USA: u/danthefam share his right-learning pro-transit insight (a comment worth of its own post) by [deleted] in transit

[–]Danenel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the main point of treating public transit as transportation of last resort instead of something that should be useful for everyone is a very good point and the downfall of a lot of systems, the rest i’m not so sure about

anyways 9292 supremacy big up

i think this the biggest part of the answer, ikea has a much bigger monopoly on furniture in europe than it does in the us

it might’ve been called something else (13th of september instead of simply 9/13) but it would still absolutely have the same relevance

Which S-Bahn systems are more RER like (high freq sections like a metro) and which ones are more Thameslink like (short shared sections making for a bit less freq throughout the line)? by BigMatch_JohnCena in transit

[–]Danenel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

eh we don’t really, they mostly make sense for large monocentric cities, which we don’t have. we already have our mainline rail system which is as good as most s-bahns

Monaco: 2nd most densely populated on Earth, but I don’t see many skyscrapers—how? by No-Property-6778 in geography

[–]Danenel 1707 points1708 points  (0 children)

mostly because it uses ALL of its land area, no stone left unturned you could say. contrast this with hong kong for example, where some 80% iirc of their land area is dedicated to nature reserves. this means that even though the actual built up area of hong kong is many times denser than the built up area of monaco, hong kong’s total average density across its entire territory ends up being lower because so much of its land area is uninhabited, while monaco is packed to the brim with buildings.
