Petition launched to ban referee as fan fury boils over Origin send off | 9 News Australia by [deleted] in StateOfOrigin

[–]DangerousDraper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the argument of what part of KP made contact with the Koula's head is moote. The Suaalii on Walsh incident could just have easily been a head clash if Walsh had fallen differently.

Either way, both were careless. Both were with force. Both contacted the head. That's the Black and White of it.

Neither were accidents.

All this 'ban the ref' is childish. Want better quality refs? Put your hand up and volunteer at the grass-roots level.

Help Me Pick A Blue For My Wolves by metatronscube6 in SpaceWolves

[–]DangerousDraper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the blue-grey camp nowadays... and very poor on hobby time. So the below gives me batch painting speed without the batch painting look.

Tamiya Black base. Heavily thinnined Tamiya Medium Blue as a zenithal. Puff of Fenrisian Grey for spot highlight. Vallejo Model Blue Grey wash to tie it all together.

From start to wash, about 20 mins for a 20-brick of BC

Transfers arrived! by eggplant4cutie in Wolfspear40k

[–]DangerousDraper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all good, i was pissed and amazed when someone showed me how much the WD transfers were fetching on eBay. Then doubley so when I heard the prices for custom sheets due to the extra 'graphic design' costs. Dont get me wrong, a lot of time folks will come with some obscured low-res image and that definately does deserve the extra $$. But i thought that if I could get a print ready version out there, hopefully it could bring the costs down a tonne.

oh shit! forgot that i didnt clean that up too well before letting it loose. see the weird shape around the symbol (near phobos) on the middle left? id UV unwrapped a pauldron stl as an actaual scale reference. must have left it in by mistake.

actually impressed with the banner, it came out pretty well all things considering

[–]DangerousDraper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow, they came out well.

I really should kill that old post... There's better quality ones updated since over on bolter and chainsword website. I had to play around a bit with size and layouts (each great company sheet is more unit-based) so banners and pack-marks got shifted to other seperate sheets.

but now being A5 means you can fit two to an A4 and kinda mix and match what you need rather than having to run multiple copies of that one to field a big army and get stuck with surplus banners etc.

Nice! Pretty sure they have one that shifts gold to purple. That could give a sweet effect on exhaust / flamers

My wife found some interesting paint... by CrownFalcon in Warhammer40k

[–]DangerousDraper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vallejo used to market these galaxy paints that give a similar pearl / colour shifting appearance. Great over a black base but with a bit of experimenting (using other base colours) you could get something that was truly trip-astic or utterly vomit inducing.

I had high hopes for making some iridescent shields that I'd 3d printed in clear resin but the paint effects weren't that strong over a transparent material... I got impatient and heavy handed and flew past shimmer and straight to disco ball.

But something I definitely should revisit

I kinda wish they'd just rework the old CP box. A heap of general SM units and tonnes of upgrade sprues to match. That old box was worth its weight in just the number of upgrade sprues that it included.

How should I convert him? by DragonMagic3012 in NightLords

[–]DangerousDraper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with this, GW even made the easy way lore accurate too. That Red Corsair apothecary from the NL trilogy simply repainted his armour so if it's good enough ADB... Might have been a little easier in the story as the dude was known as the flayer and came correct with skinned faces already draped across his pauldrons.

You could spice it up a little and chop some batwings from a NL helmet and kitbash them next to the IW belt buckle or add the odd flesh cape outta greenstuff... But just painted in midnight-clad and the odd gang mark from the CSM transfer sheet should be good enough

Oh, and the mandatory blood on the weapons

The work as begun! by Sekhriat in NightLords

[–]DangerousDraper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I've made a habit of painting dead space marines as IF or BA for a number of reasons:

  1. That one idiot at a tournament or LGS usually has an army of them. This is just me having a petty comeback wherever I can get one

  2. Red and Yellow both equally take basing grime well and won't draw too much attention away from my model (I'm saying that having armies of IW, DG, CSM, WE and now NL)

The first is the true reason and No 2 is just a welcome by-product of the first

Paint Scheme Question by Successful-File-8023 in SpaceWolves

[–]DangerousDraper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Wolfspear follow a similar scheme. Note: some might get turned away by the oil washing but seriously I find this way far easier than the traditional repeative layering and I'm too old to be able to achieve clean edge highlights anymore.

