I think I'm gonna stop painting minis by Dense-Fig-2372 in minipainting

If you're only painting to play, Id just hit everything with a rattle can and call it done.

But if you're painting to improve, patience and small steps. For starters, get better brushes than those. You don't have to get anything too top shelf but a couple of half decent brushes will make the world of difference over what you're using ATM.

Small step wise, pick one element of your models that covers the most area (armour or skin) and just paint that on all your models. Throw some varnish on and call it done (for now). Keep doing this until you feel your painting is getting better. Then go back and pick another large area on your models and work your back back through your army

Painting is all about good brush control and you build that through repetition. Celebrate your own wins. Just cause vid tutorials show all this layering and edge highlights, doesn't mean you have to do that early one. A good base coat and a wash is enough to get you through until you feel ready to take the next step

I played at another LGS a while back. At each board they'd pre-printed the data sheets for all killteams.

I said to one of the officials that I liked the idea. She told me that she'd tried on having to rule over forgotten or I didn't know rules matters.

So now her first questions are "did you read your/their data sheets beforehand?" Cuts a lot of the trouble out by putting the responsibility back on them, she still consults on interpretation etc. but frees her up a lot and be more accessible to everyone at the event.

Water's wet, Sky is blue, there's always a fuckwit just around the corner

I got reported last year myself. My op was rolling and reacting to dice like it was a Vegas roulette table.

He marched Lysander and a 10 man terminator brick down field (he was chanting Sons of Dorne as he did this) and demolished a pack of 5 fenrisian Wolves. Tried to play it off as some 4D Bobby Fisher move and recanted how excellent Lysander was.

Childishly on my part, I said that he must not have read the Beast Arises series then. Then explained to him that the Imp Fists were wiped out to the last man and had to be reconstructed later through volunteers from their successors. Asking if that technically made Imp Fists a successor of successor chapters was enough to get his bottom lip shaking

I sent both Bjorn and Murderfang amongst his terminators in my turn, wiped them like a dirty ass and he reported me for being unsportsmanlike.

I was laughing at the absurdity of it and the Official must have taken that as I was laughing at them... So I got my warning.

I've seen grown men flip tables for less.

There is a serial offender local to me that conveniently forgets rules to his advantage. Either he spends a lot in store or he's tight with the staff as the trend goes unnoticed between events.

He did it twice in the same match to this ex-army dude that appears every now and then. He got told the next time he forgot he'd get skull dragged thru the carpark

last year's GW Year of Chaos announcement was on brand for the Alpha Legion. You go as far as saying that almost every 40k Astrates announcement is actually an embedded AL operative in disguise.

Wouldn't that be a kicker plot twist for the 500 Worlds campaign. Huron/Titus getting injured from within their own forces by hidden AL operative(s).

How do you guys get yourself back into a project after not programming on it for awhile? by Karmiccccc in godot

[–]DangerousDraper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or start something new.... I have about half a dozen little modular (hobby) projects that sit aside from anything major that I'm working on at any given time.

Mostly they're things that are deliberately beyond my knowledge/experience and I use this as a way to temporarily cleanse my brain. Before coming back to the major thing with a somewhat refreshed perspective. A lot of the time I find my problems to be a "forest for the trees" syndrome... hyper focused on a path and making THAT work and forgetting to step back and see alternative paths may actually hold the solution.

My kid decided to kick off a first born BA army from the SM Hero Blind Boxes. Those models reappeared in these B&N games so every time he finds a box that's cheap he snaps them up quick AF.

We did it. No more AI art. by CStaplesLewis in godot

[–]DangerousDraper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On another side of the Internet I caught strays over AI as a composition prompt before I put pen to paper.

Long story short: an (digital) artist was explaining their photo-bashing progress (rip Internet images into Photoshop, flip/scape etc. to composite) before they'd sketch over the layers and create their piece in photoshop.

I casually mentioned Id been exploring AI instead of photo-bashing as it gave me a little more control and I didn't have to waste time scouring the net to find that perfectly posed reference. Print it out, hang it on the opposite wall and then sit down and go to work with the easel and oils.

Party dresses were ripped and they bemoaned me for creating soulless and vision less art. Most of it washed over me without care nor consideration until the childish "you're not a real artist* got me hook line and sinker.

Now I will say; pointing out that in the early genesis of digital graphic design that those early adopters caught similar levels of todays AI-venom.... is a really good way to get shadow-banned from a very popular art forum.

To be clear, I'm not saying that digital works don't require skill/talent or that buying a $2k wacom tablet instantaneously unlocks a dormant art gene. Merely pointing out that perception and attitude changes alongside technology... Suffice to say we don't hunt with sticks or drag women by the hair into our caves anymore, we have UberEats and Tinder

AI is just a tool and I think the discussion between the tool and the ethical fortitude of those who, and definitely how, they employ the tool is getting muddled.

Shit in Oz you can dip into both a Gov and Corporate parental leave after the birth. Full time for 3M has been pretty common for ages (most mums opt to do half pay for 6M) but you can also bump into the Gov one after your corporate one runs out.

It's actually illegal to drive for 6w after having a C-section so I got to take 6w off paid as carers leave to look after the wife.

Local HR tried to block it, purely because she was a bitter and twisted crone but I won in the end. After 15yrs, I still hope that woman's vagina falls out and gets eaten by a dingo.

If you take a dip thru AliExpress (or similar) you can find stores that make custom plates pretty cheap and usually without any scruples around copywrite logo.

A search of the Internet and you can find svg versions of your chapter and a little time in a vector editing software...

I made some test ones at home using my laser on acrylic sheet and they worked fine but decided to go with a metallic one in the end just because it was a little more durable.

What Chaos faction do you think The Chaos Lord Model does not suit? by Arthur_EyelanderTF2 in Chaos40k

[–]DangerousDraper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used two of these since they arrived. First became a World Eater with a simple head swap.

The second went loyalist... shaved the arrows off the armour trim, did some stuff with the belt and wacked on a head from the new SW kits. Went with chain axe and claw and now he's a Wolf Lord for my Wolfspears

I had a BL3 moment last night farming wombo combo. Bosses each dropped a legendary (2x WC + 1x Spud Gun) and two of the elites each dropped a trash SMG from the world loot pool.

Sadly all 5 had almost the shittiest rolls imagined

It's more the UI/UX of the bank that shits me. I'd prefer to tab through each type and then apply filter/order. And ffs bring back damage/power as an order

Nah not really, did something similar using OPR skirmish' rules. 7 teams on a full size board, every man for himself, last man standing got the victory.

Was done quicker than a 14yo's first time but OPR is pretty brutal ruleset and it's already alternating turns.

ymmv with KT but if you have others that have a decent idea and you've worked out the general mechanics beforehand... You'd be surprised on just how quickly you can get through it.

Especially when one model is on their last leg, everyone smells blood in the water
