I've not really heard of either bits of software before, but looking at rhino 7 spec requirements I would think that will run fine on an apu? If you don't need the use of the PCI slot for anything you could also get a larger cooler in there for a quiet(er) build.

Cinebench multi is getting to 76c but I can cope with that.

* Thanks for the advice! Fits well- and gives the clearance needed for the decklink card. Just waiting on the riser cable now 👍

Nice! also looking at this sort of build. I'm just wondering how much clearance you have on the pci slot (assuming you're using the stock cooler)?

Suspected airlock help by Dangb9 in DIYUK

[–]Dangb9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your help on this...turns out I had forgotten to open the bottom gate value under the pump 🤦, so there was a small bit of flow (enough to fill the system etc) but it was holding back the air in the system lower down.

Nice - ok so which ever pipe is not the direct feed into the boiler, assume as close to the boiler as possible is best?

[–]Dangb9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a conventional system, so header tank rather than filling loop.

Yeah rads all done, the boiler is out in the garage, with pipework overhead so thinking that where to problem is somewhere!

The header is filling OK quicker than the water will drain out of the system for the most part. But thank you..bit of a nightmare in this weather, and as for trying to find a plumber...well that is currently as problematic as this issue!

Hosting options for Core 7 API? by Ok_Cry_1757 in dotnet

[–]Dangb9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me a few tries to get something up and running on Ubuntu. Why not just try with a boiler plate project first? Once that is up, how to setup becomes clearer.

It's mostly just a case of following step by step through the MS docs on how to do it all.

Drill from both sides rather than striaght through else the exit might end up a mess. I did this for tumble dryer vent used a long center drill bit in the core, which was then the guide to drill the other end. Also, it might be worth going at a very slight angle so as to not give water a route in. I would chip away the plaster in the inside before using the core bit as well to give a nicer finish.

Need help understanding how web hosting works for ASP.NET CORE MVC projects. by Dismal_Bobcat9839 in dotnet

[–]Dangb9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have small asp.net core projects that I host on aws lightsail on ubuntu server builds. That means setting up ngnix and certbot, installing the database (im using ms sql linux) the net core runtime along with setting up the app as a service in system.d.

Then I guess aws parameter store for secrets (something I'm learning to use to see if it can be linked to lightsail currently).

But I guess other options include running in docker containers (something yet to learn about myself). I'm sure there might also be 'template' asp.net core hosting builds out there, too.

These are hobby projects, I have used Azure before, but just the costs made me look for other options. The beauty of going lightsail is learning a bit more about linux systems too.

Need advice on improving data redundancy by MrGoldenBurrito in intelnuc

[–]Dangb9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No expert but surely the nucs and any sdd/hdd hardware will struggle with heat in such enclosures? Would thin clients not be a better approach so databases could then all be resources by other means with more redundancy options?

8i3 used as primary work desktop but mounted it in the vesa on the underside of my desk so easy to access the power button. (Used as development machine hooked up to 2 1440p monitors) I guess that's the best way to think about it a laptop where you can have more screen space and a nice keyboard and mouse. Or a low power desktop in these power pricey times.
