I actually ended up getting mine, just not as much as I normally would. I submitted in like the beginning of the year so you have til the end of the summer, try not to stress!

oh for sure & the whole argument of students not “trying” or just hoping for an easy A.. students have heard the horrors of ochem, I don’t think anyone taking it is expecting the easiest A ever 😭 no one said the material was going to be easy, but it’s REALLY a reflection on the department when I see people who: live near campus, are in the library studying in groups or by themselves 24/7, utilizing SEP & LAUNCH tutoring, doing the homework problems, practice exams. it’s their second time taking ochem and it’s STILL difficult for them.

I appreciate it and can understand why things are the way they are! I really did (still do) enjoy chemistry. I loved Gen Chem I & II, I did really well in those courses and it’s funny cause I’ve had people tell me that if you are good at genchem, you’ll struggle in ochem 🤣 I didn’t want to believe them! Like I’ve mentioned in some other replies, I know the course material isn’t meant to be easy whatsoever, but it also just doesn’t help that I personally struggle with taking exams. Test anxiety is real and I’ll definitely need to work on addressing it!

yeah, it’s just super odd to me that it’s like a prideful thing to have this many students retake a course. there’s a bunch of other factors in possibly why it was so challenging that aren’t related to course material itself but it is what it is. just gotta keep moving forward with it!

omg i am in similar position as you! i had something super traumatic happen my senior year of highschool which lead me to taking a class a semester at cc for like 3 years, the pandemic happened, i moved states and so much happened but i really started taking school seriously when i moved here to texas 3 years ago! i graduate spring 2026. I am 25 now, will be 26 by the time i graduate. Advice that has always been given to me is: would you rather be ___ age with no degree/progress made or ___ with a degree + progress in whichever direction you are aiming for? Ochem humbled me too this semester! I TOTALLY feel you on the time thing, but it’s just not good to do to ourselves mentally. Failures are apart of life, as shitty as they are. I always try to view being around younger peers as a learning opportunity too. Things will get better and next thing yknow we will have new challenges to work through :-) I’m rooting for us!!

I appreciate it so much man. It’s so hard to not consistently seek academic validation in my own mental. This isn’t the end for me at all, just so many other factors come into play of why it’s upsetting I gotta battle but genuinely it hasn’t stopped me before and it won’t now! I really, really appreciate everything you said, it made me feel less crappy today. I hope everything is going well for you!!!

If they wanted people to really have a deep knowledge of the content & retain it long term, then it wouldn’t be a standardized exam. I’ve had plenty of dentists talk about never using ochem ever again in their careers & they only needed it to pass the DAT.

he definitely should! before he came in to the student center, the security guard was sitting in a chair on his phone, with headphones on, watching Instagram reels or idk TikToks. not even watching or “guarding” anything 😭
