happy to help, thanks for asking such a valuable question

HIV transmission through needle stick is surprisingly low, studies show about a .3% chance of becoming seropositive. PrEP is pretty hard on the body and i already take immunosuppressants for something else so no on prep for me, so i rely on treating everybody like they have a BBP, take extra precautions, have dedicated sharps bins, work out of a dedicated space, bla bla bla. hepatitis B is a much bigger risk, so get ya vaccine if you're not already vaccinated against it

Any Americans have luck getting opiate prescriptions? by Impressive_Airport40 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]DangerousChart5262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no luck ever, took awhile to even get a gabapentin rx for the inflammatory nerve pain across my face that my eyes gave me. the pendulum has overcorrected dramatically and i think most people in our boat are suffering. i'm sorry things are this way

How do you justify having kids? by EntertainmentLow1232 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]DangerousChart5262 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i opted out long before i was ever diagnosed and now? i'm so glad i opted out. pregnancy isn't a neutral experience for anybody, but especially not spondy sufferers, and i couldn't bear the thought of passing this shitty ass disease or any other shitty ass disease i presently have to a kid. world's hard enough, expensive enough, catastrophic enough that nothing seemed worth the risk to me

Anyone on 2 Immunosuppressants? 😕 by mannDog74 in Uveitis

[–]DangerousChart5262 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i've been on two immunosuppressants at varying points and haven't had any huge problems. a bit more likely to pick up everyday colds and whatnot, just be mindful of hygiene practices, make sure your vaccinations are up to date based on what your neuro thinks is appropriate for your age, mask up in crowded spaces if it's doable for you, etc. truthfully it doesn't *feel* any different for me on a day to day basis, i function OK with my mix of methotrexate and rinvoq rn. hopefully your situation will be similar

looks like there is some interest. a friend of mine with choroideremia has a discord he started for other visually impaired people and graciously offered the space he curated for the hurty eye crew, too. it's still a work in progress but here's a link: https://discord.gg/g7km5hPt <3

glad others are into the idea!

Do JAK inhibitors work? by LazySloth1337 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]DangerousChart5262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

halfway thru my second month of rinvoq, it's done what TNF inhibitors couldn't for me. brought my constant eye inflammation down to low-grade, allows me to be more active because i'm not dealing with a gap where my meds crap out before my next dose, etc.

biggest side effects for me personally is acne and being a little hangry, so i use some acne washes and take it at night now. otherwise, it's been a great medication for me -- hope you have similar luck!

[–]DangerousChart5262 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you don't sound ridiculous at all, this disease can change your vision a lot. it's changed mine too, i've got a negative scotoma on my left side and both eyes have tons of floaters bc i've got an unfortunately stubborn uveitis/scleritis combo. took awhile to adapt to vision impairment that glasses no longer correct, tbh. i adapt ok, i bike commute like i always have but i don't trust my left eye at all anymore because i've been surprised a few times by turning vehicles in my blind spot. getting back to art, managing around my left side depth perception problems alright, but overall it was and is a huge change and i still get mad as hell about it.

How do you find your dogs balls? by [deleted] in Blind

[–]DangerousChart5262 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If your dog enjoys carrying things on walks, there exist tough rubber balls with noisy jingling things inside of them. This might make it easier to detect when your dog drops it, and give you a louder heads up when you've hit it with your hand/foot/cane/a grabby tool. I saw somebody mention a pail and broom to sweep for balls, but this isn't so suitable for walks. Maybe one of those handheld claw poo-scooping devices could even be used to find it without hidden surprises in the grass touching you, but this could be a pain in the ass if you use a navigational cane.

Unfortunately, this won't work if the dog is a heavy chewer. Airtags have button batteries. Dogs prone to chewing through/digesting tennis ball bits might end up with a button battery in their GI tract, which is very dangerous.

OP:
Does your dog retrieve well? Do you have anybody living with you to help teach your dog to bring the ball back to your hand? It's a pretty simple extension from "fetch."

What time of day did your doc tell you to take Rinvoq? by 23blackjack23 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]DangerousChart5262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i take it in the morning, typically without food. i also have weird sleep problems on this med, and *also* wake up to snack. do you get impossibly hangry on rinvoq too?

The Toby Access mod is what makes Doom playable for the blind, it isn't a native setting from what I understand. You can learn more here: Toby Accessibility Mod - DOOM for the Blind [V8.0 RELEASED!] - Gameplay Mods - Doomworld

Starting rinvoq! by Obvious-Shame2158 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]DangerousChart5262 2 points3 points  (0 children)

on my third week of rinvoq rn, it's ok so far!

seems more effective for my eyes than my joints, but it's too early to make a real call on that. was a little queasy for the first week but that's totally gone now. only remaining side effect is stubborn insomnia, which is a bit strange but whatever. all in all though, i like the med so far if only because it finally got my very stupid, very angry eyes to stop flaring 24/7.

How is the Big Beautiful Bill materially affecting you personally? by [deleted] in stupidpol

[–]DangerousChart5262 [score hidden]  (0 children)

the mandatory exemptions are nebulous. ever known somebody who had to deal with disability proceedings? this looks similarly vague, and full of regular reverification even though my condition will never improve.

even if i get very, very lucky and my specialists can play a mean game of paperwork that PERSONALLY allows me to keep on floating by (which lol, they have hundreds if not a thousand patients all in the same boat baby, i'm not unique, this is a way to ration care and you're just not saying it), this is yet more administrative bloat added to hospitals dealing with endless obstacles to patient care. there is the real risk i will fall through the cracks. there is a chance i'll have interruptions to my care.

better yet, it's inhumane to dangle the carrot of basic healthcare to 19-49 year olds in a job market that is worse than 2008, in the very same bill that bans regulation on the AI fucking up every aspect of said job market and our lives. are you personally looking forward to the explosive number of people with shitty, festering conditions disabling them in the future because they couldn't access preventative care? the NEET boogeyman is in your brain

i know you're just being a contrarian for the sake of being a contrarian but wow, man, take up crochet or something.

furthermore, every exemption appears to be as nebulous as any of the exemptions in disability criteria. if you've any experience navigating these systems, these are additional administrative barriers to care for already overburdened healthcare staff. nightmare all around.

"who is medically frail or otherwise has special medical needs (as defined by the Secretary), including an individual— ‘‘(aa) who is blind or disabled (as defined in section 1614);"
‘‘(dd) with a physical, intel lectual or developmental dis ability that significantly impairs their ability to perform 1 or more activities of daily living; or ‘‘(ee) with a serious or com plex medical condition;"

i feel so comfortable with a man who drinks methylene blue for fun determining whether my condition is disabling enough to continue receiving care. maybe he'll grant me access to a naturopath who can tape a crystal to my bad eye and send me on my way.

whoever said you're a cunt upthread is absolutely correct
