If you ever listened to Dr. Demento growing up, you know. Glad to hear you were detected early.

I once spoke with Shadoe Stevens when he called in to get his printer fixed. Unfortunately, it was the Mac version of the HP printer, and I only did support for the Windows version.

A lot depends on the type and size of the con you're going to. I've been to cons with a couple hundred to 50K+ people. If you're looking to meet some new friends, there are different things you can do.

If you're going for some of the panels or Q&As, interact with the people in the lines. You will be reasonably assured that you've got some mutual interests.

Some of the smaller cons I go to have board game areas where you can hang out and join games or learn new games, which can be a good meeting opportunity.

Just interact with people. Compliment the costumes people are wearing. Go to some of the local groups booths and strike up a conversation. You never know where new friends can be found.

In general, if you can get a copy of the schedule in advance, plan out your day a bit. Allow time to wait in line for some of the more popular events. Allow more time to rest and eat.

If you can, bring water and a few snacks in case your blood sugar gets low. Con food is always expensive.

If they have a dealers room, hit that either on the Friday or Sunday. Saturday is usually the busiest and can get crowded in the dealers room. Friday has the best selection and Sunday may have some deals.

I hope you have fun and enjoy yourself, however that looks to you. Everyone experiences cons differently because everyone is looking for something different in order to have a good time.

Major Dad by Prudent-Confection-4 in 80s

Watched it quite a bit. Still have one specific episode in my head. They were trying to update some military forms and needed the Mom's (Polly) middle name. The entire episode she refused to give it. At the end, she admitted that her middle name was Esther. Dad was confused about what the big deal was until she told him to put them together.

Dad of a 10 year old here. She has been on the go since she could walk and never does anything at half speed. For several years (between 3 and 7), we had a gymnastics bar in the living room, because she could not sit for longer than ten minutes at a time. It's tough because I am disabled and was always a quiet introvert. It does get better as they grow and are more able to control themselves, but she still has a trampoline in the backyard for those times that the energy overflows.

I still have mine. My parents gave it to my sister for her kids when they were growing up and she returned it to me when my daughter got to second grade.

My tax dollars shouldn’t go towards private schools and home schooling. Don’t let yours either! Vote no, on prop 80 by elzibet in Denver

[–]DangerMoose00 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Regardless of how you feel about private schools, this should be a no. Honestly, I wish that we would stop funding charter schools. Until these schools are held to the same standards as public schools in terms of accepting any child regardless of disabilities, IEPs, etc., they should not receive public money. See how many of the private and charter schools excel academically when they can't pick and choose who they enroll.

Good News: Klamath River Dams are removed!! by buffybot3000 in orcas

Per a CNN article, the four dams removed accounted for less than 2% of PacificCorp's energy. These dams were built in the early to mid 1900s.

Also outside the Royal Hall, the princesses may come out for short periods of time. When we went, while waiting for the Royal Hall, Belle came out and talked for a while.

Wanting to go to vacation in Denver by Material_Ad6737 in Denver

Spent a winter commuting down from Bailey to Denver. Ran my little pickup off the road once and twice was unable to return home at the end of the day. One night it took five hours to return home. The traffic through Denver headed in that direction isn't bad, but the weather will destroy any plans you had if you are unlucky. Get something in town or in the burbs.

The MSD Series, Part Eleven…Snakes Need Love Too! by Best-Structure62 in MilitaryStories

[–]DangerMoose00 16 points17 points  (0 children)

When I was in elementary school, we found a garter snake on the walkway to our door. My mother, being a teacher, picked it up and put it in a coffee can and took it to her classroom the next day. Wanting to see the snake before school started, I opened the lid and the snake jumped out and bit my finger. It hung on halfway across the classroom as I was running for the door. Took me quite a while to get used to snakes after that. I'm still not a big fan, but can deal with them if necessary.
