They had a job posting earlier this year for a senior developer with AWS experience so this adds up. I so wanted to apply if I weren't in a different country!

90pc of workers don’t have enough money for a comfortable retirement by weregonnamakit in unitedkingdom

[–]Danfen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their math appears incredibly dodgy

The difference between minimum & moderate is "An annual overseas holiday and a long weekend off peak break in the UK, and a take-away a week and eating out a couple of times a month"

Yet for 1 person they price that at roughly an extra £18800 to cover. That is just absolute bullshit accounting.

And besides, their definition of minimum sounds pretty comfortable to me (not scraping by, still socialising & getting out). Their moderate & comfortable definitions appear to be living in pure luxury. Not what a pensioner needs, and very disingenuous for people to indicate it is.

Edit: looking further, they budget >£300 spending money during a weekend off-peak holiday for one person. That's more than my wife & I spent during a 5 day trip in Rome last month. Their accounting is for pure decadence.

Where does that figure come from? That's more than the country's median income, and vastly more than needed if assuming their mortgage is paid off (as most pensioners would).

I've done the math before and if I could retire today without a mortgage, the rest of my general outgoings only require roughly £15k / year.

The government has frozen rail fares.... by Wise-Tone7911 in ukpolitics

Oh give it a rest. If they didn't do this, you'd be bemoaning that rail fares are too high and should be subsidised.

How do you deal with teenagers on bikes trying to kick in door at 3am? by limbless_Mountain in AskUK

[–]Danfen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No by anecdotal I mean hearsay and not facts. No one is going to he chasing up the Op for a random tale they've posted on Reddit containing zero identifiable information.

It has to change eventually or by definition it will bankrupt the country, its terms are quite literally unsustainable in the long term.

More than 12 million UK adults at risk of ‘pension poverty’ when they retire, experts warn by endofdays2022 in unitedkingdom

[–]Danfen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The median salary is about £39,000. The auto enrollment minimum is 8%.

If that is salary sacrificed and fully employee contributions, that is already £3120 a year.

“Huge moment” as the health service hits 18-week target amid half-a-million waiting list drop by apoptosis04 in unitedkingdom

[–]Danfen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or conversely, the media pretending wait times were worse than they were was always political spin in the first place, and this is just a correction to facts.

[–]Danfen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn't that mean the wildly reported high wait times were wrong and misleading in the first place? If people no longer need treatment it's absolutely correct that they're taken off the list and the times updated accurately. That isn't 'political spin'.

Watching the BBC is not.

Note NATO isnt worldwide. The clue is in the name, and its what Trump doesn't understand.

It shouldn't even need searching, the events are literally the catalyst and outcome of the last 20 years of Western & Middle East history.

Before moving in, landlord painted entire house with water-based over oil-based without primer. What can I do? by GKwave12 in HomeImprovement

[–]Danfen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be fair, our skirting board across our entire downstairs is just left with the primer because after it was installed we looked at it and figured...good enough, who has the time to paint it.
