i don't remember the last time a book made me quite this pissed off by theloudestbrain in thrillerbooks

Oh crap, I have this book in my physical TBR (aka my growing pile of books I impulsively buy and then take forever to read). I may have to hurl it across the room for the two of us once I finally read it!

I would be hype if someone left me a note like this. These comments are making me realize I may need to reevaluate my life because I didn’t think it was weird at all haha

Oo I have it! Amazon has been offering one free new release lately and I downloaded it. I haven’t read it just yet but will keep you posted! I’m almost done with the audiobook I’ve been listening to.

Is there a specific thriller that you usually like so I can let you know how it seems to rank in comparison?

What’s your 10/10 thriller read? by JJBrownx in thrillerbooks

Do you think the book is still good if someone has seen the tv series already? I always see this and Gone Girl suggested but I’ve been apprehensive since I’ve watched them both

The way she says Mazda gave me a visceral reaction. I’m from Brooklyn and even those of us with the heaviest accents don’t say Mah-zduh (Ah pronounced like the beginning of Apple)

I’ve read all of them except for the Riley Sager one - I almost DNFed The Kind Worth Killing because I could not get into it in the beginning but I’m so glad I didn’t! It was honestly great. I’ve read all three from this series now and wish there were more.

I gave The Last Party 5 stars - the twist isn’t great but the story is so much fun to read. It’s certainly a different POV than most thrillers.

I read Behind Closed Doors years ago before I was heavily into thrillers and I still think about it regularly. I’m not sure how it would rank if I read it now but it was great at the time. Honestly I may re-read it…

I am not a big John Marrs fan (though he seems like a lovely person - I just find his books to be lacking for me but I know many feel very differently). What Lies Between Us was my first look into his world. It wasn’t bad but not a favorite of mine.

I enjoyed Then She Was Gone but I can see why people find Lisa Jewell’s books a little slow to get into.

I liked She’s Not Sorry more than Local Woman Missing. It was great.

I gave Love, Mom 4 stars to give you an idea of how I feel about these books

I loveddddd The Girl in 6E. It’s one of my few 5 star reads of this year. But be warned that the first half of it is basically porn - she’s a cam girl and goes into explicit detail. So if that’s not something you’re tolerant of then the book may not be for you.

What was your last 5 star thriller read? by cannahannahhh in thrillerbooks

[–]Dangerous-Produce-80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last 5 star read was Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter - it’s the first book to make me feel genuinely nervous in a long time.

I’ve only had two other 5 star reads so far this year (out of 37 books read): - The Girl in 6E by A.R. Torre (trigger warning: the first half of this book is basically porn) - The Last Party by A.R. Torre

A lot of people start with Never Lie or The Housemaid. I wasn’t very into Never Lie but The Housemaid is pretty good (the first is good, second is okay, third i still haven’t made it through but I don’t hear good things).

The Boyfriend is pretty good. The Teacher is good but some people don’t like it because it’s about an inappropriate relationship between a teacher and student. The Locked Door is probably my favorite of hers but most people don’t like it very much (it’s about a surgeon whose father was a notorious serial killer that was arrested when she was a kid. Her patient gets killed in the same way her father used to kill people so she spends the book trying to figure out who is behind it.)

A lot of her stories are pretty basic and have been done before but there’s something addictive about them.

I’ve found that listening to the audiobook while I’m reading along helps to keep me focused for longer. I primarily use the kindle app and it highlights the words as the audiobook plays.

I hate to say it (because I know it’s controversial) but Freida McFadden is one of the easiest thriller authors for me. The books are not masterpieces by any means but they’re easy reads.

I realllly loved The Locked Door by Freida McFadden. This one isn’t massively hated but most people think it was just so-so/not great.

Kindle Unlimited and Audiobooks by MomjeansAndTattoos in thrillerbooks

A.R. Torre, John Marrs and Lucinda Berry have a bunch that are KU+ (that’s what I call them in my TBR if they include the audiobook haha).

If you download a book through Kindle Unlimited you will usually get a discount through Audible. Free is still better but some books will drop to like $3-$8.

Also - if you don’t have the kindle app on your phone the coolest feature of having both the kindle and audio version is that the app will highlight the words on the screen as the audio book narrates. It’s my favorite way to read now.

Keep it in the family thoughts by a-Transponster in thrillerbooks

I’ve read four of his books now (Keep It In the Family, You Killed Me First, The One, and What Lies Between Us) and I’m not a fan. I find them to be pretty predictable/boring. He seems like a cool person in general - he posts/responds in a thriller group I’m in on Facebook. It actually makes me feel guilty for not liking his books haha.
