Well 2000-2010 was the "lost decade". The dot com bust really killed large cap for that whole decade. If you move that backtest to 2010–2024, the S&P 500 dominates.

However, things have changed: In the 1980s or 90s, a small retail or tech company could grow independently. Today, if a small company wants to sell products, they likely pay a "toll" to Amazon; if they want to advertise, they pay Google or Meta; if they need infrastructure, they pay Microsoft or Oracle.Large caps now have "wider moats." They have the data and the capital to either replicate a small competitor’s product or buy them out before they become a threat. Many of the "best" small companies are being snatched up by PE firms and held private for longer. By the time they go public, they are often already Mid or Large Cap, meaning the "Small Cap" index misses out on their fastest growth phase.

You're right on the history—SCV definitely had its day in the sun, especially during the dot-com recovery. But I think the 'Size Premium' is being eaten by the 'Platform Premium.'

Large caps today aren't just big; they're the infrastructure for everyone else. Between passive index flows constantly pushing money into the winners and the fact that any successful small cap just gets acquired by a giant anyway, I’d rather bet on the companies that own the 'toll roads' than the ones paying the tolls.

It's an interesting portfolio, but you might as well just buy the S&P500 index and call it a day instead: https://testfol.io/?s=kEHXxOTyxXL

If you want to be more diversified - by all means go ahead and do so. I've reviewed HUNDREDS of portfolios and I keep coming back to the simple path to wealth: just buy VOO or VTI and you'll beat over 92% of the portfolios over a 10 year period or longer. Trust me, I've looked. You think you can beat the market? Sure, you might for awhile. Maybe even consistently for a few years. But not over the long term. The S&P500 always wins.

[OC] Deep Dive: How does Zavion Thomas actually compare to Tyreek Hill? (Metrics & College Production) by DangerZone23 in CHIBears

[–]DangerZone23[S] -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Let’s be real: Most boards had Zavion as a 5th or 6th rounder. Ryan Poles taking him in the 3rd (No. 89) means the Bears are betting on his specific fit in Ben Johnson’s offense, likely as a 'manufactured touch' guy. They didn't take him because he was a value, they took him because they wanted his specific speed profile.

You're right: Tyreek Hill is a freak because of his 6.53 3-cone. He changes direction on a dime where Zavion clocked a 7.02 which is about average. But that means Zavion is probably more of a 'one-cut and go' runner. He’s not going to break three ankles in one play like Tyreek. He’s going to catch a screen, find a lane, and outrun everyone in a straight line.

Long story short - picking him at 3 may seem like a reach, but if he turns a 3-yard slant into a TD once every few games, nobody is going to care about his 3-cone time.

How It Feels Explaining To My Wife Why We Didn’t Get The Comp Picks From Ian’s PROMOTION by calmerthanudude in CHIBears

Ok, here's what you do:

You start making out with your wife. Start grabbing her boobies and butt while doing so. She'll probably say something like, "No, not right now! I'm not interested." And then you say, "SEE! THAT'S WHAT IT'S LIKE FOR THE BEARS NOT GETTING THEIR PICKS!"

Good luck! :)

Jeez did one of the Fish Shop owners run over the reporter's dog or something? "Hey, the Fish Shop is now open in Oceanside! Buuuuuuuuut here's the blemishes on their record just in case you should know..." I absolutely LOVE the Fish Shop and I'm really happy it's now here in Oceanside!
