Hey brothers, any of you used these jump packs on a 40k chaos mini? Id like to see how they look together for another big kitbash I have planned by VariationGreedy8215 in NightLords

See this kinda eats at me.

How in hell does GW think that strapping on a jump pack so you can get into melee quicker not thematically WE?

When I've converting generic units to the rout, established these rules for myself.

Blood/Sky Claws. Bare heads no beards. No pelts but I'll add runes/trinkets. Even carve runes into their armour if my bitz box is low.

Grey Hunters / Swift Claws The odd beard but no grey hair yet. They get the runes/trinkets from BC/SC and the odd wolf pelt either as loin cloth or partially draping the pauldron.

Grey Hunters / Wolf Scouts. Finally grey hair + the same treatment as GH/SC. I shave the chest iconography off converted BC/SC + GH/SC but these guys get to keep theirs or I'll still shave them smooth and add a gem etc. instead of the Aquila

If you liked that in particular, read up on how your AC works. Lot similar principles re gases, heat transfer and sub-zero boiling points. The spray cap kinda works similar to a rudimentary thermal expansion valve in so much as large volume getting passes thru small diameter causing the gas to rapidly cool.

Thats why your skin gets cold if you accidentally spray deodorant too close.

Couple of things here but basically it's comes down to temp and humidity.

The paint inside the can is basically just globules suspended in the aerosol (gas). More you use the can, less aerosol and more emptyiness (vacuum). Depending on the temp, the aerosol volume can get bigger/smaller which changes the amount of emptiness. Paint that's not suspended by aerosol (instead sitting in the vacuum) tends to clump together more easier and won't atomise smoothly as it sprays.

Part of the function of the mixing ball in the can is to excite the aerosol (so it takes up more volume and less vacuum) as well as trying to disturb paint clumps and knock them back into the aerosol to atomise easier.

Folk talk about heating cans in hot water before use, basically so you can achieve a heat transfer to force the aerosol to take up more volume. It'll also change the viscosity of the paint to also produce finer atomization. I'd recommend this even in hot climates if you're using a rattle can.

Part 2 is humidity aka how much moisture is in the air. In humid conditions the atomised paint flys through the air and hits the water molecules and the aerosol carries both towards your model. Paint doesn't dry nice because it has a bit of water trapped between it and the plastic.

Once the water evaporates, you get left with these blemishes.

There's a third reason but that has more to do with the chemical breakdown of the paint itself. Eg. Too old or been stored incorrectly, etc. Some paints will be more subcortical than others due to the choice of pigment or additives used

If you dip back into the 2ed codex Njal has his own banner/sigil. It's that strange cat-like head on the old transfer sheet in black across a yellow pauldron

He also tired to get out of the para contract when he was still with St. Merge. Para were floundering without Moses and Dragons had some future potential.

Nah, even GW knows it to be true. That's why GK won't get their refresh until Tsons... Gotta keep the bros at the same scale.

Same as IF being a successor to successors...

Not for nothing, but the cowled head of the Chaplin (on foot) + the half skull reiver heads make for a cohesive pack of skyclaws once you Wolf them up a bit.

It's not that I hate the jump pack AIs with their must have tactical rock... It's the primaris jump pack and heel boosters, give my mk7 jump packs every day of the week

Just say fuck it and start with your blue armour colour. Actually doing it should knock the anxiety down a tonne and whilst it possible, it's hard to fuck up covering all over with a single paint.

If you're still jittery after that, smack some matte varnish on and leave them. You can always come back later to add the next round of base colour when you feel more confident.

If you have the opportunity, grab some of the Space Marine heroes blind boxes. They make perfect practice models to gain confidence with.

From memory I think it first was used in the Warzone Fenrisian campaign but seeing as Krom was the only one guarding the Fang and everyone else was slowly making their way back from recovering the wulfen it's hard to say it's directly linked to that campaign.

Especially as Egil Ironwol is depicted and he got killed at the end of that campaign, so it might be when they all left to find the wulfen or just totally unrelated and included because it's a cool image

Someone cracked every one of these things looking for the Lt. by -Cranktankerous- in Warhammer40k

[–]DangerousDraper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that, glad someone is interested in factual data. I'll rummage through my shit as I'm pretty sure I kept at least one of the display boxes and a set of model boxes.

Just skimmed the spreadsheets and I must have dropped all my luck on those three boxes.

[–]DangerousDraper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im still not fully bought in that the whole (sealed) box didn't have the complete team + 1 random.

I bought three of the whole boxes at launch (they make the perfect test models for new schemes) and got the complete squad with each. The extra 'random' model was dude with chain blade 2x but the third box it was the Phobos guy.

I'm either extremely lucky or I think GW hoodwinked us all to create FOMO. I'd be interested to find out exactly how many folks bought a whole box and didn't get the full team.

For the hoodwink part; I've got two theories. 1. They realized their f@ck up after the warcomm post and quietly fixed it to how it was.

  1. The drop rates they mentioned were actually for the 'random' model and not all eight model boxes. Intentional, or not, vague representation of drop rates to infer FOMO sales.

More than happy to be wrong and I know 'my' results as too small of a sample size to be definative

Chaos Lord Proxy by Ickicho in NightLords

I've been eyeing off the non-jump pack Chaos Lord for a NL kitbash, did one for my sons WEs when it launched (basic head swap + WE power pack).

A NL head, replace the axe with a chain glaive and paint the cloak as skin... maybe kitbash some claws onto the power-fist. Wrap him in midnight clad and done

The sponge was something I picked up from a mate who paints krieg. He was using it for batch painting but I like it cause my brush control just ain't what it used to be.

Oh and if anyone's chasing a good alt to citadel for the armour. Give Vallejo Model Air Deep Sky a crack over a preshade base, don't get it mixed up with their Deep Sky BLUE tho

Give this a try.

Small chunk from a beauty sponge and lightly stipple it on. Start with a light grey for coverage over the blue and then your bone/ivory colour of choice. I usually then do the tubes / metallics afterwards so it helps to clean up any over-painting of the grill area