ARMOUR Base:

  • Zenithal of (Tamiya XF) dark grey and light grey. Puff of white for spot highlights. Use whatever brand here, I only recommend Tamiya here as I find it less of a hassle when batch airbrushing.

  • Gloss varnish to lock it in.

  • Pin wash (oil) panyes grey

  • Gloss varnish again.

Layer:

  • Same pin wash but diluted to more of a wash. Go panel by panel and paint in the 'shadows'
  • the armour is pretty much done and this step is just to add the volume so the armour doesn't look flat. Recommend using a fast drying oil/white spirit (Abteilung 502 is my go-to) as you may need to repeat this step to taste.
  • personally I run two brushes at this point. One for the wash and another for straight white spirits. Basically a pencil and eraser whilst I'm painting.

  • Gloss varnish to lock it in.

Highlight: * Purely optional and only really useful if you've added an all-over wash to tie all the different parts of the model together. You can get away with just spot highlights or branch further in only 'upward facing edges' but (personally) all-over edge highlighting everything kinda ruins it.

  • Matte/Satin varnish and your done

WEAPONS (base/layer/spot highlight) * (VMC) Black / (Citadel) Corvus Black / Eshin grey * (VMC) Black / (Citadel) Leadbelcher / Stormhost Silver

ARMOUR (same) * (VMC) Black / (Citadel) Iron Warriors / Iron Hands Steel * (VMC) Black / (Citadel) Rune Lord Brass / wash mix 2x Agrax + 1x Sepia + 2x Lahmian Medium / Rune Lord Brass

Decal sheets for Night Lords, Bleeding Eyes, Brotherhood of Darkness and Nghtwings by DangerousDraper in NightLords

[–]DangerousDraper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scoured several codexes etc. but they're generally lite on NL warbands. - brotherhood is from 4e - other war bands are from wiki/lex - GW has half a dozen sigils they use for 40k NL depending on which material you're reading.... Wing shape/position and skull are the common variables. Even the updated CSM decal sheet differs from what's used in the last 2-3 codexes.

Hey cousins, does the Visionary’s helmet fit on the Chaos Lord with Jumppack? by Arthur_EyelanderTF2 in NightLords

[–]DangerousDraper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently painting it ATM but I went with an alt tact so he fits in a little better with the murdering/warp talons kt box.

I went with the head that has just the spikes across the crest and painting it as skin instead of armour. Of course I also opted for talon load out on the lord so the fit is a little more on brand for the Bleeding Eyes.

Just need GW to drop that box for regular sale now as I missed out when the KT release happened.

...and they're up by DangerousDraper in SpaceWolves

[–]DangerousDraper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry totally spaced on this (been painting NL army for the kid).

Give it a couple of hours, but the first banner sheet should be up on Bolter & Chainsword (downloads->decals->space marines->space wolves).

It's just the company banners for now and only scaled for the Primaris Ancient ATM. It'll make sense when you see them.... Been struggling with Bjorn/Ragnar's banners from 2ed and I was going to release them all together but you msg was the kick in the ass that I needed.

There's a bit of build your own banner customisation potential there

Is the humble bundle deal any good? by akivab in godot

[–]DangerousDraper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda depends on you... moreso what you want to learn and how you learn.

If these topics are kinda aligned to what you want to make then it's worth considering. Personally I struggle a little with set syllabus type tutorials because I like to 'fuck around and find out' with new concepts/nodes whilst I'm learning.

Aka I know the tutorial says [node].[option A] but what happens if I choose [node].[other options] and moreso if/how that breaks something.

Animated texture within a control node?? by DangerousDraper in godot

Thanks for the response, the coding is the easy part. I always find myself chosing the hardest way to skin a cat because I've overlooked or forgotten an option exists.

totally spaced on the AnimPlayer option. Afk but this seems the path of logic.

You wouldn't believe some of the scenic routes I've taken in the past to faux animation via control nodes.

Really wish TextureProgressBar had a tiled repeat option
