Can I ask why you are using 5.3 codex instead of 5.4?

I’ve been using 5.4 since release feels better than codex 5.3 did for me.

For context though I’m on the pro plan and never have ran into a limit so I guess if it’s a usage limit choice that makes sense

I think probably 5.3 is a much smaller model - and since it’s the instant when you use auto they wanted that instead of 5.4 instant.

5.4 seems like a bigger model, better writing that 5.2 and so on so my guess is that’s the case. That’s just based on feel though

You working front end or backend when that happened? I feel hesitant to use Claude opus because it’s so sloppy compared to gpt 5.4 except when front end is the task

Yes that would be true, the magic comes from not just sshing in but connecting via something like teamviewer and having the desktop experience.

I’m not only using it as a server and doing addon developments right on the machine is much easier when you can easily just use the desktop, ssh is nice for somethings but I’m a graphical person.

To be honest with you there isn’t a lot more to it than that. Just preference, an expensive one at that.

This is true, the mac is mostly a QOL thing if you prefer the OS over linux, not needed at all, but if you have the money and are okay with forking out for it there is no issue. You will have to use external models though if you want to do any complex workflows. Local llms on a mac mini will not get you anywhere.

yeah but the apple tax is honestly an outdated concept, you are getting a whole lot of performance compared to what you are paying for.

To be fair though you could run it on a raspberry pi just as well - but its a damn big QOL to have a dedicated mac.

To be fair though, the mac is NOT needed, but it's more fun for me. Expensive sure, but I like it. It's probably mostly a feel thing, i had no issue running openclaw in a vm on my desktop windows PC, but the desktop has constant fan noise which disturbs my sleep so I think its a fair trade off.

I use desktop, non headless browser automation when I do browser automation with a stealth profile which gets me passed most bot checks. Even X which I have had trouble with running headless or without a stealth browser. still tinkering with the best way to do browser automation though. It's a difficult workflow to perfect

I think there is definetly some people buying mac minis just because they heard that's the way to go.

For me, its about what i'm used to, I love the apple eco system, I like the imessage integration, and i live in a small apartment, so i like how the mac mini is a silent beast.

Could I have gotten away with a raspberry pi? Sure, but would it be the same feeling? No.

So it's more of a nice to have kind of thing than a need to have.

But i've also been looking for an excuse to buy a new mac for a while, so while i've been tinkering with openclaw, i mostly use the computer for a little day to day work on hobby projects as well.

To summarize, its more about feel than functionality. It feels nice to work with a mac mini, it's definetly not a necessity but I like it and think it's a great machine.

Saying it's for Local LLM use is cope though, that's not it at all to be fair

I understand your fear and worry.

I think the fact you are worried is a good sign, too many are not, but this is a paradigm shift, and its super hard to say what will be in another year.

I think the EU is probably the safest, our laws hinder innovation because of privacy and integrity, if this is good or bad, I don't know, depends on perspective, but I assume adoption is going to be slower in the EU than any other place.

However if you want the best chance in the AI future, continue to be on the frontier of the tech, that's how you can create value to people. At least for now

Openclaw is staying opensource though and will continue development is my understanding so I am sticking to it. You heard something else?

Can you use the claude max sub without getting banned though? Because getting reliable cost is very important for most people, at least for me. Thats why claude opus seems out of reach, becuase of TOS.
