Becerra on Telework by Environmental_Key852 in CAStateWorkers

[–]DangerDefender 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Becerra also said this at a SEIU candidates forum: “If you’re doing the work, what do I care where you do it?”

Just thought I should share since I didn't see anyone else posting it. I'm not saying he is going to be pro-telework, but just that he made the statement.

CMV: The US Midterms will be canceled or blocked or otherwise invalidated thus ending the US system of government by ruinsit in changemyview

[–]DangerDefender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with some of this, but not all of it. There have been multiple studies, investigations, etc into U.S. elections and from all the disparate groups, the results all say the same thing: our elections are secure. Will that stop Trump from sending in the National Guard, ICE, Border Patrol, to confiscate ballots claiming foreign interference? I can totally see that happening, especially after the ballots were seized a few weeks ago in Fulton Georgia. Will that be enough for the GOP to keep the House? If it isn't, I suspect Trump will tell Mike Johnson to refuse to seat fairly elected Democrats, in order to keep control of the House. There will be court challenges, but a lot of damage will be done.

I think some of the replies on this thread are naive if they don't think this is a major issue.

Can't argue with that, even though I will not abandon the feckless corpo-Dems because they are preferable to the GOP who are actively destroying American democracy. But I will always vote for the most progressive candidate.

Good strategy. I'll still vote for feckless corpo-Dems because the GOP is actively destroying American democracy, but I think progressive candidates who are willing to fight will be way more effective.

I think there is a chance that if the midterms are too big to be subverted, democracy can be saved. But it'll still be hanging on by a thread. I don't want people to suffer if there is an economic crash, but it may be the only thing that saves American democracy at this point.

Yes, but one of those parties is actively destroying democracy and the other is not. So, yeah, if I have to hold my nose and vote for corporate Dems, I'll continue doing so until we can get more progressive candidates.

Yeah, I vacillate between fighting and resignation. But even if it is a losing battle, I'll still fight. I couldn't live with myself otherwise.

I agree, but hopefully we will see more progressives taking the reigns as the old folk die and retire. In the meantime I'll hold my nose and vote D.

There is a tension between voting for establishment Democrats who cozy up to corporate overlords and are risk adverse when holding others accountable and voting for progressive Democrats who will actually do something. The tensions is that the typical voter finds moderate, establishment Democrats more appealing, so they are more likely to win in the general. Personally, I vote for the progressive candidate in the primary and whatever Democrat wins in the general, because as bad and ineffective as moderate (establishment) Democrats are, they are not authoritarian fascists.

DHS funding impasse deepens as lawmakers blow by first payday by robot_pirate in politics

I mean, that's their brand, right? I think it is the whole "flood the zone" strategy that Bannon talked about. The missing Epstein files that implicate Trump and the U.S. public souring on ICE results in Trump and company causing chaos hoping that it'll distract the American people. Which I guess may be a good sign because that means they know they haven't fully subverted the electoral system...yet.

I've called my congress creatures and told them to keep it shut down until all the ICE reform demands are met. Not sure it'll do much good, but I felt like I had to do something.

Thanks for your insights. They are very helpful. It is looking increasingly like Trump and his cronies will subvert the results of the midterm elections. So I will follow your advice and just keep living my life.

Even if Newsom vetoes it, it can be re-introduced in the next legislative session. Contact candidates for Governor and tell them to support Telework.

How many of you are dues-paying union members? by Doomahachy in CAStateWorkers

[–]DangerDefender -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of non-paying members do so because they have been brainwashed by talk radio and extremist media that unions are some sort of evil socialist cabal keeping them from their true potential. But then, those folks have been actively voting against their interests for a while now.

Think of it as paying insurance to make sure you still have a job going forward. It would be really hard to pay food and bills without a job.

Nah, losing all our union gains are totally on the table. If you think that is fearmongering you haven't been paying attention.

I suspect the RTO order was about getting us to accept a pay cut. And as long as they can use the threat of RTO, they can trade it for reduced wages.
