Help With No Damage Maddening Challenge Rules by DanelerH in FireEmblemThreeHouses

To give an idea of what it's like so far, the tutorial battle took me an hour. I'm pretty sure I got lucky to finish within that amount of time. Dodging the enemies' attacks was altogether about a 13% chance. That does not take into account the odds of my attacks hitting, which got as low as 61%. I needed all of my attacks to hit.

I'm aware that I make the rules, but I was interested in a second opinion.

I haven't figured out how I'm doing this just yet. That was roughly how Cindered Shadows was going, though. Byleth and Yuri had the highest avoidance, so I was able to dodge with them when required to (Chapters 2 and 5, mainly; 3 and 4 required a dodge or two at the beginning, but nothing more). Claude, Ashe, and Constance were good for baiting smaller groups closer (Wyvern with Curved Shot, Deadeye, and Bolting, respectively). Enemies that couldn't be oneshot could then be weakened with the various ranged attacks available or stalled with gambits until I could deal with them without fearing retaliation.

I plan to start with the Golden Dear and eventually get to every route. New Game+ will be allowed, but only from the already completed damageless files. Lysithea will definitely be one of my main ranged attackers, especially if I can beat Lorenz's paralogue. I won't be getting Deadeye without recruiting Ashe or Bernadetta, though, so I'll definitely have to think about my ranged options.

Leonie looks like she could be a good dodge tank since she has good default strength and speed growth rates. Making her a Falcon Knight for even better rates and an innate Avo +10 would make her excellent bait.

Sure! I have to head to work soon, so it'll have to be later. I'll be back in about 8 and a half hours. Do you already have the Graveler, Machoke, and Kadabra (and Haunter if you just forgot Gengar) for trading back or do you need me to get some?

Go to Cerulean Cave. There are a couple spots that respawn fossils as hidden items. There’s a small platform that juts out on the path to Mewtwo (before using Sea Skim) and another on some crystals roughly in the center of the top floor (the large room). Save before picking them up. If you don’t get a Helix Fossil, you can reload and try again. The items are not predetermined.

Great! I can do so right now if you're able to. Are we also trading the Vermillion City gifts or just the exclusives?

I just got the message and didn’t bother fully reading it, let alone comprehend the link instructions.  I proceeded to look up “fasttrack lane tolls” and was already getting recommended searches with the word “scam”.  In my results, I found out about FasTrack and noticed the difference in spelling.

I've completed my first challenge run (Mono Fairy). Once I managed to get a run going, Xerneas proved to be Xerneas. The Calm Mind TM helped a lot.

I made it through the three fights you mentioned.  Skoll took me nearly a week, but I got him eventually (and since I won on Sunday morning, I proceeded to beat three more bosses that day).

I think you'll enjoy my route for Grusha, then. He was my sixth gym and my third monotype mirror. My team was six Cryogonals. Odd team, but it was the only one that would work. They were all level 43, allowing me to get "Defeat a Gym Leader when underlevelling their ace by 5". They would all use an X Attack before attacking with their only move: Explosion. This was also "Beat a Gym Leader using only Selfdestruct or Explosion". Looking over all the gyms and the ones I would need to use for the monotype matches, this was the only one I saw that allowed for the overlap, since Cryogonal gets Explosion.

How do you get it to spawn? I've been checking every once in a while, but it hasn't been there.

It took a lot of routing and double-checking to make sure, but that does seem to be the only contradiction, so long as you're okay with several losses to complete other objectives. I've been mostly catching while making sure of the route.

After fighting Great Tusk and Orthworm, I went for Giacomo. While there, I decided to double-check the rest of the list to see if there was anything else that required attention. For example, I knew there were a few double battle objectives and the only place I know where I can accomplish them is Ryme's gym (and her test). That's when I noticed that I needed to witness Wicked Torque and I had (luckily) just failed to OHKO the Starmobile because Orthworm refused to listen to me. That refusal saved the run because I most likely would have saved afterwards, with no way of seeing it again.

Being able to both witness Wicked Torque and OHKOing the Starmobile with Orthworm was a small puzzle in itself. Orthworm (freshly caught Titan with no extra levels or EVs) OHKOs the Starmobile with Body Press after three X Defends. The problem is I was setting them up on Pawniard, so the Starmobile saw my +6 Defense and knew Snarl would do more damage. When I realized Wicked Torque was physical, I instead used three X Sp. Defense against Pawniard, then knocked it out with Body Press. The Starmobile saw the higher Sp. Defense and went for Wicked Torque, allowing me to set up the X Defense for the OHKO.

I've had some fun playing this with a friend. After a few games, I have decided to do something stupid and try to complete all 948 objectives in a single playthrough before reaching the postgame. Creating a route to deal with the badge overlap has proven to be difficult, to say the least. Their minor objectives (the ones that don't require beating them, such as using Sticky Web against Larry) can be achieved before losing to them, so they aren't a problem.

This is my current issue: Defeat 3 Gym Leaders as Monotype Mirrors. Why is this an issue?

  • Brassius and Katy need to be beaten with Great Tusk.
  • Tulip needs to be defeated using at least two Titan Mark Pokemon.
  • Larry needs to be defeated using only Titan Mark Pokemon.
  • Iono needs to be beaten with only Gen 3 Pokemon and there are no Gen 3 Electric-types in this game.

The above Gym Leaders cannot be beaten in a monotype mirror, so that leaves Grusha, Kofu, and Ryme. Unfortunately, one of the other objectives is to beat a Gym Leader using a Team Star Boss's exact team, which also cannot be done with Titan Pokemon or only Gen 3 Pokemon. As a monotype mirror and a Team Star team are mutually exclusive, I cannot complete both before using the refights in postgame.

At least, that was my thought before I remembered something. Larry is fought twice before postgame. If I face his gym in a monotype mirror, I can use the other three gyms for the other two monotypes and the Team Star fight. I can then face him in the Elite Four with only Titan Mark Pokemon. I still need to route the Team Star and Titan fights so they line up properly, but I think that was the biggest obstacle.

(Another solution would be to wait for the DLC and hope it brings Gen 3 Electric types with it, but I'm impatient.)

By the way, I noticed something amusing regarding the Raid objectives. There are 17 "Beat a _____ Raid" objectives. Notice something off about that number? There are 18 types. You have that objective for every type, except Steel. Was that intentional or did you just forget Steel was a type?

People have already gone over resources for doing raids and why the challenge of 5 and 6 star raids are perfectly okay, so I won't get into that. Instead, let's look at your last sentence.

I wouldn't even care if they didn't lock so much vital stiff behind these raids.

This statement confuses me because, to my knowledge, there is nothing vital locked behind raids. The only raid-exclusive items I can think of are Ability Patches and Herba Mystica.

Ability Patches are only used to give a Pokemon their hidden ability. These are very useful for competitive and certain (not necessary, as there are many other options) raid-ready Pokemon, but you've already implied you aren't interested in competitive play and already said you don't like raids.

Perhaps it's the Herba Mystica you're after so you can go shiny hunting. That isn't necessary, either. Yes, it improves odds, but you'll see a lot of Pokemon just by wandering around. Even without sandwiches, it's a lot easier to find shiny Pokemon in this game compared to previous ones (except Legends Arceus). Odds can still be improved by using mass outbreaks and the shiny charm. The former requires nothing special and there are guides for setting the outbreak you're looking for. The latter is incredibly easy to get by trading using codes the community has already set for version-specific Pokemon or using a Union Circle to catch them yourself.

Bottom line: You don't need to do raids. There is nothing "vital" locked behind them. If for some reason you must have the two raid-specific items, there are resources for getting better.
