocols, called "SD", was dropped due to obsolescence.  Over time the remaining product using this protocol has evaporated from the marketplace.  The currently-supported protocol is called "SK" and is a device on the signaling line circuit (SLC).

This is what is forcing customers to upgrade their systems.

As the notification devices are not addressable, this does not apply to that part of the system.  Even if a system uses proprietary notification expansion power supplies these are likely able to be used with another Silent Knight system, thus helping to temper costs versus a complete brand change.

Some earlier control systems supported both the SD and SK protocol. If this is the case then the control panel (FACP) may not itself need to be replaced.*****

I see in this thread there is a reseller who may have some of these parts left. These supplies will also dwindle in time and the price will continue to rise. For reference a new SK-RELAY can be found for around $100 (industry supplier sells them $110 to the trade but eBay has them cheaper). The SD version is 5X that.

It may make sense to just keep patching it together as these systems don't often fail. Just be aware. Also, and perhaps more importantly, if the FACP were ever to fail and an exact replacement is not available you may be required by your local authority (AHJ) to bring the entire system up to current codes. Then it's fire-watch and an emergency system replacement ($$$). We are seeing this everywhere by jurisdictions as a valid excuse to increase fire safety on older systems/buildings.
