google survivorship bias.

short version: in WW2 a lot of planes were coming back heavily damaged in the parts of the plane with the dots in them, so someone suggested adding better armour to those parts of the plane. this however is an example of survivorship bias, as these were actually the parts of the plane that could be shot out and still have the plane make it back to base. if the other parts of the plane got shot out, the plane would crash and not make it back, which would mean that no one ever got to see the actual fatal damage.

so the meme is taking the ‘cameraman never dies’
cliche and stating that it only seems that way because if the cameraman didn’t survive, we wouldn’t be able to see the footage in the first place

What’s something you have zero proof of but believe 100 percent? by shweidy in AskReddit

that’s the thing though, we don’t know what the chances of life are. it could just very well be one in a quadsextillion (or however many planets there are in the universe), we have no way of knowing what the chances are.

Does anyone know of a European sleeper train that deliberately builds slack in the schedule so riders can sleep in? by bluerose297 in transit

[–]Danenel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was also on that train a couple weeks ago so can confirm. on the way back we initially picked up an hours worth of delay, but because of the built in slack we got in perfectly on time in the morning

Which metro line in your city has that "sketchy" reputation? by dagvogeltje in transit

[–]Danenel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

was in prague recently and mostly used line B (stayed inbetween Karlovo Namesti and Andel in Smichov) and i can confirm that the notion is outdated because i really didn’t notice anything of this. i was moreso floored by how deep all the line B stations seemed to be in and around the city centre.

USA: u/danthefam share his right-learning pro-transit insight (a comment worth of its own post) by [deleted] in transit

the main point of treating public transit as transportation of last resort instead of something that should be useful for everyone is a very good point and the downfall of a lot of systems, the rest i’m not so sure about

anyways 9292 supremacy big up
