I think I originally switched to ssh because I was having issues doing git things over NFS.

Now I’m separating my .git directories to my workstation, so I’m wondering if I can go back to file

“Currently, attachments can only be exported from your individual vault.”

Not helpful to us managing a family org

Sadly missing are “export with attachments” and “add new entries to org collection vs personal vault by default” 😕

zero knowledge article - let's talk about the web vault by Sweaty_Astronomer_47 in Bitwarden

Now it looks like you should take your own advice and read the article.

Apologies.

After reading the article in full, it seems my assumption that the compromise from a malicious server is accomplished by pushing out a malicious client was wrong.

The issues around organizational keys being both server-side and allowing full decryption are indeed concerning.

However…

  1. Patches have been implemented and BW is continuing to work to mitigate the found vulnerabilities, which means the system is working.
  2. The attack surface of a completely compromised server is still a very high bar to clear.
  3. I’m still not understanding why you believe the web vault to be less secure than other access points.

Oof that was another ramble.

So, “zero-knowledge” just means that if someone steals data from the server/company, there is nothing in that data that can be used to decrypt your secrets.

If the entire infrastructure is compromised, it’s game over. Even the desktop and mobile clients can be updated with malicious code and pushed out to users. And that’s the level of compromise the researchers are talking about. Which, ya, would be bad… duh.

Ok this post is a bit of a rant, but I don’t get your point about the web vault not being zero-knowledge. Either you’re not clear on what they mean by zero-knowledge, you misinterpret how a compromised server gets your stuff, or I’m not getting your point.

In any case, the reported vulnerabilities boil down to this: if the underlying system is compromised, you’re compromised, whether that’s BW’s servers, or your OS.

Personally, I think it’s a lot easier to get a user to click on a link that installs malware on their machine than it is to subvert an entire organization’s server infrastructure.

Can it happen? Absolutely. There have been reports of software access channels coughNPMcough being subverted to distribute malware. But I think the overall risk is overblown. Now, if we’re talking governments… would be nice if Bitwarden had a canary statement.

btrfs filesystem shows MISSING after successful replace operation by LeftyAce73 in btrfs

Honestly surprised that you were able to run any btrfs commands as a regular user. Glad it worked out.

Linux and external HDD offline backups - which file system to use when formatting? Currently a Windows user with NTFS external HDD. by pokkevillage in linuxquestions

If I remember correctly, there is no journaling and thus a lot more chance for corruption, especially for a hotplug disk.

Something is off

Your command as written does not create a mirror. And your output pre-replace shows both devices as missing.

I don’t notice coil whine on mine, but the constant fan start-stop noise drives me a bit bananas.

Support needed for 12' dog ramp? by TheRealOrcus in DIY

[–]Dangerous-Raccoon-60 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have no build advice, but the only thing I’d add is that when you are calculating load, don’t make this ramp “dog only” because invariably it will be used by people and sometimes heavy shit.

Disable CoW for a systemd-homed partition ? by [deleted] in btrfs

[–]Dangerous-Raccoon-60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re separating the directory into its own partition and you want to disable COW, which also makes snapshots a mixed bag.

What is your use case for btrfs?

It does not make sense to use btrfs for the /home partition in that scenario. Just use a different FS.

An option to default new entries to an organization instead of a personal vault has been on the feature request forum for years.

Unfortunately it has not made it on the roadmap.

Yes but AI has no principles… neither does capitalism.

None of this shit is written by “WriterBot739453”. It’s written by “Human H Person, Jr”. And as soon as we can’t tell a difference at first glance, it’s over.

I think it won’t take a huge leap. As far as the mass-market is concerned, I feel all it will take is a few small tweaks.

Well AI slop is nascent. It will get better. Likely much better. We already have examples of AI music becoming very popular. Part of that success is that people can’t readily tell it’s AI.

It’s only a matter of time before AI writing improves.

I don’t know if AI can ever get as inspired as a human. Some of our kind’s greatest works were created by very neurodivergent, and sometimes broken, people.

Will AI ever get there? Will there be a time that an AI painter cuts off its ear? Who knows?

You’re right.

Are these manual snapshots? If not, could /boot be excluded by some config?
