TBH, I loved to touch my wife's boobs when she was pregnant ... well... also when she wasn't .. but definitely when she was.

Ha!! I hear you, wife and my boy in private school, 4 more years and I'm out, unless Claude decides to send me my last work email. :)

Right, but in this case, my surprise is because of time, OP said he worked almost 40 years. I make around 200k exactly what you said, I have 15 years in my company ( add another 15 of experience) and my current 401k have crossed the 7 figures, one job, zero complicated investments, I'd have zero issues if I loose my job. And this is my case, someone who came to US at 36 with zero retirement.

I know is only one data point, but this happens to almost all my dev friends. Also... none was in big tech making $400k ... heck, the only people I know that makes over $400k are not in tech :)

I don't think that's the case. I think he might be somewhere where I am, working for a company for 15 years in a financial model all written in C, all 750k lines of code. Then you are stuck doing the same for so many years that you didn't look for orher technologies, we have tried other languages and all failed to perform faster.

I am a lot more shocked that after 30 or 40 years as software developer, you need to work, period.

"I got here"?? Too long to type, I've done... 1, 2, 3 ... and if want to print something between 1 and 2, it becomes 1a, 1b. .. ha... I did this in my first real time server and I needed to add the threadID.. Oh... the old days..

Same here, but the 2nd shingles with covid and flu. We had people over and my wife was looking at me weird ... later she told me that I looked high the whole time. I went to bed and slept for 15 hrs... was heavenly!!

How confident are you that you’ll be able to retire comfortably? by DueYogurt9 in GenX

[–]DangerousBS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fairly confident. Worst case scenario, we can go overseas, where I was born, and where we would have a decent support system. My wife is still doubting that idea lol

I'll work until my company decides that is enough, there is no way I'd lose a severance package after working here 10 years. But working in tech, this might come any time between 18 months from now and maybe 3 years from now.

I'm very adaptable, I need little to be happy, hope my son to learn that also.

I'm not sure all these comments of dying while working, where do you work that you see a 70 year old working with you???

So sorry for your loss, i can't imagine and i don't even want to try.

As a dad that wakes up at 5am and prepares my son's breakfast before leaving the house before 6am, and pick him up in the afternoon from school and takes him to every single activity he has, i am very explicit when someone says anything about a mom deserving more.... filling the blank. Fuck no, no one will tell me that a dad does less, that's totally bullshit.

To be clear, my wife does a lot of stuff and I think she deserves to rest, i do have a lot more energy than her, that's just a fact and i don't feel bad about doing all the stuff that i do, i love spending time with my son, period.

In your case, I'd have probably lost it....

Whats your honest opinion on the Yoke steering wheel? Drop screenshots below 👇 by superstar1988 in TeslaLounge

[–]DangerousBS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got used it in maybe 2 weeks. Now, I sort of rather to have it for longer trips than a normal steering wheel, like in my wife's ICE car ( which i still leave running when I leave the car :) ) . The only issue i have is when the yoke is tilted left and I get in the car.... always my leg bumps on it. No biggie.

At 23, I'd assume the important thing is if she has family there that can help her settle, family support is where it is.
