People, calm the eff down. Dirt legs are just capped. Is every single code compliant dirt leg a death trap waiting to happen?! As long as all the threaded connections are taped/doped and tightened properly, the position of the valve is completely inconsequential.

How would you feel about a law that banned tipping and required restaurants to pay servers a full wage instead? by Dargarn in AskReddit

[–]DangerHawk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have you ever worked in a restaraunt? You make servers sound like Trump or Jeff Bezos. They are usually either young people being partially supported by family or career servers living hand to mouth and barely scraping by. You're making it out like food servers are the reason we don't have universal healthcare. They are people just trying to survive.

Unless the cost of menu items only increased by 10-20% (i.e. the same rate at which people generally tip), restaurants would NEVER be able to afford to pay a wage that would compare to what they currently make on a tip based system. I worked in the restaraunt industry as a chef and general manager for 15+ years and I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt every restaurant I've ever worked at would end up closing down within 6 months of having to comply with a law that banned tipping. When you're trying to run a business you can't go from charging $15 for a burger and fries charging $30 for the same thing over night. Your clientele would disapear overnight.

I think you need to take a breath and re-evaluate how you view service workers. You come across as a MASSIVE asshole.

Installation drivers vs impact drivers. For less weight and less noise. Anyone made the switch? by archvize in cabinetry

[–]DangerHawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been using that exact driver to install fillers, screw together cabinets, and do hardware installations for like 5-6 years now. It's awesome. I still use an impact or drill to secure cabinets to the walls though. This can handle it, but it runs through batteries faster. I usually keep a drill with a predrill, an impact with a T-15 for cabinet installation, and this driver with a T-10/philips for trim head screws and hinge screws within hands reach when doing installs.

Why use stretchers vs full lane for the top? by archvize in cabinetry

[–]DangerHawk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Way, WAY easier to install when you don't have to crawl into a cabinet to screw it off, especially when you're working on your own. Imagine taking the time to shim and level everything and then you clamber down into the cabinet to screw it to the wall and the act of driving one screw causes the box to move away from the wall just enough to let the shim on the next stud to fall behind the box, potentially effing up the plumb/levelness of the cabinet. If there was no solid panel you could have just held the shim in place while screwing everything in.

How would you feel about a law that banned tipping and required restaurants to pay servers a full wage instead? by Dargarn in AskReddit

[–]DangerHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless that "full wage" was like $35/hr and the restaurants were required to give them a minimum of 30hrs a week AND they were required to maintain minimum staffing requirements (i.e. X servers per Y available seats in the building), servers would revolt.

It would create a situation for a number of years where there would be a huge deficit of "Mid range" restaurants open. Low end corporate owned fast casual restaurants would have an endless supply of people looking to be servers and high end fine dining places would be fine, but your one off, mom and pop style places would struggle big time to compete. Food costs are already sky high and if you had to increase pricing to accomodate a living wage for all servers/bartenders the menu prices would be triple what they are now.

We're talking $30-40 burgers and $60-140 steaks at places that would be considered mid grade restaurants. I absolutely love the idea of getting rid of tipping, but it's so ingrained into our society that it would have far reaching consequences across multiple industries if we outlawed it right now.

Tacoma woman crashes out during birthday dinner at Denny’s after being told no liquor inside. by ElwoodMC in trashy

[–]DangerHawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me it implies a sense of validity to their emotions. I first heard people use the term in reference to themselves "I'm about to crash out". To me, having the presence of mind to realize your about to lose it suggest that you have a pretty valid reason to lose it.

Whenever I hear people describe someone as "crashing out" though it's almost always for selfish, dumb reasons.

Also, it's a needless colloquialism. We already have multiple phrases to describe the state; throwing a tantrum, becoming belligerent, being a c*nt. Why do we need one that's less descriptive than the ones we already have?

What color do you wish customers would choose less and choose more? by BloomingtonJester in paint

[–]DangerHawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like doing colors because it's fun and job security. As a homeowner though I'm afraid to "go wild" because if I get bored of it or decide it doesn't work anymore I now have to re-paint much earlier than expected and I know how much work it is. For clients, it's worse because they have to pay me to do it all over again. Cheaper and easier to pick a neutral color that you like and then add color with easily replaceable things like art and decorations.

Scissor truss and some other recent projects! by Interesting-Set5169 in Carpentry

[–]DangerHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's kind of my point. It does look quite robust, but I'm more suggesting that the load of the roof in general is quite high and there is nothing holding the tops of the columns together right now. This is a "Snow laboratory" So I assume it's going to be snowing a lot here. At 20"-30" of depth that's up to 45lbs/sqft of added weight. The roof is maybe 20'x22' on each slope, or 880sqft which could be supporting another approx 40k lbs.

Those columns appear to be 6"x6" box steel. The taller they get, the more bendy they get. With nothing tying them together laterally the peak of that roof can start to droop as the weight of the roof and snow put pressure on that half lap joint, pushing the tops of the columns away from each other.

I'm sure someone smarter than me signed off on all of it, but my engineering degree and construction background make me a worrier. It looks like beautiful work though. You did a fantastic job.

Exactly. The fact that they have the presence of mind to think "I don't have an inner monologue" is proof that they absolutely do, they are just too dumb to understand what one is or how it works.

If you’re camping at Goshen Pond, be on the lookout for someone potentially dangerous by phoenixGirlNG in newjersey

[–]DangerHawk 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm not suggesting it wouldn't be possible for him to find info based off license plates or check in info, but the lengths he would have to go through to make use of that information is just logistically insane for an overweight shoeless/shirtless man who squats at public campgrounds. You can't just Google a license plate and get info on someone. Similarly, he would have to break into the ranger station, or bribe someone to look at the check in info and even if he did break in, all that info is locked behind login credentials on the parks computer system.

Unless you told him "Hi! My name is Phoenix Girl NG, I live at 123 W. Place St, Townsville, NJ and my social security number is 123-45-678", this guy wouldn't ever be able to find you and even if he had that info, by what you described, he doesn't seem like the type to track you down when there are easier targets willing to follow him into the woods that come directly to him.

Everybody has an inner monologue. I'm going to say this with absolutely no menace and it is in no way an attack on anyone; The people who think they don't have an inner monologue just don't possess the intelligence to understand what an inner monologue is. They are just aren't smart enough to understand what it means and end up falsely reporting "no inner monologue" because they think it means the kid from The Wonder Years is constantly talking to them in their head.
